Apr 3, 2010I installed the driver for my network card. iwconfig and ifconfig are all responsive to connecting to the network, I'm given an access point address. Then, I try to connect to a website and no dice. ping www.google.com yields no result. What gives?

They use E1000E drivers.One card is working while the other identical card is not. Dec 27, 20101. If you are on a laptop check that the network function key is turned on. Mine is on F12 and has a bluish light for ON and reddish light for OFF.
2. Go to System > Administration > Users and Groups > Advanced Settings > User Privileges Check you have relevant permissions for Connecting to Wireless Networks and the Internet. (Also turned my audio on here after much trial)
I discovered these after spending hours following up suggestions on these forums. They might not solve everyone's problems but they will hopefully save some of you from fruitless searching

Apr 19, 2010I have setup a dual boot machine which has OS of Windows Vista (32 Bit) / RHEL 5. The LAN Card details are - Atheros L2 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base T - Controller. The said Network Card works fine with the ADSL Connection in Windows OS, but does not seem to initialise in Linux. When I run "ifconfig" in terminal window it gives away the prompt - "eth0 no such device exists".Although it shoes the loopback adapter (lo) device working fine. I forgot to mention over here, I have just started with Linux. So, I request "the" Linux Gurus to help me out with this one.

I am new to this and thouroughly confused as to the procedure for installing the drivers if they are in fact available."
I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.

Jan 29, 2011I have a Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5721 network card on my server at work.Everything works fine for a few weeks, then randomly the network connection on the server will stop working. After it stops working, I will try to reconnect with the network manager, it shows a wired connection available, it shows the "connection in progress"animation, then the "connection disabled" icon.
I uninstalled the network manager and used manual configuration, but do you think the network manager was the issue? I can't have the server disconnecting randomly every few weeks with no way to know what the real problem is. Was there an issue with the network manager with 10.04?

Now every time I boot Win XP, the Internet Explorer menu bar is all blacked out and goofy. If I log out and back in it corrects itself. If I reboot it's blacked out again. Re-installed IE8. Still blacks out.Also Firefox in Win XP crashes expectantly. It has NEVER crashed on me previously.
