View 1 RepliesI think I have finally arrived at an insolvable equation:
Chromium v.7 + Ubuntu 10.04 + Sun Java 6 + Webcam + Facebook + Flash 10 = non-functional
All of those items listed above are potential points of failure in this situation, and any help narrowing them down would be fantastic. I am simply trying to enable webcame support directly through Facebooks website.
Forum searches and the usual googling turn up few posts related to this specific equation. Two of the major suggestions include:
1) Installing the Sun (I refuse to say oracle sob)-provided Java implementation instead of the OpenJDK normally installed in Ubuntu. And yes, after installing it, I did update all my default supports to use the sun commands over the openjdk.
2) Somehow enabling Facebook as a permitted site to access my webcam using Flash settings.
I have not been able to explore option 2 because I cannot find a way to adjust the Flash settings in chromium 7.
In skype 2.1 beta for ubuntu 10.04 LTS desktop amd64, the webcam is not getting configured at all. The test button in <options> for video shows no results or response. The same problem was faced in Karmic Koala also and now in Lucid Lynx. Kindly provide some concrete solutions to this very problem of configuring webcam in skype for ubuntu.

I did have it in F8.Has this been removed in F11?Tested over the MSN protocol with ports 6891-6892 open (tcp and udp).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to enable webcam support so I'll be able to talk to people via webcam using linux (using Ubuntu 10.04). I've looked at some guides such as using Emesene messenger to no avail. Also I've tried to use Wine and install Msn Messenger 7.5, however I'm unable to type in my email address and password to login to the messenger client. I searched and read about installing some packages or whatever for wine to allow me to enter in text but to no avail. I've used the stable release of wine as well as the beta release for wine (by adding the deb url inside the software source list). I'm using empathy and there's a webcam icon next to my name under my gmail account, when I click that I can see myself just fine, but nobody can see that I have webcam support. =/ Any tips, hints, guides, direction..? I have an Asus Ul80vt and the webcam is a chicony something if that helps at all.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a HP laptop which can support 1600x900. But after I install ubuntu 9.10 on it, it can only support up to 1280x700. My laptop has a Nvidia graphics card. And i am using GNOME as my desktop environment.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I was messing around on my laptop this morning and I noticed that my desktop effects were turned off. So i decided to turn them on but as soon as i pressed the "normal" option a pop up opens up and says "searching for drivers" then the screen flickers and finally it tells me "desktop effects cannot be enabled". Also my compizconfig wasn't functioning. for exmaple: I turn on wobble windows and nothing happens. No wobble windows.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed the netbook remix of 9.10 on a Dell mini10. (Dual boot with XP) I knew that I would have to install the broadcom drivers to get the wireless up and running. What I didn't anticipate is that the eth0 interface would not work. ifconfig shows the device and lists the ip as a 192.xxx number. I am wired directly into our network, and expect an IP in the 10.10.etc range. Pings either return a host unreachable message or say network unreachable. This problem persists even if I set the card to a known good IP. ifdown eth0 returns a message that the interface is not configured. ifup returns a message that it is ignoring the interface. After fighting that problem for a while, I re-installed, thinking that perhaps something had gotten fouled up in the installation process. The problem persists. Nothing has changed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running 10.04 (64bit) on an hp dv6915nr and sound has been working great for the past few weeks. When I started the machine up today, it wouldn't play any sounds and the sound preferences show no input devices. Output devices lists simply "Dummy Output".
The only thing that I believe to have changed recently is updates. I installed a set of updates a day or tow ago. I hadn't used anything requiring sound immediately after the update, so I'm not sure if the updates were the issue.
internet access is no longer working on my computer, ie wget, ping, apt-get update all return unkown host (url or whatever).
However the system monitor (Network History) shows that the system is sending and receiving packets. And what I think is network manager applet shows active network signals for both wireless and ethernet.
I know my laptop has not acquired hardware faults. Since I am posting this message and accessing the internet through the same computer with a Ubuntu live USB start up disk.
I searched through the forums for related posts and tried suggestions. Forinstance
the /etc/resolv.conf
file is the same for both live usb system and hard drive system, so it can not be that.

I tried the system test (System->Administration->System Test), with only Network tests selected). The results of system test were so extensive I searched for the word internet and extracted lines for internet. Interestingly it says both the network_test and the internet_test are _passed_.
But the internet does not work in either in web browsers or with BASH commands.

How do I troubleshoot my right Alt key to function.
Using Debian GNU/Linux Lenny 5.0.3 with a Gnome Desktop. My keyboard is A4tech KBS-720.

Other than that, I'm not sure where to configure such. Using the keyboard on another computer, all keys works.
I've had a recent run of ubuntu snafus lately, most of which come back to accidentally getting firefox 3.6.4 (namaroka) installed. I've since rolled back and gotten flash working properly again, but Zotero isn't working. I figured out it was because java was being screwy and have been trying to repair it. I followed the instructions here first: [URL] and installed version 6 update 19. It came up as an add-on in firefox but didn't do anything. When I pull up a page with java on it the page just says it is disabled and I can click to install it. However, I then get was getting a box saying: "E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages." I have since removed update 19, done a complete removal in synaptic, and reinstalled JRE and the plugin by going to a page in firefox and clicking the install button. Now it still isn't under my extensions list in firefox, it says it's disabled on pages with java, and when I click to install it says I already have it. I'm running Karmic koala by the way.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed 10.04 today, not having used this system for Ubuntu since 8.04. My wireless card (Texas Instruments ACX 111) worked perfectly in Windows XP and 7, and it worked on installation in 8.04.
I did a clean, full install of 10.04 (no dual boot or anything), but the wireless card is not working. The OS doesn't even seem to recognize that it is there because I can't even scan for networks, let alone connect.
The only reason I have a connection on this computer is because I am sharing the internet via ethernet from my Macbook.
I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04. The Caps lock indicator on my keyboard is not working (always off). The Num lock indicator works fine. I have the same problem with other keyboards. The other keyboards work with Windows & DOS. This isn't a show-stopper, but I'd like to get it corrected as it's problematic when typing in passwords, etc. that have hidden fields.

Wireless need propriety drivers and will not function with out them being installed
And LAN port (wired RJ45 port) is not working too.
So what is the easy way to update these drivers.
Borrow someone else USB wireless adapter, that will work instantly with Ubuntu version you just installed.

Then you can update on line via USB wireless adapters. I use WG111v2 to connect to dell 4010 to update other wireless drivers.
I upgraded to 3.1.4 about a week ago and have since lost calender functionality on 64 bit ubuntu. Is anyone else having this issue or know the fix?
View 5 Replies View RelatedKeyboard and sometimes mouse stops functioning whilst using oowriter - it only happens with writer. I lose control for up to 30 secs and then it comes back - but it keeps happening. This is on a 10.10 machine with standard install. View 5 Replies View RelatedI am having some issues and my fixes are not even close to functioning anymore.I originally downloaded this driver http:[url]... and, though I occasionally had to re- "make-install" it, it worked.Last night, I did the system updates Ubuntu suggested and this morning, my WiFi is not functioning .Here are the "common commands" and stuff I have used so far to try to debug the problem.

I am slightly confused as to why my Wireless LAN Controller doesn't come up as my Realtek 8185, but I think that may be issue number 1. The next bit of confusion comes from the fact that wlan0 is shown as connected to the correct SSID, even showing a frequency, but is not, infact, sending or receiving from that source. As I have said before, I just really nee WiFi to work.I was having issues with my sound and graphics cards,so I ran the update manager, but I wasn't expecting it to break my drivers! It is also worth noting that I have actually tried to recompile my drivers and re-install them, they don't seem to be working, for some reason.
I'm trying to find out when QME2572 (Qlogic) card became support by the kernel. We have a RHEL 5.1 system that is moving to new hardware, however the kernel at this release doesn't support the new hardware, due to the Qlogic card change. I tired the Redhat KB and Bugzilla. Is there a Kernel change list etc I can search. Never really played around with the kernel too much so I'm just after some pointers for looking up this information. Offically its not supported until Redhat 5.3, I'm trying trying to research kernel info so I can tell the customer they have to upgrade.

I just recently reinstalled 9.10 and everything I normally use with my workstation is working fine except for virtual terminals.
ctrl+alt+f1-f6 just returns with a blank screen.
ctrl+alt+f7 returns to gdm session
ctrl+alt+f8-f12 also yield no information.
I recently bought an Acer Extensa 5635Z and things were fine until I lent it to my godson for a weekend and got it back with the internal hard drive not functioning; he said it worked one night, and didn't the next morning; now, it's not recognised and an OS is not found during bootup. Whereas this was bad news for me in one way, on the other hand it was the perfect chance to switch to Ubuntu, something I've been wanting to do for years, and I've been really enjoying most aspects of it after using a live disk to be able to do my work over the last couple of days. Now, instead of buying another new laptop, I would like to use an external hard drive that I've just bought in the place of my broken internal hd, and have Ubuntu on it.I've read tutorials on it and they basically say that all I have to do is:
* Run the live disk - done
* Uncheck these options -
Mount removable drives when hot-plugged
[code]....
Is that it? Is there anything else I should do for this particular brand or situation (will the BIOS recognise the hard drive?) or any issues I should know about beforehand? How do I choose the HDD as primary boot? Should I insert the external HD before or after unchecking the options? Should I leave any of the 250 GB to '/dev/sda1'? There being no actual internal hard drive won't provoke trouble with the process?
P.S. My computer is 64-bit capable and I've been using a 64-bit Ubuntu disc. I've had trouble viewing things in this interim period, particularly videos, and incapable of installing codecs. Should I just get a 32-bit Ubuntu disc? Or will the problems be resolved when I have a rewritable disc on which to operate?
I have a problem with the suspend button (fn+f5) on my hp pavilion dv2000 laptop. It is working but only after an intervention. So, every I boot up my system the short-cut/button is not functioning. In order to make it work I have to open the Power Management Preferences and close them. I don't even need to change anything there. Now the button will be working just fine until the next restart. It's pretty annoying to visit the Power Management after each restart, isn't it. Any ideas how could I fix this?
