I'd like to add another network card to my linux box. I've plugged in the hardware and rebooted, but I do not see a second network config file under network-scripts. Also, if I hit ifconfig -a, I only see one network listing. How do I proceed?
View 3 RepliesI've switched to a new motherboard, an Asus P6T SE one, and now I don't have any cable connections in Networkmanager anymore.
I see the new card when I run "ifconfig", it's called "eth2", but I have no idea where to go from here without messing up networkmanager.
I've been searching all over trying to figure out how to get my Slackware box to detect my 2 PCMCIA wired nics. Specs are:
Dell Latitude CPi (old, I know...)
Compaq 10/100 PC Card (series NNB108)
Xircom "Credit Card" Ethernet 10/100+ and Modem 56 (model: CEM56-100.
Slackware 11 (kernel 2.6.21.5)
Both cards work under Ubuntu 9.04 on the same hardware so I know they are both working and linux compatible.
Checking the /var/log/messages file I see entries when I insert or remove the card. States that a PCMCIA card has been added/removed however other than the /messages log entry there is no other activity that I notice. No lights on the NIC card dongles either. Most of the reading I've done on the net indicate that there should be a /etc/pcmcia/network.opts file but I don't even have the /etc/pcmcia directory. Sure would appreciate some guidance on where to go or what to do to get these two PCMCIA nics up and running.
I installed the driver for my network card. iwconfig and ifconfig are all responsive to connecting to the network, I'm given an access point address. Then, I try to connect to a website and no dice. ping www.google.com yields no result. What gives?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 64 bit computer with a 64 bit distribution of Ubuntu. The driver for the onboard video card wasn't supported beyond 8.04, so I didn't upgrade. Yesterday, I bought a NVIDIA GeForce 210 video card. I installed it and Ubuntu detected it and worked, but the resolution was limited to 640x480 (I think). I figured this would be corrected by updating, so I updated to 9.04. When I had to restart, the option to select which OS (Linux or Win) came up, I selected 9.04, and the ubuntu symbol came on. The status bar went to the end and the screen turned black, flickered 5 times, turned black and stopped progressing. The xorg.conf file is:

They use E1000E drivers.One card is working while the other identical card is not. Linux can see all 8 ports are visible with dmesg | grep pcie.I suspect the drivers on the second card have not been loaded. How would I load the drivers?

1. If you are on a laptop check that the network function key is turned on. Mine is on F12 and has a bluish light for ON and reddish light for OFF.
2. Go to System > Administration > Users and Groups > Advanced Settings > User Privileges Check you have relevant permissions for Connecting to Wireless Networks and the Internet. (Also turned my audio on here after much trial)

I have setup a dual boot machine which has OS of Windows Vista (32 Bit) / RHEL 5. The LAN Card details are - Atheros L2 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base T - Controller. The said Network Card works fine with the ADSL Connection in Windows OS, but does not seem to initialise in Linux. When I run "ifconfig" in terminal window it gives away the prompt - "eth0 no such device exists".Although it shoes the loopback adapter (lo) device working fine. I forgot to mention over here, I have just started with Linux. So, I request "the" Linux Gurus to help me out with this one.

Exactly what I am trying to do: Existing network is as follows: Comcast internet to cable modem to Belkin N Wireless Router Model F5D 8236-4 v3. That router is wired to one desktop (running Windows XP)and has 4 wifi notebooks (two running Windows 7 and two running Mint 9 Isadora) and two Wii consoles running off of it. I am seeking to add another desktop to the network in another room without having to drill some holes and run about 40 feet of cable. Seems like it shouldn't take much to get the two routers to "talk" to each other so I can do this. The router I am trying to hook to it is either a Belkin F5D 9230-4 wireless router or a NetGear N150 WNR1000 v2 Wireless router.
how can I go about adding an additional lo interface, like lo:0? I need to create this interface, give it an IP and set it to not arp, so this box can be behind a load balancer. Just copying ifcfg-lo and changing the requisite attributes did not work, got an error saying "Interface lo:0 is not available".

The post was as follows: "I am using a new computer with Windows 7 , Athlon quad core 2.60 64 bit, 8GB RAM. Internet conection works fine with ethernet but ubuntu does not see my wireless network. card (RealTek RTL 8190 ID: 10ec:8190). Have searched this forum but unable to come up with a fix. I was looking for windows XP drivers to use Ndiswrapper but could not find a list of .inf files. My network is OK and works perfectly in windows and with my 2 laptops. I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.
I've installed the Ubuntu 10.04 Server onto a PPC G4 Mac just for the experience of setting up a server. During the installation process Ubuntu couldn't auto-configure my DHCP Network.
