General :: Disabled Xfce-settings-helper And "check For New Hardware" - Mouse Not Working

Running xubuntu 10.10, disabled xfce settings helper and check for new hardware under session and startup. After rebooting I'm greeted with the normal login screen but don't have mouse or keyboard support! I'm wondering if there is anyway other then reinstalling to fix this. I've got my hdd mounted from the livecd, is there a config file to reenable these, or a way to make them run on boot. Or is there a boot option or a means to start them another way?
ted my old laptop with windows xp home ed and Fedora (xp was installed first). When I boot to Fedora OS to fill in initial settings (user name, password, network etc) to get it up and running the mousepad doesn't work (there is no cursor). It still works fine in Windows.Anyone know how to get this sorted? The laptop is an HP Pavillion ze2000. No external USB mouse or similar has been used.

I thought I'd try XFCE having used fluxbox for a while now, always keen to try something different. I've installed everything XFCE related from the package manager and it is mostly working well. The problem that I am having though is that I cannot see the display settings. When I try to access them through the menus I am presented with the following:Unable to start the XFCE display settings - The video driver does not support video outputs.My graphics card is GEForce 7050/nForce 610i. nVidia drivers are all up to date. So far I've been unable to find an answer on XFCE forums.
When I click on "HELP" in some of the XFCE settings applets, I get an error. It looks as if the software is looking for the help under "/usr/share/doc/xfce-utils/" whereas the documentation is really stored under "/usr/share/doc/packages/xfce-utils/". I can add a symlink as a workaround. But before I do that, I thought I should ask whether there is a configuration file somewhere that allows setting the documentation path.
I am quite experienced in installing openSUSE. (I used it for many years.) But the problem showed below tricks me out.
I just tried to install openSUSE 11.2. In initmode 3 the keyboard works well. Everything worked well up to the moment I started runlevel 5. In XWindows Modus, the keyboard and the mouse are disabled. And I cannot get back to any other Virtual console.
When I started sax2, I get something (in the file /var/log/Sax.log) or both mouse and keyboard like this:
It indicates , mouse and keyboard are disabled.
Here are my questions:
How can I ENABLE my keyboard and my mouse?
Where is the file that configures sax2?
Do I have to set ("on") the AutoAddDevices? or to "off"
My Googling about this said to make sure xfdesktop was running. I have.Changes made to the panel, to startup and session persist.But number of workplaces, wallpaper, font, theme and so on revert to what they were before. These settings are from when I used Xfce before in Ubuntu 8.04. (My /home dir is on its own partition and I like to keep all my config files for apps I have used and might want to again.)I suspect I might need to delete a config file but I'd rather not undo all of the other settings that do work. Which? Or is it something else?
Every time reboot or log in i have to readjust my settings in the mixer. volume is at 0 and i have to adjust the tone control and its settings every time to get it back.
I've looked at the Arch wiki entry for configuring NVIDIA cards/drivers, and I found that you can put the command nvidia-settings --load-config-only into your DE's session startup configs to make it launch automatically upon login. However, I can't seem to figure out how to do this under Xfce. I've already tried modifying /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml with the following:
I've installed SalixOS LXDE and thought it was the best thing but... After I disabled almost all services except syslog, dbus, and hald while inside lxde desktop. I rebooted and my mouse and keyboard no longer worked. So then I booted my Slackware install and edited /etc/inittab on the salix partition so I could boot into init 3 (I kinda like init 3 more than 4 anyway). Booted back into salix and keyboard seems to work but gpm doesn't... Gpm can't find any mouse so I do an lsmod and there's only about 4 modules loaded? Crap... So I dig around /etc/rc.d folder and I think it's got to do with me disabling the udev services when everything was fine after a fresh install...
I ran the init script for udev but it does nothing... I also ran pkgtool and went to setup, selected services and hit enter but it jumps back to the main menu?! I don't know if that's a glitch or what but it won't even let me pick the services with pkgtool... So what can I do to change everything back to their default value? I only booted once into my new salix install, changed services, rebooted, and then problems... I really loved the way everything was working on my first boot. Salix is one of those distro's that really gave me a happy feeling with linux so I'd really hate to stop using it over this one wrong thing I did...
was prompted to dl some updates after a fresh install but it was only partially successful, and whenrebooted, the screen froze with the mssge:Cannot open Konsolekit sessionPermission of the setup uid in not correct.
I have a machine running XFCE in a "kiosk" environment. The machine normally runs without a keyboard or mouse, and I remote control it via VNC and SSH.
When the machine starts up, the mouse cursor sits in the center of the screen. I don't want to plug in a mouse or use VNC to move the mouse to the bottom-right corner so that it is not visible, so is there a way to hide the mouse cursor or tell it to move to the lower right when X starts? It would be even cooler if the mouse could be disabled or hidden when no mouse is connected, but re-enabled when someone plugs in a mouse, but that's probably asking too much.
I have install fedora11 live and the mouse work well when installing.When you reboot the mouse works ok until the welcome screen apears then the mouse stops working and I cannot continue with the postinstall. I have a 1TB usb externalHD that I am installing fedora11 and have partitioned it so that I have 500Gb free for fedora, system is doucore 2.4,4gb RAm, I tryed doing this with three differend mice and connectting the mouse to different usb ports
i just installed ubuntu through windows installer , the problem is that some times my mouse stop working i cannot click any where but i can open some stuff with my keyboard . when i open my browser with keyboard my mouse starts working , but still cant click on the top menus like volume , mails , or shutdown restart etc ... but when i right click on an empty page of the browser again my mouse stops working right know i am only working with keyboard

I have Fedora 11 installed on my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop, and have been using the installation for many months. Just this past couple of days, the 'right-click' on the mouse (whether using the trackpad mouse on the latop or an external mouse) has stopped working, but not completely. I can still right-click in firefox, on the bar at the top of screen, in a terminal window, etc. However, right-click is not working on the desktop, that is I can not right-click on a folder or a file. Nothing happens. If I right-click on the trash-can, nothing. So I know the mouse buttons are fine as right-click does work in firefox.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 recently converted to run Fedora 13. Everything seems fine except the touchpad mouse doesn't work outside the X-Window. When I boot to full multi-user mode, the mouse doesn't work at all. I think this is responsible for the typical UNIX copy & paste by selecting and right clicking not to work within GUI. I bought an Acer Aspire One Netbook and installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix, but the Touchpad tab in the mouse settings is missing. How do I enable it? I am using Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid).
I just rented a godaddy dedicated, the ubuntu variety comes loaded with 8.04...(& I need PHP 5.3)Followed the directions here: URL...I did have to change my sources.list, everything after that went as expected (not like i'd know what to expect)At one point it asked if I wanted to update my grub/menu.lst to the release version, or use my old one, I updated it.Once the upgrade completed, I checked the menu.lst again to ensure it was gonna boot 10.04 (as warned by the guide)However once I sent reboot, I couldn't SSH back in, I waited 5m, 15m, tried again, still couldn't SSH then I had the server power cycled via my godaddy control panel, and still nothing, attempts on port 22 timed out & other ports were refused.
I think I overlooked something because, from what I've read here and there this is technically possible, I also just found this guide here:URL...The first user comment (above link/guide) seems to have a tip for what I'm trying.Anyways had the server re-provisioned via my control panel & I'm about to try again, only this time. uh, check the SSH settings post upgrade/pre restart?
using Kubuntu 10.04. When my computer was being updated sudden power failure forced my system to reboot and in the log in screen I can find that my keyboard and mouse is not working at all. I cannot enter into my system. I tried to enter ctrl+F1 but failed.
I've been looking everywhere to find out how to configure my touchpad so I can enable two-finger scrolling and disable-while-typing. I have a fresh installation of Debian Squeeze (I did NOT upgrade from a previous version of Debian, as that seems to cause this problem with some Ubuntu installations). I have the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics driver installed (already reinstalled it to no avail) and the gsynaptics package, which was supposed to add the tab in the mouse preferences but did not (as suggested here: I have a Samsung RF510-S01US if there is something about the touchpad this computer has that is not supported or something. (I know for a fact that this touchpad can handle multi-touch inputs, as it works under Windows 7)
When i install a mouse theme via appearance settings it only works in firefox and other applications.The theme does not work on my desktop and other various places.I have viewed other threads regarding this error and the only fix would be to change the mouse theme in ccsm but fore some odd reason i do not have the option to change mouse themes in ccsm, i have looked everyware in ccsm and i can not find anyware to change the mouse theme?
I have a mouse that have left and right move clicks on its scroll so I want to set these two to switch the desktop to left of right one accordingly. Thus, do you know any way to do that. I guess, need shell command to do that and then I need to bind these commands with the button but how?
I'm using openSUSE 11.3 with Xfce 4.7.0 and I want to enable automatic login. What I have tried so far:
1) YaST -> User and Group Management -> Expert Options -> Login Settings. This didn't work because I have no "Login Settings" option in this menu.
2) Editing variables "DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN" and "DISPLAYMANAGER_PASSWORD_LESS_LOGIN" via YaST -> /etc/sysconfig Editor. This didn't work too and xdm was still asking about name and password no matter what I set here.
3) I don't know how to configure xdm, so I tried to replace xdm with gdm. Gdm worked, but application "gdmsetup" was missing from my installation (YaST simply don't offer this package) and I don't know how to set up gdm manually, so I ended without autologin again.
Openoffice.org apparently ignores the window manager altogether for questions of focus. This combined with opening lots of little dialogs and menus is making it almost unusable. (Over at openoffice.org, this has been answered with (essentially) "I use click to focus, so raising on focus is normal, so I'm putting at the lowest possible priority because it has nothing to do with usability.") The problem is that I use focus following the mouse, with click to raise. This is very convenient for copying between two windows and saves me a lot of time and energy, as I have to do this quite often. Current behavior, however, causes Openoffice.org to raise any window you happen to pass over, thus hiding the floating toolbar or dialog box that you were trying to click on. Worse, as the window you brushed by has gained focus, in most cases, the toolbar or dialog disappears entirely. The only solution is to move everything around so as to have a path to get to your toolbar/dialog without touching another window, or to minimize all but one openoffice document. Is there anyway to make Openoffice.org usable with this setting?
