Well, I want to change the "beep" sound of the internal speaker to another sound. I mean to any sound on my external speakers. I've searched about it but I haven't found anything useful.

My problem is that I can only get audio from this speaker, when I plug something into the rear jack stick, the sound still comes out of the internal speaker. I have tried to install alsamixer and unmuted AUX and Line IN, and increased volume to 100%. Sound is working, but only on internal speaker!.
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust installed sid on a new system and I'm having a problem with pulseaudio.I have a motherboard with built-in Realtek audio, and the system should use that for everything except the system bell, which goes through the internal PC speaker that's connected to the motherboard.It works that way on the console. If I type C-g in Emacs, the pc speaker beeps, same with bash completion etc, while aplay will play wav files through the external speakers connected to the sound card. It's perfect.
Now in X, pulse doesn't know what to do. It defaults to the external sound card speakers, so they play all "normal" sounds (like music files) but when I type C-g in Emacs, there's a drip sound that comes out of the speakers. The internal PC speaker doesn't beep at all.I'm using GNOME 3, and I like it, so I can't just purge pulse because it wants to take GNOME with it. If I go to setup > sound, "Line Out - Built-in Audio" is selected, but I have another option for "Analog Output - pcsp" ... that's the snd_pcsp module for the internal speaker. If I select that, it plays the same sound files but through the internal speaker. So when I do C-g in emacs, the beep does come from the internal speaker, but it's not the normal beep you hear in the console -- it's actually the same ogg (or wav or whatever) file that makes the drip sound from the speakers! And worse, if I sleect the pcsp option in setup, it uses the internal speaker for EVERYTHING - including playing audio music files, watching YouTube, whatever! And naturally the sound is very horrible and fuzzy.
Is there any way to tell pulse that I want to use my motherboard's soundcard for everything but the beep, just like in the console?
In the current release of Debian, is there a reason that I can only hear sound through one speaker. With any other distro, the sound can be heard through both.

We have a target board with intel atom processor(COM). OS : Ubuntu 9.04 But I am not able to hear the Internal speaker sound. ->pcspkr driver is present. ->Different tests were conducted inclding echo -e "a" , console-beep package ,writing to the port etc. ->Sound is not heard during system startup also.

Sound works great, but for some reason, I can not disable the internal speaker that sits on the motherboard. meaning, if I play something it comes out from the audio output in the back (its going to amplifier) and also from the friggin internal speaker, a bit annoying...
I've been installing all kind of pulse management tools, can't find how to disable this.

I don't see pcskpr loaded (I guess its not used anymore).

I am having trouble getting my internal speaker to work on openSuSE 11.2. These are the symptoms and my experiences to date. When I boot my machine the internal speaker emits a beep. On my other machines, I get a similar sound when I press Escape in vi (in command mode). It is this beep from the internal speaker that I am having trouble with. Looking around on the web I see that it is reported that the module snd-hda-intel can interfere with the internal speaker. When I unload this module using rmmod, I do get the beep from the internal speaker. When I reload it, the beep does not sound. Some of the reports seem to attribute the problem to a configuration option for the sound module called "digital beep" that needs to be enabled.
Using "make -C O=`pwd` cloneconfig" on my kernel sources, I see that the option CONFIG_SND_HDA_INPUT_BEEP is set to y. Also affected are things like printf ( "a" ) and sending Control-G to "cat" or "cat > /dev/console". what do I need to do get the internal speaker to sound while at the same time retaining the full capabilities of the sound system?
I've got a final revision of the G4 Mac mini, the 1.5GHz model, dual booting 10.04 LTS and OS X. One of the issues I've had is that the internal speaker doesn't work under Linux, or so it's been reported on various post and sites. It turns out it's a simple matter of flipping some ALSA control options. With an ALSA mixer you must enable both the Speaker and the Headphone to get audio to play over the internal speaker. It will still play over the external headphones/speakers if they are still plugged in. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the ALSA, OSS, PCM or snd_powermac drivers or just something setup wonky in the configs. I've used both GNOME ALSA Mixer GUI and the alsamixer command line tool to do this. The alsamixer tool will mostly work in an X-term, as the F-keys don't pass though. It is fully functional on a console login. I also noticed that audio plays back per-user. When I switch from X to a console he sound is cut off, and when I get logged in as the same user the audio comes right back in.

I live in a crowded area so I have to use headphones almost all of the time. I just leave them plugged in so when an alarm goes off from Thunderbird or Evolution, I can't hear it. Is there a way to get some use out of my internal system speaker and have a reliable calendar-event-reminder and alarm? I comes with about a minutes period. I resently find out that it came from the center-speaker. My speaker system is Logitech X-530 I have located the problem to center-speaker, but the snap-sound only disappear if I mute the center, not lower the input, in the GNOME ALSA Mixer. I have tried to disconnect the antenna to the analoge-TV-tuner. Has anyoe a similar problem, and a trick to fix it? I don't know if it's related to any recent update of the system?
I recently updated my computer Using 9.10 and I updated on the 14th. Before the update my sound was working great. No problems, but afterwards my sound is completely gone and under hardware when I click the sound option on the speaker icon I get nothing listed under hardware.

I have an acer timelinex 5830tg notebook. After weeks of frustration, i finally have a linux setup that is stable. Thank god for debian. I don't know why I mess with anything else. Anyway, i'm unable to get my built in laptop speakers to work. I get sound through headphone jack, and I hear sound coming from the built in speakers for a split second when plugging in/unplugging my AC adaptor.Let me know if there is any other output needed, which may assist in this issue. Hopefully someone can help me out.

in fedora 10 things were pretty simpler . all i had to do was double click the volume icon and i could change the volume of each of my speakers individually ...
in fedora 11 that was not possible , this adjustment of volume had become more complicated, however there was this "advanced volume control" or something ... i dont quite remember its name , but thanks to that i could still adjust volume of each of my speakers individually ...
in fedora 12 i m not able to find that application - "advanced volume control" ... how do i adjust the volume of my each of my 5.1 speakers in fedora 12 ?
Everything was fine until I upgraded to the Beta 2, now the sound only comes out of my left headphone speaker and stereo speaker. My sound settings are the same and I have double checked them.Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know how to fix it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI thought the message received sound was too quiet in Empathy 2.32.0.1 and figured out that it was playing the file located here:[URL]...I replaced this file with a more suitable sound file but I have since noticed that the sound is only playing through my right speaker. I don't know if this was happening from the start or if I caused it by changing the sound file.
Playing the sound file manually proves there's no issue with the file as it plays correctly, through both speakers. I have no other sound issues.
This may seem like a stupid question (if not completely ridiculous ), but I was wondering if there's a way to configure audio events so that I can use a wav/ogg sound instead of the PC speaker's default beep for small events like hitting backspace in a text editor when it's the beginning of the document (or any other illegal keyboard action), or in Wine applications when it calls for an "asterisk" sound (it just beeps the PC speaker).
I've looked at similar threads, but they mainly just talk about either the beeps that the machine does when it boots up, or simply turning off the beeping completely. What I want to do is substitute the beeps (that are caused by the OS) for an actual sound that's played through the ALSA/OSS/whatever audio device.
There`s no sound in headphone jack, if I plug a headphone nothing happens, the speaker doesn`t stop. BUT if i boot slack with the headphone plugged the opposite happens, the heaphone works but if i unplug it no sound come out from speakers.

After all that the problem continues the same. I`ve read that the alsa-driver comes with the kernel, so I have to install a knew one to get the last alsa-driver? Or just install like I did works?

So, I've got an Acer 5742G, and the silly thing is only built with one internal speaker. Ubuntu thinks it's my left channel, however Windows 7 'gets it' and plays both channels to that speaker.When I plug in external speakers or headphones, everything works fine.

I tried sending a KDMKTONE via ioctl to /dev/tty0, which returns success but still makes no sound. I have all mixer parameters set to 100%. I can make sound with mplayer, sox, etc. Mr Vojtech Pavlik recommended I try evdev, which I built and loaded. It creates an event for pcspkr in /dev/input. How do I use that to make a sound on my speaker?

I had been using fedora 12 since it release and been working wonderfully. Untill my last 2 update, my Voip softphone like twinkle, ekiga and linphone somehow have no sound out from speaker.
1. i can play all video and music with sound coming out from my laptop inbuilt speaker.
2. for twinkle, ekiga and linphone, there's no sound out from my laptop inbuilt speaker.That means, when i call a person, that person can hear me talking (my mic working good) but when he talk i am unable to hear him as no sound coming out from the speaker.
Note: i had call multiple different people and the result is the same.
I am on Gnome desktop with PusleAudio install and running since the releae of F12.
Just installed Fedora 15, using default options. Sound works through headphone jack but not thru pc speaker. (Machine has no external speakers.) Puzzling, since an identical hardware-wise machine with same /etc/modprobe.d files works fine.

I'm relatively new to Ubuntu, so please forgive me if I seem a little ... After installing Lucid Lynx, I had some sound issues that I've been attacking over the past few days. I've gotten it down to the point where .mp3s and other sound effects play on 2.1, instead of my full 5.1 setup, with the exception of using

Relatedly, I have no volume control icon in my toolbar, and when I go to System --> Preferences --> Sound, an error window pops up that says, "Waiting for Sound System to Respond." One of the left speaker on my macbook 2,1 has no sound. The channel is not muted in alsamixer. If you go into sound preferences and change the card to a surround 4.0. The both the front and rear right speakers work. Front is higher sound (tweeter) rear is the lower sounds. (mid-sub) however on the left side the left front does nothing. to the naked ear you can tell not as much sound is coming out of the left side. one speaker is not functioning. is there a fix for this?
