OpenSUSE Network :: Adding An Addition Lo Interface?
Sep 3, 2010
how can I go about adding an additional lo interface, like lo:0? I need to create this interface, give it an IP and set it to not arp, so this box can be behind a load balancer. Just copying ifcfg-lo and changing the requisite attributes did not work, got an error saying "Interface lo:0 is not available".
Just curious, because it seems my wireless connection works regardless of whether or not the MAC address is listed there. I'm just curious why that option is there to add it if it works regardless.
Last night while setting up wired & wireless connection in openSuse 11.2 Gnome version via YAST's ifup, I got wireless but lost wired connection (interface eth0). Dmesg shows that eth0 became eth1. I cannot get eth0 back. Is there any way to remedy this situation, eg. get info from the Ubuntu partition in my triple-boot laptop, without having to re-install openSUSE?
I am trying to network a drive which is a USB drive. The directory is /media/My Book and I am at a loss on how to network it properly. From my laptop that has linux mint, I click on network and I see SFTP File Transfer on linux-8m03 but it can never seem to mount.
I've installed opensuse 11.2 and want to install some more packages. If I have the online repos enabled the package eclipse is found in Index of /distribution/11.2/repo/oss If I disable the online repos the packages are not found on the dvd. i have now searched the dvd and eclipse is not available. What is wrong? Why eclipse is not on dvd? Is there an extra dvd as I read only non oss stuff is on other dvd nad language special stuff..
I have a little problem with my Linux Suse 11.2 Server. I have unused network card with one port, and one with 4 ports and two used ports.
so-> eth1 is connected to a dsl-modem eth2 is connected to a switch
i want my suse server to route between modem and switch.
Somehow, I can't go in the internet via eth1. I have to create a bridge br0 to go in the internet. very strange, when i delete the bridge and set eth1 as primary device, i have no internet.
How can i route from eth2 (10.x.x.x) to (eth1 or br0 (80.109.145.x) to Modem (80.109.145.1)?
In previous releases 11.2 and lower it was possible to load the dummy network module using modprobe dummy0. But this module is not available for 11.3. So how to setup a dummy network interface?
There is a cable plugged in to the second network card, but that interface is not configured. I'm getting a lotof "martian source" alerts because of this.If the interface eth1 isn't started because it isn't configured, why am I getting these messages?
I have 2 laptop with opensuse 11.2. One of them is connected to the Internet through a Mobile Connection with a CDMA/EDVO modem on the usb port. I want to share the Internet connection with the other laptop through the WiFi interface of each of them. How should I proceed?
Setup : internet -- VirtualBoxHost -- WIFI-switch -- clients VirtualBoxHost hosts several Virtual Machines and has 2 interfaces. Wan-interface is not used by VirtualBoxHost, but is directly mapped to the Virtual Machine Endian Firewall.
What I want: Access to VM's for the Wifi-clients AND access from WiFi-clients to VirtualBoxHost.
What I have tried: - create bridge - add LAN-interface to bridge - create tap0 - add tap0 to bridge
Virtual Machine uses tap0 Wifi-clients are connected via LAN-interface, via bridge, to VM's. But my host-machine is not accessible from a WLAN-client and also I can not access a VirtualMachine from my host-machine. A WLAN-client can connect to a VirtualMachine without problem. I think with my bridge the local LAN and the VM's are now connected. How to put also my host-machine in the LAN? As a LAN-client.
I have a work desktop plugged into the work network. As I opened my firewall settings I noticed that it is turned off. My question is how should I configure it? I saw that the interface isn't assigned to any zone... I should assign to internal zone and open some port that I need in order to work? There are some guidelines for configuring the firewall?
Where can I find set up information in order to share internet between my Ipod touch and my laptop? Laptop is connected to cable modem and has wifi interface (so no wireless router).
I have installed open suse 11.4, gnome but no luck with wireless settings so far. kernel version is iwl3945 here is stuff that i did but it says "scan is deprecated"
linux-1f6k:/home/rajbanul # dmesg | grep firmware [ 7.249018] tg3 0000:18:00.0: vpd r/w failed. This is likely a firmware bug on this device. Contact the card vendor for a firmware update.
I found multiple sites explaining how to add IPs to a network interface as virtual interface like eth0:0. However I can add IPs to an interface as well using the ip command: ip a a 192.168.2.2/24 dev eth0 What I want to know is how I can make this persistent on rhel/centos.
I have a network config as follows: X.8 <---> X.41 X.40 <--->X.16 where X.8 and X.16 are 2 separate workstations and X.40/X.41 are two interface cards in the same machine. Now I apply brctl bridging in the X.40/X.41 machine by adding both the interfaces to the bridge and thereby connecting X.8 and X.16. This part is working perfect. But there is no connectivity between X.8 and X.41 and when I try to ping at X.8 to X.41 it gives Destination Host Unreachable. Is there a way to achieve this since I require some message to be sent from X.8 to the X.40/X.41 bridge machine.
I have a laptop running 11.2 with an internal Broadcom-based Wi-Fi card that's working fine. I'm trying to get 802.11n going with the WUSB600N. The USB ID on this device is 1737:0079. I believe this means it's a "V2" with an RT3572 chip.
No driver loads for this device when it's plugged in. If I do a "modprobe rt2870sta", a driver loads, and syslog shows "rtusb init" and "usbcore: registered new interface driver rt2870". But ifconfig -a doesn't show a new network interface. I've also tried building the RT3572 driver from the manufacturer's web site. It builds fine, and modprobe will load it, but I get the same results as the rt2870sta driver.
My Lenovo laptop has an Intel Pro 4965 Wifi adapter, here is the "lspci" detection:
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)
So installed the needed "firmware-iwlwifi" kernel module, which is a correct kernel module for this adapter.
Then "modprobe -a iwlwifi"........no complaints !
However, #iwconfig wlan0 wlan0 No such device and # lsmod |grep iwlwifi iwlwifi 87219 0 cfg80211 350041 4 iwl4965,iwlwifi,iwlegacy,mac80211
The wired ethernet is working fine ifconfig -a eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1e:37:82:ac:72 inet addr:192.168.1.16 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::21e:37ff:fe82:ac72/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
[Code] ....
when I go to "Preferences" "Network Connection" ' "Add" "WI-FI" "Create" "Device MAC Address " box is empty.......no Wi-Fi adapter detected !!!
I have problems with my USB driver. After adding my device (MSP430 USB-DEBUG-INTERFACE) it doesn't work.

I am totally new to Linux and have just installed ubuntu 10.10. After configuring the network interface via dhcp I started getting these messages that come in so frequently I can't configure anything else.
[87.186415] Stack:
Why I am getting this messages and more importantly how do I get rid of them.
today I tried to configure a network route to a host for testing my network interface. Code: route add 192.168.1.15 eth0 As I have to eth interfaces and both interface got their IP from DHCP (192.168.1.11 and 192.168.1.12) and are in the same subnet, I shut the other interface down:
Code: ifconfig eth1 down Then I tried to test the interface by doing a ping to 192.168.1.15. Problem: When I unplug the cable from eth0 (and eth1 is still plugged) the ping still works. Somehow my linux (it's debian) powers up again eth0 and pings over this port.
How can I stop my linux doing this. I just want to have the route added only on the one interface - not the other. Is it maybe some case of a default-gateway?
Config: Squeeze, 2.6.32-5-amd64I just installed squeeze and the network is up and nm-manager deamon if working but the Gnome applet doesn't seem to work as usual. It indicates no network although the network is available as indicated by ifconfig and route below. When I switch WiFi on, the nm works flawlessly. When I click on the applet icon it says "Wired Network: device not supported" (or similar, msg in french is
I have a laptop connected to the the net thru an adsl modem, when I switch off the laptop network interface,(thru system-config-network) the light of the laptop network card plugged in the router stays on ( green) where as in my pc, when i do the same thing , the light of my pc network card goes off in the modem
There are many time zone files accessible from the command line that don'thow up in the GUI ("system-config-time"). How do I add these time zones to the GUI
I have two HDs onboard (150GB each) one is running the desktop version. Possible to load up the server addition onto the other HD? Would like to learn the server version, but not sure this is possible or will cause issues.
I'm planing a completly new install of my machine to get rid of things from version 8.04 and older. But, is there a way to figure out which packages I've installed in addition to the CD?
