I've installed Fedora 14 in a PC. It runs an application where particular event execute by clicking the left mouse button.Problem is that, left button click doesn't work properly. Sometime event executes with simple double click and sometimes after 5-7 double clicks only, event execute.

Keyboard and sometimes mouse stops functioning whilst using oowriter - it only happens with writer. I lose control for up to 30 secs and then it comes back - but it keeps happening. This is on a 10.10 machine with standard install. I have changed keyboard from wireless to wired and back to wireless with new batteries. I have uninstalled Office, rebooted and re-installed but it is still happening on native odt docs. Is this a common recent issue?

I am COMPLETELY new to Linux.I started a computer class recently and I started teaching myself PERL.My teacher had mentioned to me that it's far better for some reasons (he did not elaborate) to write code in a Unix system. So I got Ubuntu 10.10.I installed it along side my windows 7.After I setup my windows (had to reformat the disk) I decided to boot up into Ubuntu to set that up. I installed the necessary drivers that it required, and the updates. I was asked to restart the system so I did so.
It did not even shut down or restart my system.I waited patiently 15 minutes...30 minutes 1 hour... until I finally decided to hit the reset button on my PC. Then when I'd boot back in to Ubuntu afterwards, it would stay at the log in screen and my mouse wouldn't budge and nor is my keyboard recognized by Ubuntu.Im really frustrated and I've been searching for answers for the whooole day and I just can't seem to find something well explained. Im completely new to Ubuntu so I don't know where to enter any code in a cmd line or such.
1)Reformatted my harddrive to install windows 7 on it
2)Set up windows 7 and then booted into Ubuntu.
3) Set up Ubuntu and installed necessary drivers and updates
4) Reset the computer and waited for an hour for the reset to happen but nothing happened.
5) Manually reset my pc and booted into ubuntu
6) Stuck at log in screen with mouse and keyboard not functioning (unable to use ubuntu).

i've a optimus laptop and it isn't functioning as well as it could. I've been recommended to use the 2.6.39 kernel. Would there be any issues upgrading to this kernel since it's unsupported?

I would like to try making my desktop into a functioning web server on the web, if this is possible. The plan is to have web pages attached to a database where data provided by the users will be stored and to have programs that will process this data to generate new pages or PDF reports. I plan to user FireBird as the database manager and build the front end with Lazarus, if possible. My desktop is a small Acer with a 1TB hard disk. At the moment it has 1 partition containing Windows 7 which I would like to keep, for now. My internet connection is a phone company supplied standard residential high speed. Here are my questions, if this idea is actually possible:How should I partition the disk or is a root and home partition OK? When I install Slackware, is there anything special that I must do? How do I actually let the web know that this server exists? Are there any Slackware specific sites where I can learn how to do this type of stuff?

Iv'e got an issue with mouse speed, on boot the mouse is to fast, so I found that the command
Quote:
slows it down the way I need. But now, each boot I need to run it again. Is there a place where I can put it so it runs every time X starts? Also, googling a bit I found that udev rules can be used instead, but I don't know how to write it as a rule.

I just installed kubuntu 9.10 on my new PC (HP Pavillion). I'm new to ubuntu, I had some experience before with mandriva. Most things work properly but there is a strange problem with the mouse (USB), and more precisely with that little wheel which stands between the two buttons. Turning it when the pointer is on some web page (using firefox) I expect the page to scroll. So I turn the wheel in one direction and the page scroll up. Good!I tried with other programs (konqueror, kmail)... and still the same happens, I can only scroll to the top.

I am able to boot into windows just fine. When I select Linux it boots into linux bios data check successful. lots of stuff goes on the screen the normal linux boot stuff. and then it goes to the next screen and stays blank
Nothing happens and even the hard disk light is not blinking.By the way the HDD is Western Digital.

I recently logged into my Slackware 13.1 account and when I issued the "startx" command , there was no toolbar at the bottom and I couldn't see my mouse. I was able to click on a short-cut on my desktop , and my mouse came back. I can't open any thing except VirtualBox. When I open it , the top is cut off , so the minimize , maximize and close buttons are cut-off . I really have no idea what to do.P.S. I have XFCE instead of KDE

I'm running slackware-current in a virtual machine on virtualbox 4, 512 mb ram, 1gb swap.Everything works fine, except the x11 mouse. Xfce will start up fine, and show the 'tips and tricks' dialog, and then freeze. I can't change to a TTY, or click. The mouse moves, but doesn't click.

i have problem to get my 5.1 surround sound card to work properly on Slackware 13.37 with example the Mplayer, Spotify or even when watching movie-clips at .....s. I have searched through forum but havent find any solutions to this problem.I have tested my sound card and it seems to work properly when executing "speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6 -t wav" in the terminal. I have saved the ALSA settings through "alsactl store". But like i said, it still doesnt work with explicitly programs like Mplayer or Spotify, it still plays the sound as 2.1 (stereo).

Running FF 3.6.13 on Slack 13.1 (32-bit). Every time that I use FF when I close it the processes that are spawned when it starts never end. I have to manually go and kill them. It is pretty annoying more than an inconvenience since I don't normally use FF. Unfortunately I have to use it, every now and then, for some things and if I need to restart it I have to open a terminal and kill the processes.
I've tried re-installing on top of the version that I have there, and actually uninstalling and installing it again (of course making sure that all of the directories are gone), I've also tried renaming my ~/.mozilla directory (in case there is a problem with the profile).

how to build luabind properly on slackware, or I guess any distro. I have not been able to build it for the last hour and it has really made me angry. It seems everything lua pisses me off, because they really like not to use any sane build system. So far I've tried doing what they said, and I got the boost source both from the link they provide and from the slackware source directory. The one they provide make a jam0, which looks for a Jamfile, which does not exist. The one from the slackware source directory does make a bjam, but when I run it it looks for boost, not for luabind. It's just madness. If only I could get in touch with the luabind devs so I can curse at them and send them hatemail.

Code:
@reboot rm -rf /tmp/*
Yet /tmp is not clearing.
This exact same setup is working fine for me on two 13.1 boxes and a -current machine; what gives?

How would I edit the files, for this under slackware with permissions for my other users to use it? I have been following the guide, and I have not gotten far. I have created the recommend mythtv user and have mythtv installed. Also should I switch to 64bit slackware for this project? I have 1 gig of ddr2 ram, 64 bit capable pentium 4 ht cpu clocked at 3Ghz, 80gigabyte internal hard drive, and I have a wintv card.

I usually install grub straight away after an install but this time it hasnt worked for some reason after installing 13.1 on a new lappy. I have tried grub, grub2 (from sbo) and lilo; nothing I install into MBR will boot my slackware installation, I have to use the boot USB stick every time.
grub-legacy would be my preferred one so ill ask for help specifically with that. This is what im doing so far -

I copied the extras/source/grub folder to my home folder.
I did: ./grub.SlackBuild as su.
The install went on for a long time and I saw warnings etc flash by.
I don't know if it has installed properly. I tried it before and it destroyed my grub menu. I managed to recover grub through LMDE and now, I am back for more!
Is there any way to tell if this app is installed properly before I run grubconfig?

I've read about this. Everyone says to use ~/.Xresources or ~/.Xdefaults, and it doesn't work for me. It doesn't do anything at all, in fact. I'm trying to use this:
Code:
XTerm*background: black
XTerm*foreground: white
In the ~/.X* files, it won't work. I read that another way of doing it is using
Code:
xrdb -merge .x_settings_file
This will work for me. It's the only thing I can get to work. But when I restart, it will have to be done again. I'm using Slackware 12.2.

I've been through a few versions of Slackware on my Asus EeePC and I must, despite that fact that every has been having lots of trouble (or so I've heard) configuring Linux on it, it hasn't been all that bad for me. One problem that continues to persist is that the brightness setting is weird. It doesn't like to display on full brightness most the time, and when I try to change the brightness (function keys or OS function), it goes through 3 'mini-cycles'.
I've tried the Alien eeepc-acpi-scripts slackbuild a while back and it didn't work for me before. While searching for another solution, I found this thread on the Ubuntu forums: [URL]. But the major fix that seems to be working for them involves editing GRUB (which I don't have). Another post suggests simply updating the BIOS, but the BIOS updater is a Windows executable, and I'm not quite sure how he pulled it off in Linux.

I'm hoping that this is a stupid question with a very simple answer that I just can't find.I've been playing around with compiz-fusion on -current64. When I have two windows open, if I close the top, active window, I would expect that the next window in the stack would receive the focus. However, it does not. I have to alt-tab to it or click it with the mouse.

I have installed SDL_gfx, configured, compiled and installed perfectly fine, then I ran ldconfig, and yet I get an error from the install scrip of Lincity, complaining that I'm missing SDL_gfx -- I've read all the READMEs and INSTALLs for each, yet I can't see what I've missed. What do I need to do to make Lincity configure properly prior to compiling?

I've been using Slackware for ages... since like 1997 or 1998. I have a Slackware 3.x CD around here somewhere. I'm usually the one explaining how Linux works to everyone else. I even got GnuCash working on Slackware. So these two problems ...
1. Keyboard in Xorg. It seems to work, except the down arrow and the page down buttons are mapped as something else (the down arrow causes TEXT TO DISAPPEAR...I've had to type this like three times now...). After a bunch of searches, it looks like a problem with HAL and evdev (whatever that is). I tried setting the model in KDE's Regional control panel but that had no effect.
Xorg.conf settings for this section... you can see some remnants from prior attempts:
I did check that event1 refers to the keyboard. The keyboard is a Microsoft Internet Keyboard that works fine; the arrow keys work great outside of X.
2. Mouse in Xorg. The scroll wheel wants to scroll side to side instead of up and down. This also happens to be a Microsoft product (I like their mice... my wife brought the Microsoft keyboard into the relationship...). It's just a wheel optical 3-button mouse, nothing special. Again, none of my usual xorg.conf edits seem to work; here's what I have right now.
Again, I checked that the mouse is event2.
Someone really should make an upgrade guide for people like me that have been using it for years and aren't really following the tech that explains new features like hal and evdev (I know hal has been around for a couple versions, but I've never gotten involved with it until now). Or maybe there is one and I'm just not aware of it. Basically I just want it to just work, which is why I use Slackware in the first place!
I should mention I did have both working under Slackware 13.1 on this machine until Windows conveniently erased my root partition for me, so I got to do a completely clean Slackware install for the first time in a LONG time. That's when the issue arose. Because I was in a rush, I did a full install. I assume the previous setup was using non-hal/non-evdev methods, but I might as well set this one up using the new methods, right?
I'm using Slackware64 13.1, running on a Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.50 GHz. Hardware is fine - both mouse and keyboard work under Windows XP, and like I said the keyboard is fine outside X. It has to be some configuration problem ...somewhere.

I got a netbook and I'd like to know how I can fix something that is annoying the heck out of me.
1- How can I set mouse tapping to off? I have searched and all the threads I could find were related to the use of the synaptics driver. However, synclient accuses no synaptics driver being loaded and it is as far as I can tell a PS/2 mouse. kcm_touchpad also is completely grayed out. I think I'll have to write a mouse.conf to place in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ but I have no idea what to put there.
