Problem: xsane recognizes my scanner, but when I try to "Acquire Preview" or scan it doesn't do anything. It's like it can't communicate with the scanner. It waits till I click cancel.Sane is setup correctly - I tried skanlite and it works just fine
Recently xsane has stopped detecting my MFP (HP Deskjet F2280). My setup has not had any hardware changes and the only software changes in that time have been the periodic Synaptic updates. Before this hiccup all had been well for over a year. If I run xsane it thinks a while (10 sec?) and tells me in a little panel no devices were detected. If I run lsusb, it finds the device, but after all it is a printer/scanner and the printing function continues to be OK so this is not a surprise.
I do not know enough to understand all the lsusb output to know if anything is amiss in the detail. What is it that xsane needs so that it detects the device as a scanner? Is there a file or specific stuff in a file which I could get from an old backup or edit (carefully!) by hand? I don't need the scanning function often enough to pin down what might have done the mischief.
This is something weird, I installed Xsane with Xsane-gimp but its not starting. It shows its doing something but it simply quits. Here is the error that I get while starting it from console
Code: xsane: error while loading shared libraries: libsane.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I am new to Opensuse, I used Fedora for more than a year and installed OS 11.4 64bit to experience the awesome KDE that Opensuse offers. I added KDE 4.6 Stable: Index of /repositories/KDE:/Release:/46/openSUSE_11.4/x86_64 It worked fine since the install(I installed 11.4 this Saturday), suddenly yesterday I don't remember what I did, KDE stopped working. What happens is I login using kdm, then all the stuff loads up but when I try to open anything the whole KDE freezes. If I clicked the launcher on bottom bar it opens only at the beginning, then if I press anything inside the launcher things freeze. Then even the launcher freezes too.I rememeber doing 2 things I did before restart:1) I did sudo zypper dup2) I changed my theme to Qtcurve gtk look. I thought the problem might be because of the QTCurve theme and even uninstalled using alt+f2 command line restarted, no change
I recently upgraded to 11.3 and must say am highly disappointed. Between the multitude of problems, and sudden lack of long standing tools ( Sax2, system repair, loss of functionality in software installer), this to me has been a major step backward.
Now I have found out Samba as well has stopped working, sort of. I can still copy from windows share to my Suse box, however copying from Suse to the windows share now results in an error, the details for which just say invalid argument. Also note there are no logs in /var/logs/samba so I don't really have a clue whats happening.
My java-plugins stopped working. I can'tlog on to my webbank and Danish authorities without it. I've tried in Google Chrome, Konqueror, Firefox and Opera. None of them works. All browsers report that java is enabled. According to yast2 I have:
I have Firefox 3.5.11 for Opensuse Linux 11.2. This morning I tried to install an add-in and it was not compatible with Firefox. Now, Firefox will not load. I tried to reinstall Firefox through YAST but this did not work. How do I get Firefox working again?
I made un update yesterday. Main change was from kde 4.5 to 4.6. Caliber stopped working. If I launch it from konsole, I have:
Code: wrbbt:~> calibre Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/calibre", line 19, in <module> sys.exit(main())
[Code]....
RuntimeError: Failed to load the Progress Indicator plugin: the sip module implements API v8.0 to v8.1 but the progress_indicator module requires API v7.1
After 2 years of good service and after I've changed IP addresses in the router from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.102 my autofs stopped mounting my NAS with NFS. That was the only change.
I have a new hp photosmart c4780 printer, and it's not working with gimp (which is the REASON i upgraded from fedora 10 to 12). I upgraded to 12 after i bought it a few weeks ago, and still can't scan from it. I have sane, and xsane installed
Got a problem here with my xsane scanner. my printer is HP Officejet 6500 wireless. when i run xsane when i have a document to scan it says error: failed to open device 'hpaio:net/officejet_6500_E7009n?ip192.168.1.20':error during device I/O.howcan i use again my scanner?
Is it just me or your update applet also stopped working recently? I'm running Factory KDE-4.4.2 and openSUSE-11.2. It's always "Checking for updates..." without finding any, even though I can always see new ones through Yast - Online Update. And sometimes it asks me to accept some key, when I click OK it asks me for a root password but after I type in half of the password it simply disappears and starts "Checking for updates..." again without end.
And YAST doesn't show any newer packages anymore but rather has "Switch system packages" on the top. If I click on that, then it starts showing newer packages and wants to update them all. But what if I want to use Packman's packages for multimedia and Factory KDE for KDE? If I select "Switch system packages" for KDE then it will update, for example, Kaffeine to KDE's but I want to keep it Packman's. If I search for Kaffeine, it shows no newer packages, but if I go to Versions, there's clearly a newer version there!
Im running suse 11.4 on my laptop, everything was ok, this morning, I've attached two or three usb flashes to my laptop and mounted them by device notifer but after an hour, I've attached another usb flash and device notifer stopped working for any usb device or cd/dvd rom actions... (I mean that it doesnt shows ant action, completely emotionless! ) all of them are mountable by command line.
and after that my dolphin places, doesent shows removeable devices and other partitions enymore (so i couldnt mount any partion using gui)
I have a Canon Pixma iP4000. It worked in 11.1, and worked until recently in 11.2. But now it does not work. When I try to print anything with it I get the error:
"Unable to find Gutenprint driver named "Canon PIXMA iP4000"!"
I have tried deleting the printer and setting it up several times in both the YaST printer module and http://localhost:631/. Nothing changes. I am using the driver it suggests and the driver definitely exists. I have tried reinstalling all of my cups and gutenprint-related software as well. I am using an up-to-date x86-64 system.
Seems that my DVD-RW drive has stopped working at some point. I am pretty sure it worked when I first installed OpenSUSE 11.3. I have also tested with couple of other DVD drives - most of the times any of the discs (DVD or CD) I throw in are not recognized, this is what I get in dmesg:
Maybe this happened when new kernel (2.6.34.7-0.5-default) was installed as security update but I am not sure. Today I installed yet a another kernel update (2.6.34.7-0.7-default) but the issue remains...
It seems that the touchpad has stopped working on my Acer travelmate 2490. I don't use it often, so that I am not sure when it occurred, but I suspect it was after my update to KDE 4.3.
I have been running mediatomb for a short while, mainly to play my CD collection on the internet radio. The served is a x86_64 running OpenSuSE 11.1On jan 4 it ceased to work; the /usr/bin.mediatomb file vanished, and eversince I have been unable to get it going. i am using sqlite version.Anyone else got this proble? And even more importantly, how do i get the thing working again? I seem t have lost the db as well and it is not regenerating either
Sound was working just fine in my opensuse 11.2 install until recently. Now it looks like applications can't find the sound server. Under "Control Center" -> Sound it says "Waiting for sound system to respond" forever and doesn't go anywhere. In audacious it has error "alsa error No suitable mixer element found". Now my VirtualBox also gives an error about sound issue. All of these were working just fine early Yesterday.I installed bunch of updates given by YAST yesterday. Could something have messed this up? It is very annoying when sound system was working just fine before and now it suddenly doesn't! Sound like some from windows!
Yesterday I disinstalled with yast java-1_6_0-openjdk-1.6.0.0_b20.1.9.2-0.2.1-x86_64 and java-1_6_0-openjdk-plugin-1.6.0.0_b20.1.9.2-0.2.1-x86_64 (which were installed as part of our sitewide suse 11.3 installation) and replaced them with java-1_6_0-sun-1.6.0.u22-1.2.1-x86_64 and java-1_6_0-sun-plugin-1.6.0.u22-1.2.1-x86_64 (et al) to solve my problem about bad graphics quality in firefox applets as described and suggested in this other postl. That successfully solved my applet problem, but I just discovered it triggered a new problem with openoffice . I tried opening an existing sxc document and got this error message:[Java framework]sunjavaplugin.so could not load Java runtime library: file:///usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0/jre/lib/amd64/server/libjvm.so.
It looks like that openoffice is still looking into the old openjdk instead of the new sun java. How can I repoint it to use the current java (assuming it really needs it) ? Apparently even entering openoffice on a new document gives error in a popupOpenOffice org requires a JRE to perform this task. The selected JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a new JRE and select it under Tools-Options-OpenOffice org-Java ... but since openoffice does not start I cannot access those options I guess (or is such stuff located elsewhere, and if so where) ?
Running openSUSE 11.2 with HP All-in-one 3055 printer/fax/scanner attached through network. Using hplip package.
Printer works just fine. Scanner did work for quite some time, however it stopped working after some update about a month ago (using only opensuse update repo).
When doing hp-scan I get following error:
Checking all the logs I can think of I can't figure this one out. Tried newer hplip package fom HP site same issue (I have two systems, on one I've tried the new driver, on one only using opensuse update repo ...both same issue)
I've run into a situation where knetworkmanager tells me networking is disabled. If I switch to the ifup method in Yast then I can get online but when I switch back to user controlled knetworkmanager tells me that networking is disabled.I've actually had this happen twice. The first time I somehow managed to get it working again (I thought it was by right clicking on the icon in the system tray). This time I don't see the same option.Has anybody got any suggestions on how to get knetworkmanager working again.
over the last couple of weeks, firefox has asked to be upgraded a few times. shockwave flash has also asked to be upgraded. sometime last week after upgrading shockwave flash all video stopped. so i have no videos, video in webpages just shows a grey box, with a light grey arrow.i have been very busy so i have taken time here and there to check the internet for solutions. there appear to have been problems with macs' and a lot of the problems appear to be from august 2009 onwards,am not sure it is the same problem.i am running opensuse 11.1mozilla firefox 3.6.10shockwave flash 10.1 r82 is enabled
I just noticed that highlighting text and middle button clicking no longer copies and pastes as it has it has been for years. I haven't upgraded anything or installed any new software so this is a bit confusing for me. How I may restore this function? BTW, it doesn't work anywhere, terminal, firefox, etc. For clarity, the mouse itself works, I can point, click, etc... it is just the copy/paste function that has failed -disappeared- Using Suse and KDE desktop
I can't input Japanese charactersn KWriteough the input works in all other applications as far as I know). Does anyone have an idea what the cause might be, or what I should be looking at?The point is not that can't see the characters (but e.g. gibberish instead), but that the characters that I type in the input bar are not transfered into KWrite upon commit.
I have a notebook with an Nvidia Quadro NVS 130M. Desktop effects were working on OpenSUSE 11.2. Last week I upgraded to OpenSUSE 11.3, and now desktop effects do not work. When I try to enable them, a box pops up that says something like "desktop effects are not supported on your hardware / configuration. Do you want to try anyway?". If I "try anyway", it does NOT work - I get a jumbled screen that is mostly black, but sometimes objects appear when I mouse over them.
I have the proprietary nvidia drivers (version 256.53) loaded and working (nvidia kernel module loaded, Nvidia splash screen on X server startup, correct lines found in Xorg.0.log).
The Composite option is enabled:
Never-the-less, I still cannot enable the desktop effects.
After installing opensuse 11.4, the kmail program does not automatically check spelling. It worked perfectly in 11.3. Kmail is now 1.13.6. I click Settings > Spellchecker, and it has checked automatic spell checking enabled by default. I click on ok, and the spell checker starts working for a little while. If I click Tools > Spelling it brings up the spell checker box, and that works perfectly. But then, when it's finished, the automatic spell checking is turned off again? There are times when even Settings > Spellchecker will not turn on automatic checking. I haven't figured out yet what triggers the complete failure. What can I do to make it do automatic spell checking when composer starts, without having to remember to click anything? And so that it stays on always?
