Jun 28, 2009

Change the association in your preferences I dont understand what preference it wants me to change or how or what program i need What im altimitly trying to do is set up a forum on my website but I host my website and i dont want to have to pay for someone else to host my forum website is seans.zapto.org I am running centos 5.3 with apache, mysql, httpd wich i installed with the gelp of this totorial; [URL]...
I tried to download a photographic program called Bibble from:It is their Linux Deb version.I am using Karmic (64-bit) and get the following error message:/tmp/bibble5pro-5.0.3_i386.deb could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.I removed GDeb and reinstalled it, still the problem.Which preferences is the error message referring to? I really would like to evaluate this program.PS, I opened GDeb and went to the /temp folder and clicked on bibble and get the error message "Wrong architecture i386" does this mean it is only 32-bit?
I have 2 internal drives. One is for the OS and one is for the Data. I tried to get the Data drive to mount automatically at login using some crap I found on a linux blog. Safe to say it didn't work and now I can't mount it with the OS on the OS Drive.
It mounts from a live CD and all the data is perfectly safe. When I try to mount the drive I get this error message: "Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: only root can mount /dev/sdb1 on /media/data" What have I done wrong and how can I make it mount again? Preferably this time at login.
I bought a new SD card which I intend to put some MP3s on - except that I can't write to it because it tells me the destination is Read Only. No-probs thinks I: I'll just reformat it.
"Error creating file system: helper exited with exit code 1: cannot open /dev/mmcblk0p1: Read-only file system"
Various chmod commands all result in Read-only file system. I tried umount then mount commands, but it couldn't find it to mount once I'd unmounted it using the same /media/ file path (I assume it's the only one).
when I try to su, with the right password I know it is because I have reset it with a sudo, it says su: incorrect password. Looking at /var/log/messages I see su: Unable to open admin password file: Permission denied. This must mean that the file has incorrect permissions and or owner/group. I am wondering if anyone knew where the file was located and the correct permissions/owner/group.
In my system(CENTOS) displays the "gdm user does not exist". I cannot typing any word except username and password. Try all virtual terminal but failed. and also try to connect the ssh but I can't.
I just recently bought a second hand netbook (HP Mini Mi 110) from ebay which use linux ubuntu as OS. I changed the previous username to mine but when i tried to login again...this warning pop out "your home directory is listed as: '/home/mazlin' but it does not appear to exist. Do you want to log in with the /(root) directory as you home directory? It is unlikely anything will work unless you use a failsafe session" so i click yes. then...
user's $HOME/.drmc file is being ignored. This prevents the default session and language from being saved. File should be owned by user and have 644 permissions. user's $HOME directory must be owned by user and not writable by other users. next i click OK, then... your session only lasted less than 10 seconds. if you have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you may be out of diskspace. try logging in with one of the failsafe sessions to see if you can fix this problem. when i click ok, the login screen reappear again... how to use failsafe sessions.
apt-get does not exist on my server: when i run this command: apt-get install php5-dev i get: Code: apt-get: command not found information: Plesk 9.3.0 | PHP Version 5.1.6 | CentOS release 5.4 | Linux 2.6.28.7 | GenuineIntel, Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU 330 in usr/bin there's nothing called apt-get i have root access (SSH)
As of this morning I cannot open pdf's by clicking on them in firefox. I can download them and open them from the download window or even from the folder they are saved to, but not from the browser. Evince opens and says: Unable to open document Error opening file: No such file or directory.
This should be simple but I can't seem to find what I am looking for.I want to search a text file for the existence of certain strings and execute a command if they exist, something along the lines of:
if <string> exists command or
if <any member of this list exists> command
I know how to manually search a file with grep, cat, etc., but the "if this exists" part eludes me.
Use python as example, I have 64bit python 2.4.3 yet I can't found rpm for 32bit one so I try to build it.Use default make or make --enable-readline is ok, python make cannot use CFLAGS, can use OPT and LDFLAGS to add -m32, yetit seems can only search for 64bit lib, or else crush.[Moderator edit: Moved from CentOS-4 to CentOS-5 forum.]
How do I open an app from a dialog box? Eg the download db in FF in which you have options to Open or Save. I want to be able to navigate to a folder containing app folders which I can then open to find an icon to double click so as to launch an app. Much like in Windows navigating to Program files (I think it is called). How do you do this in Linux?
So for Windows, I can load up Xming in the background, SSH into a Linux machine, and open up a file with gedit. Gedit appears on my Windows desktop through Xming.
I'm using Ubuntu now, and when I ssh into the same Linux machine, I can't open up gedit and mess with some files.
Is there a Linux version of Xming I have to get? I'm sure there's an easier way, I just don't know it.
Ok For some reason I open my ports in security and firewall. I open ssh and other ports and port 7001 for example but when I go to check to see if they are open or try to connect to them. It shows that they are still closed. I am using - [URL] Also yes my ports are open on my router. I know my router works fine with opening ports because I have shoutcast setup on another computer with xp that is currently running. I am willing to pay for who can ever get this fixed for me...
I am using Compiz, and am trying to use Animations to make only Gloobus Preview (Window name= gloobus-preview) open with one of three animations. I have selected Horizontal Folds, Sidekick, and Zoom in Random Effects, made a new item for Open, set its duration to 200, set it to Random, and have tried everything possible to try and get only Gloobus Preview to have an animation, but nothing works. I can get everything except Gloobus Preview to have an animation, but if I do the opposite, then nothing works. If I set it to "any", then Gloobus Preview animates, but so does everything else. I would like for nothing to have an open animation except for Gloobus Preview. How can I do this in Compiz's Animations?
I am new to Ubuntu. I just configured Evolution email client, every thing is fine. But I need to put password to open this app, this is because many uses my computer.
I have a small netbook that I would like to use as a terminal for my main computer, so instead of opening Gnome-terminal on my computer it will run from my netbook.
what i want to know is how to ssh from my netbook into my main computer and run an application on that computer.
So i would like to be able to ssh into my computer, and when i type "vlc movie.avi" it will open and run on the REMOTE computer just as if i had opened gnome-terminal and typed the command there.
Note: I'm not looking for something/anything like "ssh -X" or VNC or Remote Desktop.
I noticed a few minutes ago that although I can open the Places and System menus fine, when I click on Applications it highlights but no drop down menu appears beneath it as usual, and when I right click and select Edit Menus also nothing happens.
I have since restarted which did not resolve the issue.
How can I remedy this, and what could have caused the problem to begin with?
I have downloaded Unetbootin for linux. When I double clicked on it, it says, no application to open executable files. What application can open executable files?
