I installed OpenSUSE11.4 yesterday.The dual boot option works.The wireless works in win 7 but I cannot get it enabled in SUSE.Is there a reason why the keyboard keys will not work to enable the wireless.I have an acer laptop.
View 3 RepliesI installed 9.04 clean yesterday to try and once again move from Windows to Linux and I thought I would give it a real try this time to learn the new OS. Well, right off the bat my wireless connection does not work. By default my WPA/WPK security was set on my router. My wireless adapter does connect to the router but there is no internet access. If I remove the WPA/WPK security and leave it open I can connect and I do have internet access but as soon as I re-enable WPA/WPK security I lose internet access. I even tried WEP security and same result. What the heck is going on with this? I am not going to leave my router unsecured but that seems to be the only way this works. I also upgraded this morning to 9.10 and same problem so this is not limited to 9.04.

Where I can share files and the printer connected to my desktop. But I want to be able to use Suse in the same way, full time and to stray away from Vista. My wife and kids like easy. So I'm trying to transform them and show them something new.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running OpenSuse 11.4 with kernel (2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop i686) and KDE 4.6.00 "release 6".When I first installed the system the KNetworkManager found my wireless network. After entering my details it suddenly couldn't find it any more and hasn't found it since (even after re-install). My network is definitely working. I did try and set it up with ifup but it still couldn't find any network. Unfortunately I don't know anything about networks even less about wireless ones. Many thanks in advance.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOn my Acer netbook (AOA-150-1635) the wireless works fine with WinXP, Ubuntu, and used to work with Suse 11.1. I replaced the Suse 11.1 with a clean network install of Suse 11.2. I couldn't get the wireless to work and did another network install using the wireless. When the install was completed I could not get the wireless to work with Suse 11.2. When I run the "collectNWData.sh" it shows--

I looked up error CD0120E and changed the network devices setup to "traditional". The wireless "scan" picked up the routers and I added the encryption keys. Still no joy. I ran "collectNWData.sh" again and it said it is better to use the Network Manager.

Going back to Yast, Network Devices, I set Network Manager. The result is that it is back to the beginning with "collectNWData.sh" giving the original error.
I am unable to connect to a WEP-protected network. the Network manager log shows either a DHCP timeout, or a failure to associate. (attached below).Changing to WPA is not an option, as the network is not controlled by me. This is with the rt61pci driver for a Ralink 2500 series chipset.(Rosewill RNX-G300EX card)Manually forcing an IP does not result in a connection either. This is with the latest OpenSuSE 11.4, all patches applied. Router is a D-Link DIR-613, and I know the passphrase I'm using is correct because it connects both on my Android (what else?) phone, and my lappy when I boot XP.

I just installed SUSE in a VMware to test it out. A problem i've had with VMware before was getting the wireless to work. I was wondering if anyone knows a way to get the wireless to work over the VMware and in SUSE. I know this may not particularly be a SUSE question but all I saw in the VMware forums was one response that said it was not possible.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn openSuse I can connect to a wireless network. It says that it is connected, and I can open the router page (http://192.168.1.1/basic.html). But I cannot load any other pages. Nothing else recognizes internet either; I tried using konqueror, YAST and wget with the command line, and none of them could load anything. It is not a router problem or a wireless card problem because both Ubuntu and Kubuntu can connect, from the same computer. I know this is odd because in the only other thread I could find with this issue, it was a different distro and installing openSuse seemed to fix it.

I bought the wireless PCI network card WMP600N from Linksys. I tried to connect with my router, but no success. The correct driver is installed(RT2800), the necessary package WPA_supplement is also installed. My providers settings are WPA-PSK with a shared key. Key encryption is TKIP. I can't choose TKIP in the Yast network menu. so i chose passphrase.
the weird thing is that the wifimanager says WEP is on but it's not, at least not in my router and i did not setup WEP to. see picture 6. i had to use manual boot "ifup wlan0" because when i use boot at startup the whole systeem freezes. anyway, when i use ifup wlan0 as root in the konsole, the system also freezes. i have explained it clearly, please take a look a the pictures.

just installed ubuntu 11.04 on my old laptop (Dell latitude XT), to experience this OS. But for some reason I cannot get online, both wired and wireless network are 'grey', and i cannot enable them. Even when I try to go online with a USB wifi dongle,I also cannot enable wireless. Enabling Networking is selected.
I include the information I collect and hope this will allow you to give me a diagnose on how to make my wireless work.

I was setting up a new 11.4 system and disabled ip6 as we don't use it. After that I couldn't get X11 forwarding working. After searching around for a while, I found this topic [URL] ssh-x11-forwarding.html which at the end mentions enabling ip6. Magically, after doing that and rebooting I can now do X11 forwarding again. Just seems strange that IP6 is needed for X11 forwarding.

I think maybe the driver is not loading, but I am a pretty much still a noob, so my opinion isn't worth much. If it is the driver not loading, I don't know what to do to fix it. When I tried to log in this morning I couldn't until I enabled Java scripts in my Opera browser. This must be something "new and improved". Could someone confirm this? I would prefer "old and lousy" rather than open up my computer to the world at large.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy school has (once again) chosen to change their wireless network. This means it has gotten a lot slower, and that only our hotspot works. Our hotspot however is secured so that im unable to enter facebook, and a lot of other websites, etc. So what i did in windows was installing a program called hotspot shield, which redirects you ip through a server, so the LAN Admin basically have no control of what you're doing if he haven't got more skill than the one we have. I think what Hotspot shield does is making a vpn connection (correct me if im wrong) and i would certainly like to do that i ubuntu as well.

I have a wireless network at home. My home laptop connects without any issue.I have a wireless network at work. My work laptop connects without any issue.If I take my work laptop home, it can see the network but cannot connect to it. I've checked the passphrase and that's fine, I've deleted the network from the Network Manager profile and re-created it - no luck.
The only thing I can think of is that I had to change the wireless router network channel at one point. I think that the work PC could access the network before that (but it was a while ago). I've tried changing the channel back, but to no avail. I have to keep the channel at its new setting anyway to avoid a loss of signal.What sort of things should I be checking/changing to get home connectivity on my work PC? The wired network is fine, but my wife draws the line at me looming over her desk with a red cable plugged into the back of my laptop.

I was reading the online manual and in the personal file preferences, it shows an option to enable 'share public files over network'. The problem is I don't see that option when I open up file preferences. All I see is an option to allow sharing using bluetooth, nothing about sharing over the network. When I look in the network I can see the computer running suse, but when I try to connect to it, it says 'unable to mount drive: connection refused by server.'

I have install it suse 11, and everything went well until the wireless thing is not working, my card is Broadcom BCM4318, I see my card on the network settings but I cannot configure the card, and also I cannot connect to a wireless network, can someone tell me what to do here, I am loosing my patient....
installed opensuse 11.3 on a Dell laptop.NetworkManager and Ndiswrapper, allready instaled(last updated versions), but suse can not detect or see any wireless lans.

New SUSE 11.3 install connects to network/internet etc OK with DHCP-assigned IP address. When I switch to static IP, I can no longer ping internal network, or anything else. This works OK with SUSE 11.2 on same hardware and (as far as I can see) same setup. Some diagnostics are shown below.
Firewall
Disabling the firewall makes no difference.
Not using a network manager (can't see how to assign fixed address if I do - all greyed out).
