If you do, please let me know what sound card you're using. I'm beginning to think its the driver. All kinds of weirdness in early bootspace and also alsactl init fails with a missing init directory for the device.
I'm on a Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy SE and it's completely non-functional. I've seen bugs reported with the audigy LS but never the SE.
I am running Fedora 15 but about 1 week ago my Hp laserjet 1220 all-in-one printer stopped functioning. The OS recognizes the HP printer, but I cannot print any print job whatsoever. I have looked through the faq section and found no resolution for my conflict or problem. I have used Fedora on this system since Fedora 8.
Program Knoppix 3.1 cdr Computer Dell 2600. Floppy start up yields a stopped functioning computer with the following line: "Probing SCSI... aic7xxx0" At this point the computer is locked up and I have to turn it off. A restart causes the same action.
Giving me the message: Requested download is not authorized for use with this tracker. - idle'Vuze, when I start it, just closes before it even makes itself known! Can someone let me know of reliable torrent client with multi-tracker support, either deb install or easy to follow terminal instructions?
I have a problem with Transmission. After using it for over six months without a single problem, it suddenly stopped downloading. In the torrents that do no get downloaded, I get an error message Tracker responded: Unknown error (0) in the info window, tracker tab. But there are torrents with the same tracker that don'thave a problem and get downloaded fineThe logs don't give a clue about whats wrong either.I tried downloading those torrents with Vuze and I had the same problem. What could be wrong?
I was uninstalling some programs through the package manager, then restarted. When my netbook turned back on, I had no internet connection and the WiFi icon wasn't showing in the notification area as it usually does either. Says the card is functioning properly and everything. Other devices can connect to the WiFi.I'm kind of new to Ubuntu and searched around a bit, but am at a loss. HP Mini 110Ubuntu 10.10Broadcom BCM4313Edit: Quote:$ sudo ifconfig -s
I have been running X applications over my ssh connection for a long time using the command ssh -Y servername.example.com -p 222 . About a week ago, I noticed that it no longer works. I also tried ssh -X servername.example.com -p 222 but again, no success.
I did some mess with adobe flash player and now I have no soound on my Thinkpad T60.

Anybody know how to get pictures off of one? I've got a computer with XP, but the software doesn't want to work. I've tried setting it up in a VM, but VirtualBox won't patch the camera through for some reason. The SD card adapter it came with stopped working, so that's a no-go.
Debian 5 64 bitGnome, using compiz-fusion.Compiz had been working well ever since I installed it last year; a couple of days back there was a debian update (I think and x-server update was there); now compiz does not work anymore. if I select compiz as the window manager from the cmpiz-fusion icon, I cannot move/resize wndows, the titlebar disappears.
My notification-daemon stopped displaying the notification bubble using the position hint provided in notify-send, the notification is always displayed in upper right corner of the screen.
Example of the command line with the position hints: notify-send --hint int:x:500 -h int:y:500 asdf
I can only access the Transmission web interface while the Transmission-gtk client is running. When I close it, the web interface is no longer available. I try to manually start the transmission-daemon, but the process never shows up as running.
after i installed latest ATI proprietary drivers ( 9.3 legacy drivers) for my HP compaq nc6000 with a "Mobility Radeon 9600" the standby and the suspension stopped working, i mean, if i try to suspend or hibernate my laptop, it closes X (this is fine) but after it gets freezed on the whole screen black with just a blinking underscore and nothing more, neither an error message after reboot. All i can do is to force shutdown by pressing poweron button for 5 secs.I'm running on a lenny, stable with stable repo. What can i do to understand where does this problem comes from and maybe fix it?
There seems to be something that has changed in the newest stable Debian - I chose kde4 as my default desktop at installation, and it worked fine. Then I went and changed some options in both /var/run/kdm/kdmrc and /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc, something I have done many times before without problems.
However, when I tried to restart kdm with /etc/init.d/kdm, things didn't come up - no X, no kdm. When I rebooted the machine everything seemed fine, so I thought the problem was solved; but this morning I wanted to change something else - I don't want kdm to remember the last user, and I don't want to see a list of users either. Now dkm and X fail even when I reboot; I also find that /var/run/kdm/kdmrc has disappeared - I am certain I didn't remove it.
The strange thing, when I try /etc/init.d/kdm, I can kdm hanging around all alone in the process list, but no X or greeter. So what is going on - what should I have done instead? And can I repair it? I can of course reinstall the system, but I hate to think that we can't manage better in Linux.
Everything was fine last night, but this morning I signed into my Squeeze box and found that website play audio fine, Hulu Desktop works, some games work, etc. but Rhythmbox, VLC, Totem, and others don't . It all started with an attempt to diagnose a lack of sound in TVtime.
I have used a quite obscure device called Cideko AK0b [URL] .... for quite some time now and it has worked perfectly for almost 2 years now, both in Wheezy and in Jessie. However since I made an dist-upgrade a while back the mouse has totally stopped working. The system works through wifi - strangely enough - but everything else works. Keyboard and gamepad buttons. The manufacture says the things doesn't work on linux and so far I have proved them wrong.
But now the mouse is just out right dead no matter what I do. Have looked into mouse autosuspend but no avail so far. My suspicion is systemd but that is as good as any guess.
Running 3.14-2-amd64.
This is my dmesg.

I just installed KDE and I had 2 minor problems with Konqueror:
1) Every time I emptying the trash, I'm getting the error message: "The file or folder /...path here.../.Trash-1000/files/...filename here does not exist.". Seems like I had deleted this file, and before emptying the trash, I deleted somehow this file outside Debian installation (probably from a live cd). Other than that, trash is working OK. I'm just wondering if there's a way to get rid of the error message. (Of course emptying the trash from command line, doesn't brings any message).
2) Konqueror stopped displaying thumbnails of JPGs, PNGs etc. (with the exception of Photobook view, which is not very convenient for large number of photos).
I bypassed this problem, installing d3lphin (since dolphin is not available for lenny), and browsing the photo catalogs with it.
I have upgraded from Pre-installed Xandros to Ubuntu 9.10 on my Eeepc 701 and my camera is not been detected, even checked the BIOS, where the status is shows as "Enabled"...
I have a LMDE (Mint Linux Edition based on testing, now Wheezy) i386 that I just did a dist-upgrade on and now it isn't properly detecting my monitor resolution. I have two 1680x1050 monitors, one attached to the DVI and another to a VGA video switch. When I rebooted to the new 2.6.38-2-686 kernel both monitors were giving me 1024x768. I futzed around for a while and could then get the the DVI monitor to correctly identify the proper resolution, but the VGA monitor resolutely refused to see more than 1024x768.
I was able to get the proper resolution by entering these commands:

Should I file a bug report, and if so, with whom? I have to say, the Debian bug report process is not too newbie (or even not-so-newbie) friendly, but I'd like to help if it doesn't require me to hand-configure a MUA.
Also, I suppose I shouldn't mention it in a single post, but my mouse is behaving rather unpredictably now (click speed, selecting), and trying to reboot dismounts the file system and then starts up again giving me my display manager (in my case KDM), without restarting the system (both from "sudo reboot" and trying to restart with KDM or the Gnome widget). If I really want to restart the system I have to halt it first and hit the power button.
I use openSUSE 11.4 64 bits, KDE, FireFox 5.0 for browser.Graphics card : nVidia GeForce 9500 GT.
However, when I want to see embedded movies, e.g. in my newspaper, or looking for a hotel, either I get the message : you have no flash plug-in installed, or I get a black screen with a cross in it.
Before that I tried to :
Code: sudo zypper rm pullin-flash-player flash-player nspluginwrapper followed by : Code: sudo cp ~/Downloads/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib64/browser-plugins/ I also followed the links indicated by FireFox for the missing plug-in which eventually resulted in :
Yesterday I installed openSUSE 11.3 on a desktop PC and I noticed that the PC's speaker it's not functioning but if I plug the headphones I can hear the sound system working.
I recently upgraded to Jessie and am using the LXDE desktop. I like using the keyboard power button to shutdown the system but it does not work. I looked at /etc/acpi and everything appears okay to my untrained eyes, but there is obviously something not working correctly. Do I need to edit some config file or install some code in order to use the power button for shutdown ? When I look at Services Settings I see that acpid power management is selected.
I found that in many occasions ice weasel browser stops functioning (not responding) and the only way out is by killing the process.secondly, the process ID is actually firefox!! and no ice weasel process, cause ice weasel is just another name to firefox; and this stopped me from installing firefox.Unfortunately, when I used Konqueror which comes with every linux distro, it gave the same problem.
I tried to run the XBMC live disc but could not fully boot. Each time I could only get to a command prompt after the XBMC splash screen with spinning circle. So I thought, "Maybe because my computer is sort of old (Pentium 4, 2.26 Ghz, 512 RAM) it doesn't like the XBMC Live disc. It will probably work if I install to the HDD." I installed it only to get the same result, XBMC splash screen then loading of command prompt. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is the computer compatible?
My keyboard status lights (Caps Lock, Num Lock, Scroll Lock) are non-functioning when in an X environment. The lights turn on and off as would be expected at the terminal.
xset can turn on the scroll lock, but but not the Caps or Num Lock. numlockx can toggle the Num Lock light.
The functions of the keys on the keyboards works normally, it's just the lights don't update accordingly.
I have already run dpkg -reconfigure keyboard-configuration to no avail. and this is the information that /etc/default/keyboard has about my keyboard
I installed latest nvidia driver with SMXI. I have noticed that anything that uses open GL or GLX does not function. Screensavers, games etc. Output from glxinfo as follows
