So i downloaded swiftfox and its great. its just not loading downloads with the specified applications when i click them, i.e. opening .deb, .jpg, .txt, it asks me to chose an application (list is empty, so you have to set a custom application)

I have been wanting conky to run at start up... fortunately I got that part done (I am very new) but after that, even though my conky was not configured to stand on top of my applications it would, and I didn't want that so I added some more code, and now it disappears if I click over it, it is still running, just not visible.

Recently I have installed Fedora 10. It comes with firefox 3.xx by default. Now I was wondering if there is any way through which i can update it to 3.5 version though yum. I have tried yum update firefox but it did not work and returns following messages Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit Setting up Update Process No Packages marked for Update I know that one way to update is download the latest Tar package and use it, but I want to totally remove my previous installation and use solely one package i.e. firefox 3.5.

I removed .recently-used.xbel to avoid recently opened files to be logged, so this explains part of these errors. I had disabled gnome-screensaver but now I would need it to automate screen lock and looks like dbus may be the problem. My .dbus directory is empty.
I just installed ubuntu 11.04 and am experiencing problems loading applications in the software center. I select a department to see what's available and nothing comes up, it just keeps loading.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a new user of Linux & I have recently written an application using Glade and GTK for a touch screen interface using Debian V5. The software is now complete and working so the simple bit (i thought) would be to get the software to load when the touchscreen is switched on. I have made a link to the software executable using the system/prefs/sessions option but the software seems to load on startup without the user interface. Looking at the system manager the software does seem to be running but it seems to be in the background. If i load the programme manually the GUI works.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that the majority of the time I will double click an icon to launch and application the cursor activity (mouse loading/busy icon) will not show. The application will launch but there is no indication whatsoever that it's starting up. I haven't had this problem with other Linux distro's and I'm wondering if it's a setting or some sort.
I did notice that on a few applications it works just fine and it will do the loading animation. However, a lot of them will not show it at all. This is very frustrating especially if the application takes a bit to load and you don't know if you even launched it to begin with. Is this a bug or something that can be turned on?
I do hope I explained which animation I'm referring to. It's the circular loading animation that occupies the mouse when you are waiting for an application to finish launching. I'm not entirely sure if this is a gnome thing. Seem to work just fine on my old KDE desktop.
I installed envyng using Synaptic Package Manager and when it finished I used CTRL+ALT+F1 and went through the steps on setting up the ATI driver, there was only 1 driver for my card in the list to choose from so I went for that, I then rebooted when prompted me to do so.
Just before It's about to goto the login window my screen flashes a couple of times then it throws me an error:
Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode

After I click my firebox browser button on my unity launcher (or in applications) it does nothing. If I click it from my launcher it blinks 6 or 7 times then, does nothing.I have had this problem before, but a simple log-off log-on fixed it. I have even tried to restart and nothing changed. Is there something else I should try? Sudo killall firefox, says no processes, but I dont think this would be necessary after a restart even. What else can I do? Should I uninstall, then re-install, or is this unnecessary?

When I go to any other page (ex. cnn.com, gmail, etc) the page will load graphically, but then continue to load forever. At this point I cannot click on anything in firefox including the drop-down menus.I must force quit at this point.
I updated last night even though I was already using firefox 3.6. I had a problem with flash last time I updated. I was using my old computer with ubuntu on it a few minutes ago, and when I loaded up firefox... All of a sudden the pac-man music started playing. There wasn't anything else open that could have caused that, and not even any other tabs up... It sounds like something a virus might do, but Linux is extremely resistant to that sort of thing.. Firefox works fine on my windows rig, so what the heck is going on?EDIT: I turned off javascript, and the noises stopped. But what javascript on firefox could be doing that, and why is it only on my linux?

Suggestion posted to Delete ".mozilla/firefox" folder from my home directory worked initially,but the problem reappeared some time ago.

Why do I keep getting this error when I try to search something on google. It happens when my query has around five or more words. If a search for just one or two words I don't get the error. Two very simmilar laptops connected to the same WiFi router loading the same web pages. Firefox on Windows does that for 3 secons, while Firefox on Ubuntu needs 1-3 minutes to load the same page. What could be the reason for this? Any idea how to fix it? The laptop with Ubuntu runs 10.04 LTS (lucid), Firefox is 3.6.10 and on any other WiFi network it loads the web pages really faster but why is much slower than Windows now?When testing the speed on URL...Ubuntu loads times faster than Windows. The WiFi router has been reseted. Firefox has been started in -safe-mode, both didn't help.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe basics: Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid x64 with Firefox 3.6.11 on a Thinkpad T61p 2gb ram/500gb HD. When I try to access my email via Squirrelmail, Firefox hangs on loading. If I stop the page from loading, wait a few minutes, then try again, I have a 50:50 chance of it loading this time.
I've run the update to make sure I have the most recent versions of software, but it still hangs. I've tried a few cursory searches, but find nothing referencing Lucid or that is otherwise current.
I'm having trouble with Firefox hanging. It takes at least two attempts to launch, having to force the initial blank page to quit. Often it will freeze my desktop when loading new pages, and I have to force quit. I've upgraded to 3.6.17 but no difference. The Mozilla help page suggests disabling add-ons to find the problem, but to no avail. Chrome works OK but I'd rather use Firefox.

I am developing an extension for firefox that enables users to chat with any others who happen to be browsing the same website at the same time. The xul file adds a tool bar with a button "Enable Chat" in the browser toolbox. when a user clicks the Enable chat button, the server initiates the chat. I'm Dual-booting XP with Ubuntu Karmic Koala, heres my other specs:
CPU: Intel Pentium D 3.0Ghz family(15) model(4) stepping(4)
GFX: Geforce 7800 GT (had problems with GFX when I first installed Ubuntu, I had to update my drivers)
2 GB RAM
This is a nearly fresh install of Karmic Koala, I've only installed whatever updates I needed, graphics card drivers, KPlayer, and Google Chrome. Because I prefer Chrome over Firefox I immediately went to download Chrome, and Firefox would get to the Chrome page and then crash. I then got the Chrome install file from another computer and installed it. Chrome will not even launch, so I go to search the problem in Firefox and it crashes on ANY link I click in Google Search. I also tried to directly type websites into the URL box: it loads the pages title (Ex. "Yahoo! Mail"), and crashes before displaying the page at all.
This is a very odd problem to me as I used the same disc to install dual-boot with Win7 and Ubuntu on my laptop which works perfectly, and now this happens to my desktop.
I have been investigating some security precautions over the past several months. I use Ubuntu now instead of windows and FIrefox browser also. I have installed BetterPrivacy, WOT, NoSCript and a few other add ons. I have SELinux, ClamAV, AIDE, and chkrootkit installed for Ubuntu.
When we browse certain web sites, we get an error about the server being reset. However, when I put the Ubuntu install cd in and browse with Firefox, obviously with no add ons or settings changed, we can browse to the site with no problems. We are trying to be secure on the internet and I don't want to lower or get rid of any of the settings / add ons we added. What would cause servers to reset when using Firefox / Ubuntu with browser add ons / OS addons?
