This is something weird, I installed Xsane with Xsane-gimp but its not starting. It shows its doing something but it simply quits. Here is the error that I get while starting it from console

It was alot about the printer, but not very much about scanning. It was also a previous installation and version of FedoraKDE. Now, I would like to take a moment to ask how to get Xsane up and running so that I can scan with my printer. I have it installed using $yum. However, the icon has not appeared anywhere and I am stumped.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI've been scanning in large numbers of old photos for a friend, and up until now, xsane has worked like a charm. Today, however, it's spitting at me. If I try to select a file path in advance, and just save the images, it fails, suggesting that a link exists. (No, I'm putting them directly into the directory in question; no links involved.) I have to bring up the image in the viewer, select Save and select the path for each and every photo involved. Not only that, if I try using the file selection box to show xsane where I want things stored, it doesn't put the path into the box; I have to type it in myself. Considering that I have the best part of a hundred photos to scan, this isn't exactly an option. Does anybody have an idea what's gotten mungged, or how to unmung it?

I had some directions given to me in this forum, and I tried to follow them, but when I went into the man page as directed by one of the terminal commands, the directions there were cryptic. No success with changing permissions for sane-find-scanner in the file where permissions are supposed to reside. View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got a SCSI scanner that is being detected by the kernel on Fedora 14, but XSane does not see it. If I run "sane-find-scanner" it says that noSCSI or USB scanners are found.The scanner is a Cacham Splendeur 3024, model VM3552. I believe this scanner is the same as the Relisys Scorpio VM3552. In /var/log/messages, the following entries show up as soon as the scanner is warmed up:

The printer of my multi Epson CX5600 works fine, but when I run xsane I get the "No devices available" window. I tried running it as root with the same result. I have installed "iscan-firmware-2.1.1-1.fc12 (noarch) but it still wont work.h kernel 2.6.33.6-147.fc13.i686.

I cant scan in 1200 dpi resolution with xsane, it only shows (75,150,300, 600) range of scanning.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using Ubuntu 9.10 'in anger' for a couple of weeks now and overall I'm impressed. However, a couple of days ago my old Epson C46 (which had been working fine under Karmic) died, and I had a look for a replacement.
I decided on a Canon MP270 because Canon seemed to have gone to the trouble of providing Linux drivers on their website. I even phoned Canon and they confirmed it should work fine.
Today the AIO arrived and I downloaded the printer and scanner drivers from Canon. I could't get the install.sh files to run - tried ./ sudo and sh etc, no joy. Anyway, I used the package manager to install the .deb files and that seemed to go OK.
The printing side of things works fine but I can't get the scanner recognized by Xsane.......
How would I change the permissions for a specific program(xsane)? For some reason Xsane only works now if I run as root. It was working fine before the latest kernel update, now I get "cannot start scanner: invalid argument" unless I run the program as root. Also images that are scanned are nor accessible unless I am root

When ever I try to save a scanned image with Xsane i get the following message:

No such file or directory.
I have tried several different directories and file names with the same resut.
Got a problem here with my xsane scanner. my printer is HP Officejet 6500 wireless. when i run xsane when i have a document to scan it says error: failed to open device 'hpaio:net/officejet_6500_E7009n?ip192.168.1.20':error during device I/O.howcan i use again my scanner?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the 64 bit 13.0 version installed. I have an hp f4440 all-in-one printer installed and connected via usb. I downloaded and installed the new hplip 3.9.12 after removing the older hplip 3.9.4 version. I used CUPS to install and setup the printer. No problems, I let it search and it found the printer right away. When I ran XSane it could not find the device. I clicked help and it gave some steps. The first being to try as root. I opened a root terminal and entered xsane, it found and opened after a warning about running it as root. I checked and my user name and root are entered in the scan group.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently installed 11.4 32bits, and got everything working, including my Canon Lide25 Scanner with XSane. It suddenly stopped working, not seing the device anymore; I suspect it happened after installing VirtualBox, butreally not sure of that.
Basically, as root I can launch Xsane and scan, and Yast also sees the Scanner and the test is succesful, so a permission issue I believe.As I don't know exactly when/why this happened, does anyone know how I could troubleshoot ? I can't figure out how to specify a particular scan size in xsane. The only place I can find to change size is in preview, where there is a drop down list of choices including letter port. How do I specify an arbitrary size in inches?

I use XSane a lot and have been eliminating tons of paper from my office..Sometimes I have to scan a legal size page. I then save as a pdf file. That pdf file shows blank pages in acroread but works in Document Viewer. Can I modify the PDF file so that acroread will display it?

With Lucid I was capable of scanning both with my Epson Perfection 640 U scanner and with my HP-M1120n-MFP network scanner. To get the HP-M1120n to work I had to rename a file which I do not remenber which was. I do not remember where I found the instructions. I am running HPLIP 3.10.6 with Device Manager 15.0. I did a fresh install of Maverick Beta and I am not able to neither scan with the Epson Perfection scanner nor with the M1120n-MFP. As said, both worked with Lucid. As said I had to rename a file to get the MFP scanner to work. I include screen shots to this post.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThe scanner is seen using lsusb command but when i open xsane it is not recognized. Xsane wants to use the webcam instead. I think this happened because i saved the settings of the former scanner a few days ago. Should i delete that setting that is saved in the home>.sane>.xsane directory? The old scanner is a Canon Canoscan lide N1220U and the new one is a Canon Canoscan lide 100. I would appreciate any suggestions as i tried a reboot with no improvement :0)

Now I know Xsane is wonderful, but often I want to use Epson's iscan instead, and for other users I prefer Simple Scan. Another thread would be a good place to discuss the reasons.
So I would like to stop my scanner launching anything when switched on.
I have used XSANE for scanning for several years, and it has recently been giving me trouble. It resizes when I copy, and it resizes when I scan into a multipage pdf. It's not drastic, an 8.5 x 11 page gets shrunk down to about 7.5 x 10. I've installed the Gnome scanning utility to get by, but the resolution just isn't as great. I went into Synaptic and marked all the XSane packages for reinstallation and reinstalled them. However, my contrast / gamma settings remained the same, and, as you might guess, whatever is shrinking my output remained the same also.

I purged all drivers/packages and tried a manual install using each deb package, but ran into some permission errors, so I purged again. I also purged xsane and reinstalled it, then did a complete printer reinstall using the brother Driver Install Tool.The tool works great, full functionality for the MFC-J4420DW. But I know I can't live with the power drain, and I would really prefer to use Gimp and the xsane plugin rather than simple scan ..
