OpenSUSE Install :: Mirroring Repositories With Rsync: Module Opensuse-full Is Broken?

Dec 1, 2010

The rsync module "opensuse-full" which worked well so far seems currently broken. It tries to mirror a huge number of additional stuff (factory?) but fails with "permission denied". Any place where I could report this?Command:

Code:
rsync -rlpt -hi -stats rsync.opensuse.org::opensuse-full /drive/repo

CentOS 5 :: Mirroring With Rsync - Error "unknown Module"

Jun 6, 2011

Using mrepo, i'm trying to pull down centos 5.6 updates from a mirror (say, mirrors.kernel.org or mirrors.usc.edu). i want to use rsync to do this so i can try to exclude packages i don't need on my servers (e.g. firefox, openoffice). when i try this, i get the error "@ERROR: Unknown module '5.6'".

The following rsync command is what mrepo uses when i run "mrepo -ugvvvv":

When i run that, i get the unknown module error.

But what i don't understand about that error is, sniffing out the rsync server's modules on the commandline shows me that module (and path?) should work. like so:

Anyone know what i'm doing wrong when trying to pull this mirror down via mrepo? (or even that long rsync command)

Software :: CentOS 5 - Mirroring System Using Rsync

Mar 30, 2011

I believe it was rsync was the tool. I have a box running CentOS 5. It has a 250GB HD in it. I have another drive with the exact model. Currently it has a as a said a 250GB IDE drive. I want to shutdown the machine, install this other hard drive and set up a cron job that will backup my main drive at times that I set. This way if the main drive fails, I do not loose all the data and have to rebuild the server from scratch as I have been custom configuring it for years. I can't remember if there was an issue with the main drive being mounted to back it up or not. I have looked at some of the how's on rsync but they seem to only talk about using another server for this. If I shit down the box, install the new drive, and the box boots back up, is it going to ask about that drive or what do I need to do to get rsync going and does it partition the drive as such? And can I do it this way. This way if the main drive fails, I can just swap the drive and be on my marry way.

OpenSUSE Install :: All Repositories Are Labeled "11.3" Repositories

May 22, 2011

I recently installed 11.4 32bit on my computer at my summer home. I carry a DVD with all my /home data. Then today I noticed that all my repositories are labeled "11.3" repositories. Everything works. Here is the output from "zypper lr -d"...

What is the correct method of moving to the 11.4 repositories?

Server :: Rsync Execution - With Crontab - Have Given Full Path To Rsync Too

Apr 12, 2011

I have a tiny shell script to rsync files between two servers and remove the source files.

This script works fine, when it has been initiated manually or even when the rsync command is executed on the command line.

But the same script doesn't work, when I try to automate it through crontab.

I am using 'abc' user to execute this rsync, instead of root, as root login to servers are restricted in all of our servers, by us.

As I mentioned earlier, manual execution works like charm!

When this rsync.sh is initiated through crontab, it runs the first command(chown abc.abc ...) perfectly without any issues. But the second line is not at all executed, and there is no log entry i can find at /mnt/xyz/folder/rsync.log.

OpenSUSE :: WARNING - Unable To Download List Of Repositories Or No Repositories Defined

Feb 9, 2011

I am running Suse 11.1 64bit, with KDE, recently I received a pop up on my screen, "something about update problems", I used Yast 2 and selected online Update and it couldn't find updates for Nvidia and froze at that point. I dis-enabled that repository and refreshed all of the remaining Repositories individually and it seemed to work. I then went to the repositories listing and selected "Add" and selected "community" repositories and received the following: WARNING Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined. What is my problem? How do I acquire the list of community repositories? I can live with out the Nvidia repository for now but would eventually like to get it back.

OpenSUSE Install :: How To Configure Repositories For 11.4

Mar 13, 2011

In this blog post I explain how to use "Install/Remove Software" to configure your repositories, which repositories you'll want to add, how to configure their priority, and updating your system with the correct versions.
Musing Allowed: OpenSUSE 11.4: Repositories

I may eventually transfer some of this to the opensuse website, but I never expected it to take several days just to write this one blog post so it probably won't be soon. Still, I hope that it's helpful to opensuse 11.4 users and I wrote the post so that it was targeted to regular users primarily but also for those looking to see how the repositories have changed with the update to 11.4.

OpenSUSE Install :: Failed To Load Module "fglrx" (module Does Not Exist, 0)

May 8, 2011

I've installed openSuse 11.4 server-mode (text only) on my desktop, and I'm trying to configure IceWM so i'll eventually have it set up so it always boots into text only mode, but I could be able to quickly start icewm via the command line.using Yast, I installed the Xorg server, and icewm.when I type X, the screen goes black and it just doesn't seem to do anythingI found if I hit ctrl+alt+f1 it kinda puts me back into text only mode, but I can't put in commands anymore. The last thing it says on the screen is:

Failed to load module "fglrx" (module does not exist, 0)

I've goggled that error message and the discussions that popped up around it made no sense to me at all. I've never configured X from scratch before, can someone point me towards a tutorial or something?

OpenSUSE Install :: Put Each And Every Repositories Into A Bunch Of .tarbz2?

Aug 4, 2011

I have contacted Novell by telephone and they can' support the OpenSUSE OS.I'm downloading via a library (window's XP) computer and it does not download every thing I tell it to; so I have to often go back and some times I am sure I don't go back because I don't notice or can't figure out that I'm missing something. Also when I try to download any part of the repositories I have to (to bring it home and install it on my computer openSUSE 11.4 KDE,) sit there and click right, click open in new tab, go to the next one repeat.... and then once you reach the bottom of the screen you minimize the web page, and then click save, then tell it where to save, then go to the next one.......

1: put each and every repositories into a bunch of .tarbz2 (or any other achiving method,) files (700 MB would be greate,) so I can bring them home easier; reassembling the achives is mutch easier ten not downloading what I need and it takes mutch less time.

2: send me an E-mail doark@mail.com detailing how to tell your machine: 2A: it's a sever 2b: it's serving X and X infomation 2c: when someone types in lets say "free software" my website is in the choises (in other word advertizing,) and 2d: where to send the money it gets from someone logging on to my web page.

OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Change Status On Repositories?

Apr 22, 2011

After I upgraded from KDE 4.5 to KDE 4.6 I ran into a problem with changing the the status of different repoes from enabled to disabled, and vice versa. As I only did a desktop upgrade it is perhaps just a coincidence and hence the problem may be related to something different. But in any case, if I tick or untick the 'enable' or 'disable' option within the Yast module Software Repositories for the repo I wish to activate or deactivate, nothing happens. Deleting and readding the repoes has no effect, neither has rebuilding the rpm db or zypper refresh. I'm not very familiar with the command-line for these operations so I am grateful if anyone could give me a hint on what to try next.

OpenSUSE :: Tumbleweed And 11.4 Mirroring With SMT?

Apr 1, 2011

I have several SLES 11sp1 servers and using SMT (Subscription Management Tool) to provide local mirroring and prevent all the unnecessary web traffic to update all these machines.

I found this article which is working out quite nicely to mirror the openSUSE 11.3 Updates which prevents all my openSUSE 11.3 machines from all going out getting the same update.

Code:

[URL]

I am looking to try and do the same with openSUSE 11.4 and with openSUSE 11.4 using the Tumbleweed repos. Has anyone done this or can someone provide some insight on what I need to do. I am thinking I can run this command

Code:

smt-setup-custom-repos --name OpenSUSE_114_Updates --description "OpenSUSE 11.4 Updates" --exturl http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.4/ --productid *don't know what productid

I should use* to provide me with openSUSE 11.4 Updates. For the Tumbleweed repo would I do the same and would that work?

Code:

smt-setup-custom-repos --name OpenSUSE_Tumbleweed --description "OpenSUSE Tumbleweed" --exturl http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/Tumbleweed/standard/ --productid *don't know what productid I should use*

Again I don't know what productid I should use or if it really even matters, could I use one that is not being used? I am trying to limit how many machines go out to the Internet to pull down updates. I would really like to have one system (SMT) pulll down any new files and all my clients get their updates from the SMT server.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.2 Update Error: Failed To Download From Repositories

Feb 22, 2010

The red updater icon alerted me to about a dozen patches, which started to install, then halted with an error: Download failure from download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2/repo/non-oss. When I try to update repositories, the same error recurs for that repo and also for .../oss and download.opensuse.org/update/11.2/,

If I attempt to "register for support to get update repository," clicking on Configure Now and Next produces the same three error messages: "Failed to download", one for each repository. The screen then returns to Registration, with another error message "an error occurred while connecting to the server". Clicking on the Detail button show exactly "ERROR:"

This AMD desktop machine with this install of 11.2 has updated many times in the last few weeks. Has something changed? The update servers do respond to a ping, so they are up and apparently I have connectivity.
