My ubuntu was working fine till morning but all of a sudden in the evening , its WICD manager stopped detecting my wlan card , because of this it couldn't detect any wireless network.I formatted and installed the fresh copy, but the problem remains the same.Interesting thing is that the same lan card works fine for Win7 OS.Even earlier in ubuntu it was working fine.I have dual boot machine...
View 9 RepliesI am using Ubuntu 8.04 and when I open up my network settings, It shows my ethernet card and my modem but my wireless card doesn't show up. Under "Hardware Drivers" it says that my driver for my wireless card is a "proprietary driver" and that there is no driver I can get for it for Linux. Is there any way that I can get my wireless card to work? I tried going to the HP website and downloading a driver for it, but all of the drivers only work for Windows....

I found that the modules usbserial, option, qcserial were missing. I installed them using "insmod".After that I have removed and reconnected the device. Still the OS is not detecting the device.After the reboot of the machine, again the modules related to USB are missing.

Did I mention I am new to linux and have been working on this problem for a couple of days. My wireless card is 1395 WLAN Mini-Card I think I have the b43 driver installed. I have reinstalled the driver and linux but to no effect.

View 1 Replies View RelatedDecided to have a bit of a clean, and moved the computers out the way (unplugged and stuff) to hoover up and that around the floor, but not the inside of the computers.
Now ive put everything back together, my main pc with linux on doesn't detect the wireless card.
I turned it off, then checked the card hadnt been knocked out. It did appear to be, so i put it back in properly, and it still wont detect the card. (its basically a pcie card with an antenna sticking out the back).
I have loded centos 5 on vertual machine, my host machine is windows xp and has two NIC cards working perfectly well
1) realtek RTL 8139 family PCI fast eathernet NIC
2) realtek 8169/8110 family gigabite ethernet NIC ( ONBOARD)
but both of them are not getting detected by CENTOS
I was here yesterday trying to make my ethernet card(which my rhel 6.0 doesn't detect) works. I initially untar a file that has the driver for my card which i got from atheros. When i tried to run it i.e ./autorun.sh i got the following result:

It is detecting the wireless networks in the surrounding area but it isn't connecting.

I can see it in the hardware listing, and I can attempt to set it up using iwconfig, but when I do an ifconfig it does not show, and when I do a ifconfig wlan0 it tells me the interface is not installed. I feel like I am missing something basic, but just can't seem to put my finger on it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm a new user of Ubuntu and I think I need some help but let me mention before that I got this up working on a Debian system.My current kernel version is $ uname -r 2.6.32-27-generic.The problem is that my wlan card is not working any more such that my system freezes every time I enable networking with the hardware switch on my laptop.Therefore I bought a USB - WLAN stick and try to get this working.
Network Manager has the option "enable wireless" greyed out if I disable the hardware switch.If I enable the hardware switch and remove the module of my wlan CARD before (modprobe -r iwl3945) it says "wireless disconnected" for all networks.
Since the install and original tweaking of F15 the os and pc have been operating flawlessly now for a couple months. Today I slid the Sandisk memory card from my camera in but there is no detection of the stick and no paths in the media link directory. I searched the forum but did not find any post specific to this issue.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wireless card isent detecting my router even though it has detected my 3 of neighbors wifi. the only reason i thought that it may not be able to detect mine is that i use a wpa2 encrption rather then a wep like my neighbors. so i tried to go and reset my router using my other desktop and set it to a wep encryption, but for some reason my computer still did not detect it. i am using a dell dimension comnputer with both a linkseys N gigabit router model number :wrt310n and the reciving card linkseysduel band wireless N network adapter model number :wusb600n. can somebody please tell my what i am doing wrong? this is rather annoying as i have to drag my desktop and moniter out to the living room just to physically connect to my router to enable internet.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 64 bit install of Ubuntu 10.04, I was surfing up to 11:30pm EST last night, shut down for the night, upon reboot am unable to connect to the internet or my local network. Ubuntu seems to think that I have no ethernet cables connected.My networking is controlled by my motherboard (Gigabyte P55A-UD4P) and the problem is not on my cable modems side. The modem has multiple wired jacks, all of them are unresponsive with my Ubuntu PC while my roommate can connect to all of them with his Windows 7 PC. Both network cables (the one connecting to his box and the one connecting to mine) are interchangeable: They both work on his and neither on mine, so there is no broken cable.I've followed the troubleshooting in other posts, here are some commonly requested diagnostics:

Could not connect to wicd's D-Bus interface - Check the wicd log for error messages.
I'v just installed wicd. I can't get it to sart, I get errors saying that wicd couldn't connect to it's dbus interface and the wicd deamon has shut down. Then there's a report from SELinux saying that it's preventing /usr/bin/python "write" access on /etc/dhcp/manager-settings.conf and that access is denied to wicd. I can get wicd to start if I su to root, but I'd like to not have to do that every time I boot. Is there a fix?

I have 2 wlan cards. wlan0 and wlan1. wlan0 is in AP mode(Master mode) using hostap. wlan1 is connected to another wireless network and is in Managed mode. Now I want to make a bridge between wlan0 and wlan1. I do it like that:
ifconfig wlan0 0.0.0.0
ifconfig wlan1 0.0.0.0
brctl addbr mybridge
brctl addif mybridge wlan1
can't add wlan1 to bridge mybridge: Operation not supported
It doesnt work, because wlan1 is in managed mode. But Windows 7 can bridge 2 Wlan cards when one is AP and another one is STA. How to do it in Linux?
I upgraded Ubuntu to 11.04 I can NO longer connect wirelessly using my BCM4312 WLAN Card. It connected with no problems before dist upgrade using Ubuntu 10.04. Im really not sure why I cannot connect. I cannot even see my router in edit wireless connections settings. I can however see my neighbours routers who are using WPA2 encryption. But I cannot see my router.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled The Broadcom STA proprietry wireless driver several times using Additional drivers. This did not fix my issue.
I am connected by ethernet at the moment so I do have internet connection.
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on an old family laptop. It is a Compaq Presario V2000. Everything works perfectly except no wireless networks are recognized, even though I know there are available networks. My network controller is detected but is not doing it's job, which is finding available wireless networks! Using "system testing" I found this out about my network controller:
