Fedora Hardware :: Getting "All In 1" Functioning?
Nov 7, 2010I've got what appears to be a clean install of 64 bit F14. Which drivers, etc. do I have to install to make my Lexmark X5650 "all in 1" printer/scanner/FAX functional?

But now the system has a major delay that is making it unbearable, is anyone else experiencing this? I am running Fedora on a insprion 1525 with dual core pentiums, and 4gig ram.

I have a strange problem on RHEL 5.4.
I have created a daemon which is being run as a system service at boot, and the start command goes well. When I login after boot and check with
service name status
it says it's running and the daemon accepts requests from clients in the network, only the executable it runs as a response to a client request does not work properly.
If I manually restart the service, as with service name restart everything works OK until the next system reboot.
Somehow the context in which the daemon runs is not OK after boot, and it becomes OK after manual restart.
I just got a graphics card ATI installed on my fedora 10. I would like to see the functioning of the same with some kind of game. Any suggestions for game under fedora 10 to see the graphics application.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need static networking to be functional on F14 to try freeipa....the problem I have is I am unable to get eth0 to start. Knowing the software it has to be eth0 or it will likely not work... The guest is in a RHEV6svr environment... So I have disabled NetworkManager and enabled networ and set manula settings in ifcfg-eth0 incl the hware address but eth0 wont start on boot....
next I tried setting a e1000 network card after the hypervisor default didnt work, only to find that this doesnt work either. The MAC addresses are changing as I try and fault find a dead DNS client issue (yet another F14 issue but lets not go there yet, it could be RHEV's "funky" NATing setup)....so I suspect F14 has got its knickers in a twist over the MAC for ETH0....I keep changing it and I suspect it cant keep up.....so I need to disable the automatic function(s), if there is one....
So somewhere down in the code there is probably a line saying eth0= <mac address> but despite greping I cant find that.....or not something that I edit and it then works.... I have tried the gui tools and command line tools and I still have no network..... So what would be a totally CLI process to fix this automated crap? ie stop F14 pointing at the wrong MAC for eth0?

I recently upgraded to Jessie and am using the LXDE desktop. I like using the keyboard power button to shutdown the system but it does not work. I looked at /etc/acpi and everything appears okay to my untrained eyes, but there is obviously something not working correctly. Do I need to edit some config file or install some code in order to use the power button for shutdown ? When I look at Services Settings I see that acpid power management is selected.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite L25-S199, and it includes an Atheros wireless NIC based on the AR2413 chipset, I believe. Currently I'm running OpenSUSE 11.4 on it, but I've previously had Xubuntu and Ubuntu, and this problem has always existed with WPA2.
Specifically, the LAN is a wireless WPA2 with AES encryption (no TKIP). The computer can connect to the network just fine, but the web is all but unusable; it is very finicky, mostly failing to fetch any pages, but sometimes succeeding (mostly with Google pages, and those from the local network's servers). Perhaps a DNS issue?
This problem doesn't occur with WEP or no encryption.
Here's the output of lspci

So I was messing around on my laptop this morning and I noticed that my desktop effects were turned off. So i decided to turn them on but as soon as i pressed the "normal" option a pop up opens up and says "searching for drivers" then the screen flickers and finally it tells me "desktop effects cannot be enabled". Also my compizconfig wasn't functioning. for exmaple: I turn on wobble windows and nothing happens. No wobble windows.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed the netbook remix of 9.10 on a Dell mini10. (Dual boot with XP) I knew that I would have to install the broadcom drivers to get the wireless up and running. What I didn't anticipate is that the eth0 interface would not work. ifconfig shows the device and lists the ip as a 192.xxx number. I am wired directly into our network, and expect an IP in the 10.10.etc range. Pings either return a host unreachable message or say network unreachable. This problem persists even if I set the card to a known good IP. ifdown eth0 returns a message that the interface is not configured. ifup returns a message that it is ignoring the interface. After fighting that problem for a while, I re-installed, thinking that perhaps something had gotten fouled up in the installation process. The problem persists. Nothing has changed.

The only thing that I believe to have changed recently is updates. I installed a set of updates a day or tow ago. I hadn't used anything requiring sound immediately after the update, so I'm not sure if the updates were the issue.
internet access is no longer working on my computer, ie wget, ping, apt-get update all return unkown host (url or whatever).
However the system monitor (Network History) shows that the system is sending and receiving packets. And what I think is network manager applet shows active network signals for both wireless and ethernet.
I know my laptop has not acquired hardware faults. Since I am posting this message and accessing the internet through the same computer with a Ubuntu live USB start up disk.
I searched through the forums for related posts and tried suggestions. Forinstance
the /etc/resolv.conf
file is the same for both live usb system and hard drive system, so it can not be that.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI would like to try making my desktop into a functioning web server on the web, if this is possible. The plan is to have web pages attached to a database where data provided by the users will be stored and to have programs that will process this data to generate new pages or PDF reports. I plan to user FireBird as the database manager and build the front end with Lazarus, if possible. My desktop is a small Acer with a 1TB hard disk. At the moment it has 1 partition containing Windows 7 which I would like to keep, for now. My internet connection is a phone company supplied standard residential high speed. Here are my questions, if this idea is actually possible:How should I partition the disk or is a root and home partition OK? When I install Slackware, is there anything special that I must do? How do I actually let the web know that this server exists? Are there any Slackware specific sites where I can learn how to do this type of stuff?
