Fedora :: Yum Install Xsane Gives Version With No Gimp Support
Dec 14, 2009
In FC11 i686, I notice that after yum install xsane xsane -v reports a version of xsane that is compiled without Gimp support. Is there a special name for the xsane package that does have Gimp support?
This is something weird, I installed Xsane with Xsane-gimp but its not starting. It shows its doing something but it simply quits. Here is the error that I get while starting it from console
Code: xsane: error while loading shared libraries: libsane.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I have a new hp photosmart c4780 printer, and it's not working with gimp (which is the REASON i upgraded from fedora 10 to 12). I upgraded to 12 after i bought it a few weeks ago, and still can't scan from it. I have sane, and xsane installed
I want to reduce "Open Gimp, File>>Create>>XSane>>[my_scanner]" into a command-line ... line of command. XD So I can bind it to a key combo with Compiz-config. I just don't know how to find the commands to make Gimp and XSane do that.
I'm trying to compile a plugin for gimp to support CMYK instead of RGB.I'm stuck at:
Code: [roel@laptop separate+-0.5.7]$ make gcc -g separate-core.o separate-gui.o separate-export.o util.o tiff.o psd.o jpeg.o iccbutton.o -o separate `pkg-config gimp-2.0 --libs` `pkg-config gimpui-2.0 --libs` `pkg-config gtk+-2.0 --libs` `pkg-config lcms --libs` -ltiff -ljpeg /usr/bin/ld: psd.o: undefined reference to symbol 'ceil@@GLIBC_2.2.5' /usr/bin/ld: note: 'ceil@@GLIBC_2.2.5' is defined in DSO /lib64/libm.so.6 so try adding it to the linker command line
anyone know if the scanner is supported lucid 10.04.2.it is downloading updates now hp-setup does not work on it.Bus 003 Device 004: ID 03f0:8711 Hewlett-Packard scanimage -L did not find it
It is a simple 2D RPG game. I have this great idea to use static backgrounds and foregrounds. To do this I plan to create another layer that will serve as the collision mask, and cover area where the player cannot move to. I have been trying to find a good format to do this, I want something simple because I plan to write my own library to read the format, it seems that most vector graphics formats are simple enough for that, so its not a huge issue, and not all the information is necessary, for my application, since it will not be visible, no color information is needed. However, there are not that many formats available, and they all seem to be XML based (I don't care for XML), but in the end, I settled on SVG. I wanted something I could create in GIMP, if these masks are too hard to create, I may never finish this project (laziness)... However, I discovered that my version of GIMP will not save as/export to SVG format! It will open SVG, but not export to SVG. Very frustrating. So I went through all the trouble of compiling GIMP 2.7, but that still doesn't support SVG. I made sure to install all libsvg-dev headers before building GIMP 2.7. What can I do to get GIMP to support exporting to SVG format OR is there another SIMPLE vector graphics format that GIMP supports that I could be using?
A few hours ago one of my sites posted a new gimp version for Linux but i don't want bz2 files i want deb/ppa anyone know where i can one of those things?
I have 2.47 installed and I want to upgrade to the newest version 2.67 yet when I try to upgrade, I am being told that I have the latest version. Is 2.47 the latest version in debian?
I have read all the HOW TO's on the forum but don't have find this error: ATI Technologies Linux Driver Installer/Packager which: no XFree86 in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/home/tb/bin)
Error: ./default_policy.sh does not support version default:v2:x86_64:lib::none:2.6.38.8-35.fc15.x86_64; make sure that the version is being correctly set by --iscurrentdistro Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install.yUVIkk
it's the catalyst for Radeon X700 downloaded directly from the official site of ATI. I have find on the HOW O's that the card older than the HD - series were not supported but why I can download this catalyst for the X700 on the official site if it isn't supperted? Here is also the lspci:
If you had Gimp 2.6 (with gimp-plugin-registry installed) and installed Gimp 2.7 to try its new goodies, but Layer Effects are not showing, and when executing "gimp" from console you get these *nasty* errors:
Code: This is a development version of GIMP. Debug messages may appear here. gimp-user-install: migrating from /home/user/.gimp-2.6 Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/layerfx.py", line 23, in <module> import gimp, gimpplugin, math ImportError: No module named gimp .....
If you haven't install the 2.7 version yet. Before upgrading, backup "python" directory and then just restore it after installing 2.7.
I've made several attempts to install GIMP 2.7 (by compiling) to get layer group functionality, but the results were too buggy and I'd like to go back to 2.6. I installed gimp 2.6 again via apt-get, but it won't load, giving the error:
Code: Libgimp version mismatch! The GIMP binary cannot run with a libgimp version
Some of you may have had with issues after installing GIMP on Lucid Lynx 10.04. Which may be directly related to "gimp-help-en", which could prevent you from installing other applications and preforming system tasks. If so, use this method to fix it.
Process: (Terminal > $ sudo apt-get install gimp)
1. After installing Gimp go to the terminal:
2. Then load up the language support application:
3. Then it will ask you to install the "gimp-help-en", confirm it.
4. Fix'd
I think this issue is directly linked to a systems with multiple languages, but I haven't been able to test this theory out yet.
I started a thread that just brushed on the topic of running Xsane to scan with my HP c6380. However, the subject did not go very deep. It was alot about the printer, but not very much about scanning. It was also a previous installation and version of FedoraKDE. Now, I would like to take a moment to ask how to get Xsane up and running so that I can scan with my printer. I have it installed using $yum. However, the icon has not appeared anywhere and I am stumped.
I just upgraded from Lucid to Maverick and I absolutely cannot get the proprietary fglrx driver to install. I've downloaded the binaries from ATI and they fail to install with a message that says:
Code: Error: ./default_policy.sh does not support version default:v2:i686:lib::none:2.6.35-22-generic:; make sure that the version is being correctly set by --iscurrentdistro Removing temporary directory: fglrx-install.Dtv3Sn I tried installing the drivers from the System>Administration>Additional Drivers and it fails with
SystemError: installArchives() failed Based on what little I could find I guess the newest version of Xorg broke the ATI drivers. Is this true and is there absolutely no way to use the proprietary drivers? I'm a World of Warcraft nerd and the fglrx drivers are the only ones that work for me
How to install or enable freetype support in php version 5.2.2. I already installed gd support in php. I using RHEL4. I not able reinstall or recompile in my server.

I am trying to implement a chroot directory for a group of sftp users who all manage a shared directory. The relevant portion of my sshd_config file is below:
[Code].....
this is the latest yum reports as available. according to the error is would seem both 'Match' and 'ForceCommand' statements are not supported in this version of ssh? Do I have any options aside from installing from tarball from openssh.org? If I do that would that mean I could not use yum to maintain ssh on my system anymore? Not sure what to do, I have to chroot this group of users, I can't just chroot at the global config level because I need to still be able to ssh as my admin user to this box to administer it. I need the chroot'ing only for sftp purposes.
We will be installing some ibm software on our 2 Quad Core Intel server and ibm lists the OS requirements as RHEL 5 Advanced Platform Update 3 but we have the licenses for RHEL 5.3 (non AP). The question is, since we are not planning for any type of virtualisation and will have a single instance of OS installation, is there any reason (OS level) for the products being not supported on base version?
(I am also checking with IBM but would also appreciate some input from Red Hat as well) In other words, are there any hard dependencies or differences between AP and base versions other than virtualisation support?I just read that base version support only up to 2 CPUs. Does this include the Cores or it is just physical CPU sockets number (i.e will 2 CPUs with 4 core each still be supported).
I've been scanning in large numbers of old photos for a friend, and up until now, xsane has worked like a charm. Today, however, it's spitting at me. If I try to select a file path in advance, and just save the images, it fails, suggesting that a link exists. (No, I'm putting them directly into the directory in question; no links involved.) I have to bring up the image in the viewer, select Save and select the path for each and every photo involved. Not only that, if I try using the file selection box to show xsane where I want things stored, it doesn't put the path into the box; I have to type it in myself. Considering that I have the best part of a hundred photos to scan, this isn't exactly an option. Does anybody have an idea what's gotten mungged, or how to unmung it?
I installed HPLIP, CUPS, ran hp-setup, and have a scanner detected in root, but not as standard user. I had some directions given to me in this forum, and I tried to follow them, but when I went into the man page as directed by one of the terminal commands, the directions there were cryptic. No success with changing permissions for sane-find-scanner in the file where permissions are supposed to reside. Started looking around down there at a couple of files and all I saw was garbage. how to change permissions for sane-find-scanner
I have the HD4850 and, I wanted to know if it is possible to use the CLI to see which version of OpenGL is the latest version I can use according to my driver. If it's not possible via the CLI then, what's the next best way? (I can't find a website for the radeon driver listing the latest OpenGL support per supported card).
I've been trying to install gd with png support. libpng is installed on my server, but for some reason the png.h file isn't anywhere to be found. So, I can't install gd with png support. I'm a linux dummy, so I'm not sure what I need to do to get the headers installed. I did manage to find libpng rpm. I don't know how to make it install headers.
I've got a SCSI scanner that is being detected by the kernel on Fedora 14, but XSane does not see it. If I run "sane-find-scanner" it says that noSCSI or USB scanners are found. The scanner is a Cacham Splendeur 3024, model VM3552. I believe this scanner is the same as the Relisys Scorpio VM3552. In /var/log/messages, the following entries show up as soon as the scanner is warmed up:
Code: Mar 11 13:34:45 dt kernel: [22595.116042] usb 4-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 41
I am on 10.10 using Gnome 2. When I go to install GIMP via Terminal, SPM or USC I get an error about not being able to install libpoppler-glib4. Odd thing is I have the updated version.
