I'm using Live helper to create install discs. I have the system all set up as it needs to be to run live from t a DVD, and have tested the installer on built ISOs and it works great.However, I can't seem to keep my modified /etc/gdm/gdm.conf file from being replaced with a pristine default gdm.conf. I have even placed it under config/chroot_local-includes//etc/gdm/gdm.conf which I thought should work?

I copied the debian-backports file from /usr/share/live-helper/examples/source to config/chroot_sources(as debian-backports.chroot and debian-backports.binary) and fixed the first problem (had to change "etch" to "lenny" in the files.)

With sid I always get into trouble.Sometimes live-helper does't find any aufs-modules but it stops looking for them if I keep the options as simple as above.What is the problem of live-helper's to build on sid or squeeze (which I have met similar troubles with)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm building my own ubuntu variant for low resource systems at the moment. It's based from the ubuntu 10.10 minimal install (12mb iso). It uses openbox as the window manager and SLiM as the login/display manager.
What I would like two know is how to have a few config files that are on the live cd to be altered for the installed system. Specifically, SLiM autologin, but I'll probably find other things to change aswell. Basically a sort of "first boot script".
My sound card (Soundblaster 24 live! USB) stopped working shortly after upgrading to 10.04. everything was fine until the upgrade as well a immediatly after, so I assume that an update was to blame. If I boot the PC off a live CD, all is well and the sound card works fine.
I've tried running
aplay -l
but it assured me that I do not have a sound card on the system to setup! how I find the broken config file or busted driver?

I've just made the switch from Ubuntu to Debian Squeeze and am having trouble connecting external media (be it a USB stick or an ext HD). The error I am getting when I connect anything via usb is the following:

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe sort of add on for Firefox 'download helper' now has a new screen capture thing, in case it won't download the video from a particular site. You click the red button and a purple boundary appears round the video frame. I assume this is the basic function of the thing; it then provides the geometry of the purple frame to the program you've given it to capture the video.
By default the program it uses is 'recordmydesktop'. I've tried using this but get sound from the laptop's internal microphone, not the video. Tried 'pavucontrol' to remedy this but it says (wrongly) that no program is recording, so can't put things right.

I'm running Ubuntu Server 11.04 with OpenSSH, trying to create an ssh tunnel (for web traffic) to it from my (also Ubuntu) laptop. This is the command I'm using to create the tunnel:

I've Googled and AllowTcpForwarding is set to yes, as is X11Forwarding.. but it still doesn't work. Chrome can connect to the server, but says the connection was closed before any data was sent.
I installed this package (Squeeze) and the man page for laptop-mode.conf is rather overwhelming in the amount of information it provides, as is the .conf itself; does anyone know if simply installing laptop-mode-tools has an effect on power consumption? In other words, does the default .config save power? Or do I have to alter the .config? If so what would an optimal .config for an EEE PC look like?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running a server with a GRSecurity patched Kernel 2.6.32.36. I've tried to optimize the kernel as much as I can and know it (removing options, not needed drivers and so on) and compiled the modules into the kernel (no loadable modules anymore). I've started with Slackware 13.0 and the default config for 2.6.29.6-huge. Still I am not sure what to remove/optimize further now.
My question: Is there a way to boot with a kernel with loadable modules, check which modules are really needed for this hardware, (do something like lsmod) and save the running configuration modules for a next kernel compile to be the default .config instead of writing them down by hand and search for the appropriate names in .config or during menuconfig? (Note: zcat /proc/config.gz > .config is NOT the way I want, as it gives me just the current kernel config)

I use this GUI app a lot when I was using Ubuntu. Very simple to use. I want to use it in my new Debian 7 xfce install. My understanding is that I would have to build a deb from source to allow me to use this app? If this is the case, what is the best (easiest) way to do this. I saw some videos in YouTube but I'm not sure if things have changed with the new Debian 7. I have never used Debian before so if possible, go easy on me...
