I have a Toshiba Satellite L550 laptop with Suse 11.3 dual booting with Windows 7. Windows can detect the built in wireless card but not Suse, what can I do to get the wireless recognized in Suse.

However the wireless isn't working. NetworkManager doesnt even detect a wireless card. I followed the instructions here and installed the b43-fwcutter and then issued the modprobe b43 and modprobe b43legacy commands. Then I issued the iwconfig command and this was the output.

Also, I've been doing some research and found out about some file located /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. So I looked in mine and found out that only my eth0 is added.

Where I can share files and the printer connected to my desktop. But I want to be able to use Suse in the same way, full time and to stray away from Vista. My wife and kids like easy. So I'm trying to transform them and show them something new.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running OpenSuse 11.4 with kernel (2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop i686) and KDE 4.6.00 "release 6".When I first installed the system the KNetworkManager found my wireless network. After entering my details it suddenly couldn't find it any more and hasn't found it since (even after re-install). My network is definitely working. I did try and set it up with ifup but it still couldn't find any network. Unfortunately I don't know anything about networks even less about wireless ones. Many thanks in advance.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubuntu x64 on my dell studio 1535 using the windows installer (wubi).
All seems to be working fine apart from the built in wireless card, the proprietary driver (found in hardware drivers) installs and activates successfully and works perfectly. Until I shut down or restart the system. On the next boot the wireless card is 'disabled' and no longer works.
The card I have is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g
I am going to try a proper install on a second partition rather than using wubi later on but wondered if this was a commonly occuring problem?
The wireless card works as soon as the driver installs, however I am shown a "restart to activate driver" message and after restarting it's dead.
I recently purchased an MSI A5000 notebook, but regrettably it happens to use an obscure branded wireless card that's given me quite a bit of frustration to get working. I do have a bit of history behind this card that might help to solve this problem. First of all the card is a Ralink rt3090STA, and the manufacturer does provide a linux driver for this card (available here)
I was using Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit until last week, when I decided that I would like to try using a 64 bit system. I would prefer to use fedora instead of Ubuntu for the time being. Ubuntu had some major problems recognizing the card for some time before I was able to get it to work. It isn't even detecting the wireless card, and the network manager will only let me connect to wired networks (I'm connected to my router via ethernet cable right now).
I've pressed the LED killswitch but it does nothing (doesn't change from orange to blue nor does it have any noticeable effect on the network manager or the reports of the above 2 commands).
I am running Ubuntu 9.1 on my Gateway M305CRV and love it . . HOWEVER:Less I am plugged directly into the internet with Ethernet cable . . I have not internet. My laptop is supposed to have a 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless network card, but I can't find it. I've run lspci -nn without seeing anything containing. 802.11 in the output. Moreover, when I look into hardinfo->network->interfaces I only find the wired connection. Could anyone please tell me if these programs find all devices or if there could still be a wireless card here?

I have Backtrack4r2, and it did not detect my wireless card which is Intelpro 2200. I installed Windows wireless driver, after i installed the regular driver using wine, but it did not work.

I have a Acer Revo R3610 nettop on which I installed oS11.3. It has an Atheros AR5001 wireless network adaptor.I'm getting very bad latency and throughput on with this card. In comparison my Thinkpad with Intel card achieves at least 10 times the throughput from the same location. Also when I boot my wifi will come up authenticate and then a few seconds later disconnect and reconnect. I've tried updating the kernel to 2.6.35 as one of the fixes was to improve the performance of the ath5k driver. I'm using wpa2 authentication.

I have searched and have not found anything specific to my issue. I am currently using NDISWrapper to load the bcmwl15 driver and when it's active it works beautifully.Problem is sometimes at boot, the card doesn't "turn on" and I don't know how else to describe it. The OS does not even detect that the hardware is present. I have disabled wireless hotkey in BIOS. The only way to make the wireless card "active" is to reboot with the wiredconnection to the router. After doing that the wireless card "wakes up" and works awesome.Is there anything I can do to make sure the driver load at boot?mes I get the error that NDISWrapper is not modprobbed when I go to network configuration and if I wish to do i now? I am sure I have a driver installed because the configuration screen shows my network. I have read and taken to heart the advice given for receiving help and if any more is needed I will gladly give it. I have a small amount of experience with SuSE Enterprise edition so I can understand some technical stuff but I am best at following specific instructions.
I clicked "Network Settings", and I found that the ip address was wrong, which is "192.168.1.10/24", and netmask field is empty, so I modifed the configuration file located in /etc/sysconfig/network, named ifcfg-wlan0, added one line(NETMASK= '255.255.255.0'), saved it and reboot the system. After rebooting the system, I still found the ip address is wrong and netmask field is empty, so I have to use ifup command to activate my card manually every time the system starts.

I am running SLED 11 and My Networkcard is Intel PRO/Wireless 5300. In short, it is not there anymore! I mean I was connected and everything and the next time I restarted It could not detect any wireless network. I deleted the wireless network card in hopes that the OS will automatically detect it on startup and set it right but NOPE. When I check the hardware information in YAST, it is listed there and it is also working under Windows.

Ive finally got the wireless PCI card running using Ifdown then Ifup from a console, ( using ndiswrapper) I need this to happen while booting up so the wireless is automatically started so I can do away with this routine everytime. The PC is for a friend who is not too savvy on PC's. what script I'd need to run to get this to work? I know that if there was ever any change to kernel it would have to be reset.
