I have a Fujitsu Siemans AMILO Li 2727 and have tried and like Linux Ubuntu. My problem is I have an internal ariel that switches off when you power down. It has to be manually switched on by pressing function F1. I can't get this to work in Linux - I want to be able to use my laptop with my wireless router again.

I have been able to get 4.5 hours out of Ubuntu,compared to the 8 hours I have been able to get with Windows 7 Starter. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an external hard drive with an xfs partition on it. It was using an external journal, but in re-installing Slackware I removed the partition holding the external journal, forgetting what it was at the time. I didn't touch the contents of the external hard drive, but now I can't mount it and the various xfs programs seem to demand that it be mounted in order for them to change anything.Anyone have any ideas on how to change an xfs partition from external log to internal? Failing that, how do I get the information off it?

192.168.0.2
192.168.0.3
etc...
My server, had the internal address of 192.168.0.4 but now has changed to 192.168.0.7 what causes this to happen? I have to change my port forwarding on my router to allow access to my server from outside my network.
I bought a laptop off ebay, its a Compaq Presario CQ60-305EA. I think it has a built in microphone. I was using skype and I couldnt get the microphone to work. I never got a disc or anything with the laptop so I am not sure if you are supposed to install it or whatever. I did that sound check test but it couldnt trace anything If anybody knows could they tell me does this laptop even have a built in microphone and if so how do I work it?

I'm having trouble with the webcam that comes installed on the 701SD linux. It records video in .ogg format. Is there a way I can get it to record in another format? Also no websites online will recognize this webcam. They always say there is no webcam installed, but there is one, it's right next to the sound recorder on the play tab
View 2 Replies View Relatedi recently purchased my second laptop, primarily for linux. When i chose it, my main concern was battery life. Just to make a side note. When i say battery life, i mean how long the computer takes until the battery goes flat. Not how many years/ect it takes till the battery will no longer hold charge.
My new computer claims to be able to get 10 hours. Although it's a bit off, i get a satisfying little bit over 6 hours, from full charge. This is running Windows 7. I couldn't wait to put Linux on my new computer, i have, but it just isn't satisfying because i only get about 4 hours while running linux, tried three different distros, and all roughly the same.

View 7 Replies View RelatedIts been quite some time since if had to post on here but I have been using linux this whole time and still loving it. Heres my new problem I have an Acer Aspire one netbook I installed Ubuntu 9.10 off of a usb hdd. Everything worked right off the bat including the wireless but after being on it for about a half hour I get a crash notice. Im sure that its the install on the usb hdd but due to the netbooks not having cd drives I cant burn a new iso. What I'm needing to know is that if there is anyway to fix this without reinstalling. Or if there is a way of downloading ubuntu and installing it with out the need for a cd drive. If more information is needed just let me know I'll be more than happy to post any more information needed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery time I try to change file or folder permissions on a separate internal drive in ubuntu 10.10 desktop in sudo file manager, It sets it right back to the way it was before and doesn't save the permissions I want to change it to. The files aren't critical system files that are not even existent on this hard drive.
Its on a completely separate drive, Yet aren't I suppose to be in control of what gets changed to what? Instead of a Operating System doing something just for my safety? A simple AVI files permissions being changed shouldn't hurt anything. How to I stop ubuntu 10.10 from auto setting the permissions of my folders and files? Its really starting to me off right now. I've been looking around on google for Auto reset permissions for ubuntu, Haven't found one word about it. Yet I'm just going to assume someone might know how to resolve this? Or has dealed with this before.
I'm just trying to Forcefully set my folders on my separate drive all to 777 because they are all 775 and 755 and I can only access them with Write privileges if I run the SUDO file manager which I really hate having to do every so often I'm sure you can relate to how annoying it is to have to open up terminal and type something in to open a fully priviledged file manager.
Netbooks play embedded flash well but struggle with fullscreen flash playback on sites like BBC iPlayer. Fortunately, in Fedora it is pretty easy to change video mode to match the required resolution and get smooth playback.I tested this on an Acer Aspire One, but should work on most netbooks, even the original eeepc 701 can playback smoothly with a small mod to overclock the celeron to it's 900mhz potential (use eee.ko, it compiles in the latest kernels if you do sed 's/&proc_root/NULL/g' -i eee.c and sed '/owner/d' -i eee.c before running make)

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have an old laptop (compaq armada m700... a piii with 576mb ram!!!) which i seldomly use. i have always "wished" i could use this old (and slow and crippled) laptop to do something basic, very basic: to connect to the internet, browse my email, maybe download and read a pdf, watch some stupid videos videos (-not in hd, of course i know!)... and that's about it (no gaming, no office, no photoshoping, no anything else!). but i wanted to do that in style: fast and without hazzle -as 'in having to navigate thru somehow obscure prompt commands or similar!'.
i've tried installing a bare tinyxp... but yet it takes forever to start up, load... and be ready to navigate. i've also looked at the linux world -albeit i am clueless on this os- and i tried installing different flavours of ubuntu and others. unfortunately results weren't much better than with tinyxp -in regards of starting up and responding to user interaction in a reasonably and timely manner. lately i've hear about the (in)famous chrome or chromium or whatever... but it seems it's not going to be ready for a while just yet and it won't necessarely work on such old laptops like mine

I have just tried to upgrade my Toshiba Laptop (Satelite X205-S9800) from Fedora 10, which was working correctly, to Fedora 12. During the first boot Fedora 12 does not recognise my Wireless LAN Card and stops (Freezes) in that part of the first boot sequence. I have tried switching the LAN OFF in the Bios and also switching it off(There is an On/Off switch on the Wirless LAN card. Neither of those actions fixed the problem.

It is a BCM4303. Yes, it is an old one. So far I have spend virtually nothing on the computer. Ubuntu installed without a hitch as far as I can tell with the exception of this WIFI problem.
