Running xubuntu 10.10, disabled xfce settings helper and check for new hardware under session and startup. After rebooting I'm greeted with the normal login screen but don't have mouse or keyboard support! I'm wondering if there is anyway other then reinstalling to fix this. I've got my hdd mounted from the livecd, is there a config file to reenable these, or a way to make them run on boot. Or is there a boot option or a means to start them another way?

I have the system all set up as it needs to be to run live from t a DVD, and have tested the installer on built ISOs and it works great.However, I can't seem to keep my modified /etc/gdm/gdm.conf file from being replaced with a pristine default gdm.conf. I have even placed it under config/chroot_local-includes//etc/gdm/gdm.conf which I thought should work?

I copied the debian-backports file from /usr/share/live-helper/examples/source to config/chroot_sources(as debian-backports.chroot and debian-backports.binary) and fixed the first problem (had to change "etch" to "lenny" in the files.)

With sid I always get into trouble.Sometimes live-helper does't find any aufs-modules but it stops looking for them if I keep the options as simple as above.What is the problem of live-helper's to build on sid or squeeze (which I have met similar troubles with)?

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe sort of add on for Firefox 'download helper' now has a new screen capture thing, in case it won't download the video from a particular site. You click the red button and a purple boundary appears round the video frame. I assume this is the basic function of the thing; it then provides the geometry of the purple frame to the program you've given it to capture the video.
By default the program it uses is 'recordmydesktop'. I've tried using this but get sound from the laptop's internal microphone, not the video. Tried 'pavucontrol' to remedy this but it says (wrongly) that no program is recording, so can't put things right.

I am attempting to install a small rpm that will give command line access to an integrated array controller on my system so that I can add more local disk. When attempting to apply the package I am receiving an error indicating that there is not enough space available on the filesystem. I have expanded the filesystem several times today in order to try and resolve this issue and also moved ~1.5G of files to another filesystem but I am still receiving the error.

After adding what I thought were the correct entries in /etc/sudoers so I'd be able to run commands without needing to sudo them, I keep having to. My sudoers file entries look like this:

I have installed Kubuntu Lucid x86 10.4 LTS for the first time. Has anyone got a link that explains how KPackageKit gets the IP address of the repositories? I can install packages using sudo apt-get install xxx OK . KpackageKit tells me I have updates from the repositories. I can select them all and apply , but I get an error that it can't find the repository under a 192.168.100.129:8080 address . Which is not a surprise . I am using mirror.optus.net as a repository and can ping it fine on the command line. So is there somewhere else that KPackageKit maps IP addreses ? I have tried another mirror mirror.aarnet.edu.au and got similar results. My local sub-net is not 192.168.100 and have tried setting fixed IP on the local sub-net and different DHCP addresses and still the same error.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAbout three weeks ago I bought a new PC and installed Debian Squeeze. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 2494hs monitor connected to it. Until about an hour ago the monitor resolution was 1920x1080 and there were no problems. Anytime I clicked on system -> preferences -> monitors, the monitor preferences displayed the monitor name (Samsung whatever) as well as the resolution (1920x1080). An hour ago I did my normal daily upgrade via synaptic (synaptic -> mark all upgrades -> apply). When the upgrade were finished, the system indicated that a restart was required, so I restarted.
After the reboot, my monitor's resolution is set at 1152x864. System -> preferences -> monitors shows the monitor name as unknown and the max resolution available is 1360x768. Xrandr shows the max available resolution as 1360x1360, which is obviously wrong. According to discover I have an ATI graphics card. I've also run ddcprobebut that outputs about 15 lines and then stops with edidfail. I do not have an xorg.conf on my system or, if I do have one, it is not in /etc/X11.
