I have a group of people each set to manage a specific task. I have a projector in the middle of the room hooked up to a computer. How can each user push their screens to the host computer? All computers are on a lan
i recently purchased my second laptop, primarily for linux. When i chose it, my main concern was battery life. Just to make a side note. When i say battery life, i mean how long the computer takes until the battery goes flat. Not how many years/ect it takes till the battery will no longer hold charge.
My new computer claims to be able to get 10 hours. Although it's a bit off, i get a satisfying little bit over 6 hours, from full charge. This is running Windows 7. I couldn't wait to put Linux on my new computer, i have, but it just isn't satisfying because i only get about 4 hours while running linux, tried three different distros, and all roughly the same.
15.4 inch laptops tend to be slightly cheaper than 14-inch laptops? Supply and demand? and if you do not mind answering another question, what's your perspective on uncle Larry eating Sun?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI actually have two problems (which may be related). I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on a old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo La1703 and Windows 7 on a new Dell Inspiron 1545. I only have one broadband internet dongle, so I would like to share the connection (preferably via wireless ad hoc connection, but lan would work too). The dongle is run with a program that comes with it and works fine in both Windows and Ubuntu (except that the Network Manager in Ubuntu doesn't realise that there is an internet connection).
Yesterday morning I managed ONCE to make a wireless ad hoc connection and was able to use the dongle connected on the Windows machine from the Ubuntu one (using WEP security). Since I wasn't able to reproduce this I tried with a Ethernet cable. I plugged it in and and was surfing smoothly the whole evening.
This morning I couldn't connect the computers any more. Neither with nor without cable. When the cable is plugged in the Ubuntu machine recognises a connection, but fails to connect. The windows machine just says "Unidentified Network". I don't know what I did to make the connection disappear or why my laptops refuse to communicate like friends any more. I've been trying the whole day to make them kiss and make up, but they are really stubborn.
I have written an OpenGL based program which uses i.a. libjpeg that I want to link statically so I can send it to someone who doesn't have all the libraries needed installed to allow for a dynamically linked executable to run. As such I tried with giving the [b]-static[b] parameter to gcc.
Code:
x86_1$ make
gcc -O3 -c jpegloader.c
gcc --std=c99 -O3 -c --std=c99 -I/usr/include -L/usr/X11R6/lib main.c
[code].....
Why would gcc claim that I'm missing GLUT? This works perfectly fine when I do dynamic linking -- i.e. omitting the -static argument.
I have a situation where I am trying to move some data from a Linux computer to a Windows computer. In all there is 700GB of data to move in about 1.5 million files, so I don't want to do this over the network. My first thought was to use an external USB hard drive and create an NTFS partition and copy the files from the linux computer to mount on the Windows computer. After 4 days of copying without completion I abandoned that idea. I thought the NTFS might be slowing it down, so I created an EXT3 partition. 4 Days later it was still copying. I did some calculations and there was no way the USB 2.0 connection was that slow. I then used ddrescue and cloned the drive to be copied overnight and it took about 12 hours. i was able to mount the USB drive under Linux and access the files appropriately. The only problem is that I can not access that USB drive on my Windows 7 computer. I have tried Explore2fs, DiskInternals Linux Reader, and Ext2 Installable File System For Windows, but none of them is recognizing the external drive.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a long road trip day after tomorrow, and thankfully, I'm not driving. I own 3 working laptops which I'm bringing with me, along with 2 brothers who enjoy starcraft (1). I've never setup a LAN before, how would I do it? My laptop's dual booting slack and lucid, the other two are vista/karmic and standalone 7. All 3 have cards capable of wireless G and Ethernet ports.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am currently finalizing a SSH Tunnel (gSTM) via Ubuntu Server (see: [URL]). The gentleman who helped me there went above and beyond the call of duty as we used to say in the military. Accordingly, I wanted to start a new thread to explore options to the pending completion. So, several systems in play here. I will list two of the three with the presumption that the SSH situation is in play (testing it today from outside of my network).
Systems Currently in Play: Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop Edition with all updates as of today's post: Server: Acer Aspire AST180-400A. It is currently being accessed from Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop Edition with all updates as of today's post from a laptop: Toshiba Satellite A200. Router: Netgear N300 WNR 2000v2. Modem is Motorola Netopia 2210-02-1006. Proposed System To Add: eMachine ET1331G-05w running Windows 7. Why? Well, my girlfriend is terrified to ditch the Bill Hates way of things. It is running through the router currently as well.
What I would like to be able to do is access the Windows 7 desktop via my laptop on the road as well. Specifically, I need to be able to access and view documents and photos. Now, the docs are at least in OpenOffice; she switched to it finally. I would like to also be able to view my desktop to access docs and pictures on the server, but that may be a new thread as the Win7 situation is the priority right now.
I have a dual boot system. I previously managed to mount that drive under Fedora by specifying its label in /etc/fstab. But something changed that label, so I had to modify the entry in fstab. This time, using blkid I found the proper UUID and put that in /etc/fstab. So now I can mount the partition. But I also want to create a link on my desktop to my files under Windows. The location is /mnt/c/Documents and Settings/len/My Documents But ln -s keeps failing on that because of the spaces in the name. I know I found a workaround that previously , but I can't remember what it is.
View 1 Replies View Relatedso here's my problem. I am trying to install windows xp on my computer in virtual machine so i can watch netflix on my computer. The disk will not start up, if I restart and try to boot from load i just sits there and says boot from cd. The disk drive plays music cd's fine, so i dont really know what the issue is.
I dont know that much aboutut ubuntu. a tech friend put it on hard drive he gave me after mine crashed. also i should ad that i took the disk to someone else's house that haswidnows installed and the disk worked just fine, so its not a disk problem
1. How can I stream music from my ubuntu computer (9.10) to my windows computer using vlc?
2. What nvidia driver should I use? The one found in "hardware drivers" is 185 but nvidia's site has 190! which one should I use?
The Problem was I wanted to open my /home/Pictures folder and have it display the contents of the My Pictures folder in my windows partition. This way I could have ubuntu and xp using the same set of music files, picture files, etc. I was having a very hard time understanding how to get from here to there because I'm such a newbie. However I have discovered how to do it and I wanted to post it, in hopes it will make things easier for other newbies. This allows me to see every TYPE of document in /dev/sda8/Media (windows My Documents folder) without having to see any of the folders (My Music, My Pictures, etc).

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter I downloaded the source for lua, I followed the install instructions, doing...
make linux install
make generic install
I've also done the make test and it passes, printing out Hello World, from Lua 5.1. However, I can't link to the lua libraries in CodeBlocks. I know where lualib.a is (usr/local/lib) which I set in my Search Directories for the linker. I still get error messages like...
undefined reference to lua_isstring
P.S. I had this running on Windows via Visual Studio.
Can anybody explain step by step how to erase windows xp from the computer and how to install Ubuntu?

Is there any solution which automatically creates links in linux home folder, when a user logs into linux he can also view / edit his files in windows home folder.I know to smbmount but there are 500+ users and creating smbmount / smbclient for each would be time consuming also many of the users are dynamic (added / deleted frequently).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd like to have my Linux box (a QNAP TS-210 NAS) send the order to go to sleep (or hibernation) to my main Windows 7 computer. As the NAS is running Linux, I can't use psshutdown from SysInternals' PsTools. Is there any Linux equivalent? Or some "magic packet" that can order the Win7 computer to sleep.I know I could install a SSH daemon and trigger a shutdown command from the Linux box using ssh, but ideally I do not want to install anything on the Win7 computer. I can install Linux software on the NAS, no problem about this. PHP, python and perl are also available on it.

How can I connect usb-piano to my computer?
I recently bought a yamaha KX8 keyboard. It does not, however, have any built in speakers, but must be connected to something in order to play.
It come with a USB cord and some weird windows software, that must be running in order for the keyboard to make any sound. Now that software seems VERY complicated. I merely want to play the "piano" instrument.
I was wandering if there is some kind of SIMPLER software (maybe open source) that will allow me to connect this keyboard to either windows or linux os?
I have a computer running Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit with Gnome and another computer running Windows 7 64-bit. How can I share folders between these? I can use Samba to view my Windows shares, if I specify the IP address by going to the "Connect to Server..." option in the Places menu. Going to "Network" in Nautilus and trying to open "Windows Network" fails because it could not retrieve the share list from the server.
MY question, though, is how can I set up Samba (or some other software) such that my Windows box will be able to see my shared folders? And also, what is the difference between Samba and Samba4 (because both are in the repositories).
i installed ubuntu to multiboot with windows 7 but i don't know how to remove it to where its just windows again you can't delete the partiton ecause grub comes up how do i make it go back to the way it was before i installed ubuntu
