installed opensuse 11.3 on a Dell laptop.NetworkManager and Ndiswrapper, allready instaled(last updated versions), but suse can not detect or see any wireless lans.
Can anybody help?
I have a Toshiba Satellite L550 laptop with Suse 11.3 dual booting with Windows 7. Windows can detect the built in wireless card but not Suse, what can I do to get the wireless recognized in Suse.

Where I can share files and the printer connected to my desktop. But I want to be able to use Suse in the same way, full time and to stray away from Vista. My wife and kids like easy. So I'm trying to transform them and show them something new.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running OpenSuse 11.4 with kernel (2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop i686) and KDE 4.6.00 "release 6".When I first installed the system the KNetworkManager found my wireless network. After entering my details it suddenly couldn't find it any more and hasn't found it since (even after re-install). My network is definitely working. I did try and set it up with ifup but it still couldn't find any network. Unfortunately I don't know anything about networks even less about wireless ones. Many thanks in advance.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got a Suse 11.2 laptop with a bluetooth Wifi device (recognised and working), and an Android 2.1 smartphone (Motorola Milestone). I would like to connect the two via Wifi. I don't have a Wifi router, I've just used it now and again through hotspots. I normally connect to the internet via a mobile broadband USB dongle.So, I suppose I need to configure my laptop as a Wifi router in order to set up our little private LAN between the two devices. Is that right? If yes, can someone please point me to a relevant howto because I've searched high and low and didn't find anything. :-(If the above is not right, then where should I look, please? I was wondering if anyone knows a way to get the wireless to work over the VMware and in SUSE. I know this may not particularly be a SUSE question but all I saw in the VMware forums was one response that said it was not possible.

I am really a noob using Suse or any linux configuration. I have to work in a computer that uses Suse 10.3 from another computer that uses Windows.What I am looking for is for some programe that works most similarly to windows remote desktop or logmein. But with 11.3, it's able to scan for my wireless network, and I see RX/TX packets moving, but DHCP isn't able to get an address. I've tried the 2010_0115_RT3562_RT3062_Linux_STA_V2.3.0.0 and 010_07_16_RT3062_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0 drivers from the Rosewill site, and the rt3562sta-kmp-desktop-2.4.0.0_k2.6.34.0_12-1.1.i586.rpm package from Suse, all with the same result. I've even tried forcing an IP address on the interface with 'ifconfig', so my current guess is that the WPA-PSK security isn't working.

asus K60IJ intel 4400 dual-core 4gb ram trying to setup suse 11.2 64bit as dual boot. works fine with win7 in dual boot and system boots great. been following forums to setup wireless. after doing all term commands, it see's both built in wireless (atheros ar9285) on the pci-e and the usb verizon broadband modem as (curitel brand modem). after checking kernal dmesg, it see's devices but looking at usr/sbin/iwconfig, it see's no eth0. checked at the asus website and see nothing on getting any kind of ethernet drivers.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIn openSuse I can connect to a wireless network. It says that it is connected, and I can open the router page (http://192.168.1.1/basic.html). But I cannot load any other pages. Nothing else recognizes internet either; I tried using konqueror, YAST and wget with the command line, and none of them could load anything. It is not a router problem or a wireless card problem because both Ubuntu and Kubuntu can connect, from the same computer. I know this is odd because in the only other thread I could find with this issue, it was a different distro and installing openSuse seemed to fix it.

I bought the wireless PCI network card WMP600N from Linksys. I tried to connect with my router, but no success. The correct driver is installed(RT2800), the necessary package WPA_supplement is also installed. My providers settings are WPA-PSK with a shared key. Key encryption is TKIP. I can't choose TKIP in the Yast network menu. so i chose passphrase.
the weird thing is that the wifimanager says WEP is on but it's not, at least not in my router and i did not setup WEP to. see picture 6. i had to use manual boot "ifup wlan0" because when i use boot at startup the whole systeem freezes. anyway, when i use ifup wlan0 as root in the konsole, the system also freezes. i have explained it clearly, please take a look a the pictures.

I went through the installer and everything looks great so far except I can't for the life of me seem to be able to get the wireless working. I tried everything a windows newb like me could think of ... it looks like to me the wireless card is not being used since it can't detect anything? It has an Atheros AR5001 wireless network adaptor.I'm getting very bad latency and throughput on with this card. In comparison my Thinkpad with Intel card achieves at least 10 times the throughput from the same location. Also when I boot my wifi will come up authenticate and then a few seconds later disconnect and reconnect. I've tried updating the kernel to 2.6.35 as one of the fixes was to improve the performance of the ath5k driver. I'm using wpa2 authentication.

Is there anything else I paste that will help determine the cause of the bad throughput. Browsing the web or copying files across the network is bordering unusable.
I have an Atheros AR5007 802.11 b/g WiFi Adapter. I use OpenSuse 11.3, KDE desktop.When I did iwconfig, it displayed the following:

I had the Wireless Broadband working. It stopped working after I closed the laptop (suspend). Also the wifi will not connect until reboot. Now the entry for the Wireless Broadband is gone, and the tab for it is greyed out as well.I would be happy to submit this as a bug and assist with the debugging process.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got ubuntu working fine on my netbook and wanted to play around with opensuse. I have it installed and everything works fine except my wireless connection. I have updated everything since the installation through a wired connection, that didn't help. I have read the stickies, but to be honest, I'm so new to this stuff I'm kinda lost. So my wireless network has a WEP encryption and I have entered that password as a 64 HEX Key in the Wireless Manager widget. It connects to the network and says is labeled as active, however there is still the yellow exclamation shield next to the connection. Firefox and other apps don't have access to the internet.

- WPA2 Personal

i'm running 11.3 kde 4.4, with a Broadcom 4318. since installing 11.3 a few days ago, whenever i'm connected via wireless, one of two things always happen: when trying to play video (hulu, ....., etc.) in firefox, within a minute or so i will get the BSOD--that is, my screen will go black, and my cap/num lock lights will flash on and off. also, when regularly browsing the internet...not long after opening firefox, it will stop working like i have no connection, and then i will get a frozen screen and system within a minute or two after seeing a variation of this communication message:

strangely, i have no problems running streaming audio through smplayer. and i have no problems playing saved video files through smplayer. and i have absolutely no problems whatsoever browsing or playing online video while connected via ethernet.
