I installed fuppes from Index of /repositories/home:/bastianfriedrich/openSUSE_11.3
fuppes is a DLNA server and it is listed in the documentation of my Philips TV. I read the wiki on Main Page - FUPPES and as far as I understood followed the manual. However on the server I see the database filled with files, I see the TV listed amoung the devices, however the TV does not connect to the server.
Have got Skype running in 64bit SUSE 11.2 but whenever my Philips SPC 900NC Webcam starts Skype crashes. Do I need a driver for the webcam or is it something else causing the problem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI know the basics and have read the Ubuntu Pocket Guide several times and reference it a lot still. I went to the trouble of installing Fuppes onto my system (Ubuntu Server 9.1) and after configuring it and playing around with it I did not get the results I wanted. I soon after found PS3 Media Server which did almost everything I wanted to instantly with no configuration.
But what to do with the fuppes install? I did the following

I've been through the forums, and can't seem to find the answers. Thanks to EVERYONE who has posted fuppes related advice though, you've filled my last 3 days with so much fun! I'm a complete newbie with linux. I had a half hearted fiddle about 6 years ago, but nothing since. But I've decided I want rid of the horror that is Windows, and stumbled upon Ubuntu. Installled it last week. First priority, videos and music to the XBox (can't lose Microsoft!). I'm using Ubuntu 9.10.
So, after much, much, much reinstalling and playing with config files, I now have Fuppes streaming to my XBox. I can stream both audio and video, and I'm even happy with the folder structure in the Video section too! (Eventually! ).
1) When rebuilding the database, I get:

The line before is repeated lots and lots of times before it gives up. However, it still seems to have created the database, because all I then have to do is start Fuppes up and rebuild the folder structure and it works.
2) I spent ages trawling through the forums to get this far, and I did get music sorted by artist, album, etc. However, when sorted by album, each album shows lots of times. Is there a way to stop this? I only want each album to show once. Seems to mainly affect compilation albums with multiple artists.
For anyone who hasn't got as far as me, persist! You'll get there eventually. I'll attach my fuppes.cfg and vfolder.cfg. I am using version 0.660, and used a mixture of advice from all the tutorials to get here. Use this guide:[URL] but later on in that guide in someone's reply, there's a link to the new version.
I also had to install some additional packages (this was guess work...using Synaptic Package Manager), to ensure that during the ./configure, the Taglib and mpeg4ip/mp4v2 are both enabled, otherwise you have no hope of your XBox sorting your music. if you edit your config files in the fuppes directory, open a terminal and run the following to put them in the place fuppes actually looks for them!:

it reminds me a lot of my good old days on the Unix mainframes...... I have a little problem everything works great except for my Philips GearGo MP3, when I plug it in it is not recognized on the system, my camera works, mys USB hard drive and Palm all work ok.

I found the PWC driver but the PWCX drivers.. can't find them anywhere they used to be available for download on the webcam nemosoft.. but it seems like they are no longer there anyone have this old driver laying around? File name should be something like pwcx-8.4.tar.gz.I googled it but little luck so far..

I've been trying to install the Fuppes media server onto CentOS and have had a few difficulties. I had to do a build from the source (svn build 578), then configure, make and make install. So far so good.Once I try to run fuppes, I get the error:[ERROR] Failed to bind socket to : 8.15.7.107:0.The documentation I've searched so far suggests that there is a config file that needs to be set with the appropriate ip address, but the file doesn't exist as the program hasn't started up yet!

Also not supporting some other things correctly, I suspect.I say so having tested multiple web camera software and either they don't work (because they have no setting for low res) or they do work if settable to low res., but not for any higher res.I also have a working setpwc tool which shows the driver does not support framerate resetting.I have a Toucam and Toucam Pro - same for both.Also these units worked fine under Fedora 11, and under earlier versions even Red Hat 4.But I usually got the latest pwc from Saillaird.org and compiled it to get full support but there are no more current sources there anymore, and the older ones don't compile.But as I am saying under F11 it was fully correct, now under F13 and 14 it is broken.
View 14 Replies View RelatedJust bought this monitor and it doesnt have widescreen support like my old Dell one but the crystal display in it is leaking across the screen. Maybe its just too new or something. I have little experience in configuring Xorg.conf although I'm pretty adept in other areas of Linux. Running ubuntu 11.04 gnome not unity or gnome-shell. The resolution is 1920x1080 (16:9), 60 Hz. with the default recommended nvidia driver. Maybe ran into the same situation or knows how to configure X.

It will work under a generic driver on programs such as Skype, but as soon as I try to use it for web cam sites such as BlogTV, it will say "Webcam required on this site."I have seen similar posts on this and other websites, pointing towards SPCA, but everything I have tried has not worked.When trying SPCA, I tried to do install on the terminal and all that would happen is terminal would respond with: "0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded."Is there an easier method I am missing here, or is there something am I doing wrong?

I recently bought a NAS, and when I run rsync or try and copy a large file (eg 6 gigs) to the NAS, the connection will eventually fail.

- The problem has only been around since I got the NAS, and only happens when copying files TO the NAS. Downloading/uploading to internet doesn't cause the same problem.
- This problem happens on two machines both with the same wifi dongle.
- This problem doesn't happen on a laptop running the Intel iwl3945 driver, nor with machines connected via cables, so it is not the NAS which is at fault.
How to get a stable connection when backing up?
I am new here and I have tried checking similar threads as well as other sources in the net but could not get my card working. I use Debian squeeze on a P4 2.4MHz machine with 2 GB ram. lspci can detect all 8 chips but could not load the proper module since it could not identify the vendor. I have tried unloading the SAA7134 module and reloading repeatedly all possible cards from 1 to 174 by "modprobe -i SAA7134 card=#,#,#,#,#,#,#,# #-numbers 1 to 174 one a a time.

Can anyone suggest a good free Virtualization Software Package that work on OpenSuse with the KDE Desktop, as I need to use Windows for some applications that have not got a Linux equivelant, Namely Reserch In Motions BlackBerry Desktop Manager and the drivers for my Printer and Scanner, so I would also need something with USB pass through. Or if there isn't any free virtualization software that will dowat I want that's free then something that is not expensive that's paid for. I like the look of Parallels Desktop 4 for Windows & Linux but I'm not sure if I would be able to justify paying �54.99 for the ammount of use that it will get?

I recently installed opensuse 11.4 on a remote server. It has GNOME installed as a desktop. The problem I am experiencing is that when logged in through VNC, most of the GUI apps are not functioning, especially ones that require root privs. Example: The Add/Create users context does not function. After you supply root pw, nothing happens. If you launch it from a terminal, you see this:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having some problems getting the onboard sound card on my Intel DP45SG motherboard to work properly under openSuse 11.1. Yast appears to have detected the card as a 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller, but I cannot get any sound out of the card at all.
I have tried to follow this thread, and have run the alsa-info script, the results of which are posted here. It appears to me that the codec that is listed in the alsa script, which is the IDT 92HD73E1X5, is not the same as that which is listed on Intel's site for this board, which is the IDT 92HD73E codec. I'm experiencing random lockups. There are 2 types.1st time this happened when I enabled Kwin compositing effects. The screen turned black and it froze, the mouse pointer froze. Nothing would move. 5 Minutes later I just hard reset the Laptop. I was afraid something could be corrupted as it was shutdown in a bad way. On boot up Kwin's compositing effects were in place.Randomly working on the laptop, everything will freeze except the mouse pointer. This happens like once in a while though.I have a feeling this has something to do with my Dell Studio 1555 Intel GM4500 MHD graphics.

I want to dual boot openSUSE 11.2 and Windows 7. I already have Windows 7 installed but I have encountered multiple issues in the past with trying to make dual boots. Usually when I install Linux, GRUB decides it wants to go into world domination mode, and "breaks" my Windows installation. I have reason to believe this is because the distros I use come with legacy GRUB, (v0.97) and for some odd reason it lacks commands such as "update-grub" etc. This means I cannot add Windows 7 to the boot menu without going into extreme complications, which have NEVER, I repeat NEVER succeeded. When I boot the Windows drive directly, I get some error about GRUB not finding the device, and it puts me into a grub rescue command line. Now I am no expert in this field at all, but wouldn't that mean that GRUB wrote itself to the MBR of...oh I don't know, ALL of my hard drives? I really want to install openSUSE 11.2, but from bad experience I am really put off as I know that it ships with legacy GRUB v0.97.I am also running Fedora 13 at the moment, I have quite an experimental dual boot running..been trying to get GRUB 2 for hours now, it is definitely there but no commands work, "upgrade-grub-from-legacy" and "update-grub" return with command not found. I've heard this is just a bug but can anybody confirm that there will definitely be a way for me to "fix" my windows installation after it gets "broken" by GRUB?Second idea, unplug my windows hard drive while openSUSE installs?
