Ubuntu :: Xsane Image Scanner Freezes While Scanning?
Nov 19, 2010I have a Fujitsu ScanPartner 93GX scanner that freezes Xsane when I try to use it. The same thing happens to Simple Scan too.
When use sane-find-scanner I get the following:

I started to think I might need a different driver. I found a driver (sane-fujitsu.5) at mangpages (link), but there are no instructions as to what directory to place it in, what files need to be modified to point to it, etc.

Dec 18, 2009HP 5610 all in one device scanner settings please. The printer works fine, I have a problem getting the Scanner to work.
I am running Ubuntu Karmic on my Dual Core Desktop PC. When I run Xsane I get the preview window showing OfficeJet 5600 Series. I also get another little error window saying "Error during CMS conversion:Could not open Scanner ICM profile". It seems like Xsane recognises my HP 5610 All in One Printer/Scanner/Fax/Copier device but what is the error all about?

Sep 7, 2010I've installed XSane Image Scanner. When I first opened it, it searched for my scanner and didn't give any error messages, and it had my scanner model in the heading of the scan window. But when I hit the scan button, it gave me saying, "Failed to start scanner: error during device I/O.I closed everything, and opened XSane again. This time it said there was no scanner available. The scanner is plugged into the USB port and uses that for both power and data. It's a Canoscan Model N650U.

Nov 12, 2010Ubuntu 10.04, xsane 0.996, Brother MFC 240c scanner.I just finished writing a long dissertation on my problem with this scanning environment (which I will spare you). In a nutshell the resulting image, when printed, is smaller than the original document. In writing my dissertation for this post I determined that the cause of the issue is that xsane believes I am scanning an 8.5 x 14 inch document when I am in fact scanning an 8.5 x 11 letter. So the question is... can I change the size to 8.5 x 11? and if so, how? I have not found anything in the xsane Preferences.

I am currently running the Ubuntu 10.04 OS
I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.
Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.
I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.

Nov 2, 2009I can't get Evolution to send any sort of embedded image.I've tried in the body embedded images, signatures, multiple image formats, both the exchange connector and the mapi connector, etc without any luck. EVERY time, evolution strips out the IMG SRC tag contents. Before sending it, I can view the email and the embedded image shows up fine.

Ubuntu :: Can't Get The Scanner Recognized By Xsane ?
Mar 4, 2010I've been using Ubuntu 9.10 'in anger' for a couple of weeks now and overall I'm impressed. However, a couple of days ago my old Epson C46 (which had been working fine under Karmic) died, and I had a look for a replacement.
I decided on a Canon MP270 because Canon seemed to have gone to the trouble of providing Linux drivers on their website. I even phoned Canon and they confirmed it should work fine.
Today the AIO arrived and I downloaded the printer and scanner drivers from Canon. I could't get the install.sh files to run - tried ./ sudo and sh etc, no joy. Anyway, I used the package manager to install the .deb files and that seemed to go OK.
The printing side of things works fine but I can't get the scanner recognized by Xsane.......

It was working fine before the latest kernel update, now I get "cannot start scanner: invalid argument" unless I run the program as root. Feb 12, 2010I use XSane a lot and have been eliminating tons of paper from my office..Sometimes I have to scan a legal size page. I then save as a pdf file. That pdf file shows blank pages in acroread but works in Document Viewer. Can I modify the PDF file so that acroread will display it?

Oct 4, 2010With Lucid I was capable of scanning both with my Epson Perfection 640 U scanner and with my HP-M1120n-MFP network scanner. To get the HP-M1120n to work I had to rename a file which I do not remenber which was. I do not remember where I found the instructions. I am running HPLIP 3.10.6 with Device Manager 15.0. I did a fresh install of Maverick Beta and I am not able to neither scan with the Epson Perfection scanner nor with the M1120n-MFP. As said, both worked with Lucid. As said I had to rename a file to get the MFP scanner to work. I include screen shots to this post.

Dec 2, 2010The scanner is seen using lsusb command but when i open xsane it is not recognized. Xsane wants to use the webcam instead. I think this happened because i saved the settings of the former scanner a few days ago. Should i delete that setting that is saved in the home>.sane>.xsane directory? The old scanner is a Canon Canoscan lide N1220U and the new one is a Canon Canoscan lide 100. I would appreciate any suggestions as i tried a reboot with no improvement :0)

Now I know Xsane is wonderful, but often I want to use Epson's iscan instead, and for other users I prefer Simple Scan. Another thread would be a good place to discuss the reasons.
So I would like to stop my scanner launching anything when switched on.

Feb 18, 2011I have used XSANE for scanning for several years, and it has recently been giving me trouble. It resizes when I copy, and it resizes when I scan into a multipage pdf. It's not drastic, an 8.5 x 11 page gets shrunk down to about 7.5 x 10. I've installed the Gnome scanning utility to get by, but the resolution just isn't as great. I went into Synaptic and marked all the XSane packages for reinstallation and reinstalled them. However, my contrast / gamma settings remained the same, and, as you might guess, whatever is shrinking my output remained the same also.

Aug 17, 2011I'm writing a script that will send an alert email given certain conditions. I have the impression that sendmail is what I need to do that. I just don't know how to use sendmail at all. I assume I have to set it up like a typical mail client so that it has a mail server to log into to send from.

3- i simply tried to send the output of the whole script to file logsave /home/logfile ./script : seems that logsave work under root only
4- ./script > logfile : the problem with this is that the output of echo or (read "enter your id") command will not be displayed on the screen (actually nothing will be displayed, i have to open the log file to see the output). is there any way to save the log of the "send" ? or to save the log of the complete script without hiding the output on the screen?

It used to be that when I plugged the scanner in and started the xsane a window would come up asking if I wanted to use my HP scanner or my Hauppauge video card. Well, that window no longer comes up and the Xsane wants to use my video card. When I try to "scan" the program closes and all the windows associated with it disappear.

Jun 17, 2011CanoScan LiDE 210 running under 10.10 on a Tosh Tecra M11-130 laptop.Currently trying out xsane to archive some paperwork in monochrome, as the bundled Simple Scan utility can only save in either colour or greyscale. The problem is that the same A4 page saved as monochrome has a file size about three times larger in Ubuntu than in Windoze.
The scan mode options are either 'Colour', 'Greyscale' or 'Lineart'. There is no 'halftone' setting available, as shown in some of the xsane manuals. Don't know whether this is significant to this issue. Xsane's main option window shows 3508 x 2480 x 1 bit for a 300 dpi A4 monochrome scan when 'lineart' is selected, but the intermediate file size is 8.3MB instead of just over 1MB before packing for the PDF. This is consistent with each pixel not being recorded as a 1 or a 0, but as a greyscale 11111111 or 00000000, i.e. monochrome/halftone, but stored in an eight bit field. how to tweak xsane for true monochrome intermediate .pnm files and saved PDFs?
