How do you set the MTU on the network card for Jumbo Frames? The MTU drop drown only goes to 1500 which is far from the Jumbo frame rate of 9000. If I type 9000 in will it blow anything up?
View 5 RepliesI was able to build a NFS server and a NFS client using OpenSuse 11.3 and connect them together using gigabit ethernet through a switch. These are the only 2 devices on this net (192.168.1.xx). I tried to set the MTU to 9000 and 9014 but learned that the Realtek 8169/8111 only support up to about 7200 MTU. So I inserted Intel NIC cards on both and set both to 9000. The system accepts this and I can ssh from one machine to the other. Both NFS client and server start w/o issue and the client mounts the device just fine. But when I try to copy a file on the NFS client from the local disk to the server, the client just hangs and I have to physically turn the machine off in order to get it to work. Both systems are using the stock software from the DVD (I didn't update either).

View 1 Replies View RelatedWith Mellanox 10G NICs and the MTUs set from 1600 to 9000 we have tcp sessions hanging. Executing ls during an sftp session just hangs. The same thing happens for an ssh session, if execute ls I might get few item in the directory but then the session hangs. Like wise for FTP. The Fujitsu switch is configured by default to handle jumbo frames. At 1500 MTU everything works fine. We are running the 2.6.25.14 kernel with CentOS 5.2 and the Mellanox driver.

The card I have now - Trendnet TEG_PCITXR - says it supports jumbo frames but it turns out the MTU is 7200 bytes. Yeah this is more than 1500, but it seems like a bit of a scam to me. Since it is nearly impossible to find these specs on product info pages, I was hoping someone could recommend a network card that is proven to support 9000 (or greater) MTU. Some more info, I am running Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-19

I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5721 network card on my server at work.Everything works fine for a few weeks, then randomly the network connection on the server will stop working. After it stops working, I will try to reconnect with the network manager, it shows a wired connection available, it shows the "connection in progress"animation, then the "connection disabled" icon.
I uninstalled the network manager and used manual configuration, but do you think the network manager was the issue? I can't have the server disconnecting randomly every few weeks with no way to know what the real problem is. Was there an issue with the network manager with 10.04?
On Linux Mint (Gnome) i used to go to Network drive. that is on the right hand side of Nautilus there is a short cut for Network. in there i could see my network hard drive and other laptops connected to the network, and i could access my files. but on OpenSuse, when i open the network folder, nothing comes up. may be it needs some sort of configuration.

I have a dwa-125 dlink wireless card which will not work. This is my first time using OpenSuse 11.2 (Well OpenSuse period). I had the same problem with Ubuntu 9.10 as well. I got the broadcom-wl drivers from Packman and installed those and it still was a no go. I tried to get the drivers straight from Broadcom and those didn't work. I couldn't compile the source code from the Brodcom site because i could not get build installed (got make installed but build just didn't install.)

So decided to try a fresh install as ubuntu was having issues every update for me. Regardless i can't seem to get my wireless working and i'd really appreciate some help as i have no idea what i'm doing.
Using a hp pavilion dv5 1235dx.So my network card does show up it's a broadcom 4312 pci id 4315.Installed the b43 & wl drivers but it didn't help. The hardware switch is stuck at orange but in ubuntu it would function despite this(sometimes ).
I have Onboard Realtek ethernet card (eth0) it worked fine but suddenly it stopped working when i see in yast it shows hwinfo not found. when i use hwinfo --netcard it gives realtek card name thats all. I went to yast >lan> edit> hardware and tried to add r8169 module but it was not accepting. previously created ifcfg-eth0 file is available but its not getting up.when i say ifup eth0 it say interface not found. the same messg is also available in /var/log/boot.msg.

I have a strange problem. An old PC is my home server. On the PC I had in the long past 2 NICs. For the last year or so, I had only one NIC installed, a Compex with 8139too module which run just fine. After the upgrade to 11.4, 32bit of course, with zypper dup, I saw that I had no internet and no network connection to the server. So, I logged on the server and found that rcnetwork could not start the eth0 and eth3(!). OK, a mistake I thought. Enter Yast and solve it. Unfortunately, yast reports 2 cards! I removed all of them, rebooted but nothing. lspci reports 2 cards, while I have NONE installed on the motherboard!hwinfo --netcard the same! yast the same! So, the OS "knows" that I have 2 NICs, while I definitely have none!
Checked if /etc/udev/rules.d/70- had any left data from the past, but the file was empty. Checked the /etc/sysconfig/network/scripts nothing again.In principle, the openSUSE 11.4 believes that I have 2 cards (and with wrong MACs, obviously) and I cannot make it rescan the PCI bus to find that I have nothing! I am sure that some garbages are left somewhere but I don't know where to look at. it is very critical to have that server but on-line and in my LAN.

Well this my first time working with linux and openSUSE, and I love it. But one problem I can't overcome is my network card is not working. I went to bestbuy and bought the dynex enchanced wireless G card.

I installed wine to run the .exe but that did nothing and gave me that the dll is not registered. openSUSE detects that the card is plugged in but the card does not light up or activate in anyway. The only way I can connect to the net is through an Ethernet cable.
So the only experience I have with Linux is all from Ubuntu, and I just spontaneously decided that I needed a change...two days later my triple boot Macbook Pro got slimmed down to a dual boot OSX/OpenSUSE 11.2 machine. But there are some general problems, and I have absolutely no idea how to solve them. First, wireless isn't recognized at all...there isn't even a space for wireless connections. Second, I haven't been able to get compiz to work yet, and I can only suspect that the system doesn't recognize my video card, or the driver isn't installed. Yet again, no idea how to fix this.
