Feb 23, 2010Its been quite some time since if had to post on here but I have been using linux this whole time and still loving it. Heres my new problem I have an Acer Aspire one netbook I installed Ubuntu 9.10 off of a usb hdd. Everything worked right off the bat including the wireless but after being on it for about a half hour I get a crash notice. Im sure that its the install on the usb hdd but due to the netbooks not having cd drives I cant burn a new iso. What I'm needing to know is that if there is anyway to fix this without reinstalling. Or if there is a way of downloading ubuntu and installing it with out the need for a cd drive. If more information is needed just let me know I'll be more than happy to post any more information needed.

Fortunately, in Fedora it is pretty easy to change video mode to match the required resolution and get smooth playback.I tested this on an Acer Aspire One, but should work on most netbooks, even the original eeepc 701 can playback smoothly with a small mod to overclock the celeron to it's 900mhz potential (use eee.ko, it compiles in the latest kernels if you do sed 's/&proc_root/NULL/g' -i eee.c and sed '/owner/d' -i eee.c before running make)

I have been able to get 4.5 hours out of Ubuntu,compared to the 8 hours I have been able to get with Windows 7 Starter. I'm looking into purchasing a HD capture device, but the only one which says it supports Linux in the spec is the Blackmagic Intensity Pro (PCi Card). Here is a list of the ones which I'm looking into possibly getting, but I'd like to know if I can use it to record (my Xbox 360) on Ubuntu (Studio) 10.04 Lucid Lynx, and how hard it would be to set it up.

Jun 12, 2010The problem of slow usb transfer speeds has been half solved in Lucid. I'm getting 25 mbps plus speeds when it comes to transferring data to portable hard drive. But with my Kingston flash drive the speeds are still as low as 2 mbps. Is this because some flash drives are not meant to be compatible with Ubuntu?

Dec 7, 2010Having moved my computers into a "new" office in my house, I have no network cables. Had fun times trying to run a network cable, ultimately stopped due to unknown block in the vertical wall and fear of drilling through something important. I have strong WIFI signal to this room.
I tried plugging in my Netgear WPN111, didn't work. Works on my Win7 box, and I need one on that anyway, so I'd prefer to get another wifi card, be it a PCI, PCIE, or USB dongle. I would prefer the USB dongle since I could then use it elsewhere if need be. I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit. The cpu is an Intel quad-core 920, with 8GB ram.

Before I had Ubuntu, I had Windows, but due to a problem with a nasty virus, and then not having the original product code for Windows, I couldn't get Windows back on my computer so they put lovely Ubuntu on it. Now, I am a Manager at a hotel, and I have to be able to view my hotel security cameras from home when I am not at work. It is an IP web address and it is not compatible with Firefox. My question is this. Is there any plugin out there that would make webpages that are non compatible with Firefox able to be viewed?

I have thought of upgrading to 10.04 for a long time, but I am unable to do so as I do not know if my mobile broadband device, Huawei EC1260, works out of the box in 10.04. Now, many people may be considering that I might just download the CD image and try it out.
