Red Hat / Fedora :: Daemon Not Functioning Well Before Manual Restart?
Mar 24, 2010
I have a strange problem on RHEL 5.4.
I have created a daemon which is being run as a system service at boot, and the start command goes well. When I login after boot and check with
service name status
it says it's running and the daemon accepts requests from clients in the network, only the executable it runs as a response to a client request does not work properly.
If I manually restart the service, as with service name restart everything works OK until the next system reboot.
Somehow the context in which the daemon runs is not OK after boot, and it becomes OK after manual restart.
I use mt-daapd music server to stream music to a couple of network music players (which use UPnP protocols). Recently (last month or so) I have found that on restarting my ubuntu system I need to manually restart the avahi-daemon in order for the music players to be able to 'see' the music server. I think avahi-damon is running when ubuntu first starts up. The output of a ps aux shows:
[Code]...
I'd like to understand why I need to restart the avahi-daemon and either solve this or learn a way to automate restarting it on system boot up so I don't have to do it manually each time. My system is ubuntu 9.10 64 bit and the version of avahi-daemon is 0.6.25
I have two drives on my Lenovo computer. On #1 I have installed Fedora 12. On #2 I have Fedora 9 with a not functioning GRUB bootlloader. I would like to copy a number of directories/files from #2 to #1 but I can't see the #2 drive on #1. What to do?
I came in to work today and updated my laptop, which is common for fedora to either update every week or bi-weekly. But now the system has a major delay that is making it unbearable, is anyone else experiencing this? I am running Fedora on a insprion 1525 with dual core pentiums, and 4gig ram.
The mic is disable/not function and i dont look input connetor (Microphone1&2) on Sound Preferences which accessible from System Preferences > Sound menu. this is the proc codec in my Asus AO722
I just got a graphics card ATI installed on my fedora 10. I would like to see the functioning of the same with some kind of game. Any suggestions for game under fedora 10 to see the graphics application.
I need static networking to be functional on F14 to try freeipa....the problem I have is I am unable to get eth0 to start. Knowing the software it has to be eth0 or it will likely not work... The guest is in a RHEV6svr environment... So I have disabled NetworkManager and enabled networ and set manula settings in ifcfg-eth0 incl the hware address but eth0 wont start on boot....
next I tried setting a e1000 network card after the hypervisor default didnt work, only to find that this doesnt work either. The MAC addresses are changing as I try and fault find a dead DNS client issue (yet another F14 issue but lets not go there yet, it could be RHEV's "funky" NATing setup)....so I suspect F14 has got its knickers in a twist over the MAC for ETH0....I keep changing it and I suspect it cant keep up.....so I need to disable the automatic function(s), if there is one....
So somewhere down in the code there is probably a line saying eth0= <mac address> but despite greping I cant find that.....or not something that I edit and it then works.... I have tried the gui tools and command line tools and I still have no network..... So what would be a totally CLI process to fix this automated crap? ie stop F14 pointing at the wrong MAC for eth0?
I've installed Fedora 14 in a PC. It runs an application where particular event execute by clicking the left mouse button.Problem is that, left button click doesn't work properly. Sometime event executes with simple double click and sometimes after 5-7 double clicks only, event execute.
Im Using FC14 and i like it so far. been trying around a bit and made searches for my problem but either im blind or im the only one with this problem (which i doubt) i have a problem of the keyboard "dying" on me mid using it. it doesnt seem to matter what im doing, it still goes dead on me sporadicly. ive tried changing to 4 different keyboards. PS2 and usb keyboards. but all 4 keeps sporadicly dying on me until i reboot and it works again until its dies.im wondering if the problem is in the hardware detection somewhere..if you need hardware information it would be nice if you posted commands so i understand what you need
I am running Fedora 15 but about 1 week ago my Hp laserjet 1220 all-in-one printer stopped functioning. The OS recognizes the HP printer, but I cannot print any print job whatsoever. I have looked through the faq section and found no resolution for my conflict or problem. I have used Fedora on this system since Fedora 8.
I setup my computer to share printers on home network. So I set my F11 PC for manual ip & it works fine for print sharing but now I can't get to the Internet. I noticed under manual settings that every time I set the gateway & try to apply it, it jumps back to all 0's. If I set it to DHCP, I get to the Internet no problem. I just have 2 wireless configs right now 1 for printing & 1 for Internet but it would be a lot easier if I could just use the one manual setting & get it to keep the gateway setting. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router. And I do select a manual IP outside the range the router uses for DHCP.
i have no problem with DHCP Internet conection, when i set up to manual and manually imput an IP ADDRESS-NETMASK-GATEWAY y get local red but not Internet. Im i missing something, i cant find a guide for dummies.
I have a typical 'linksys' style home wireless router (whose IP is 192.168.0.1) .
If I use DHCP, everything works fine:
Code:
However, if I try to give myself a static IP,
Code:
(I also never understood why the DNS server should not be the real dns server address (some external ip) rather than the router's address? but that is what gets set automatically when using DHCP)
So using manual, it connects, but then the internet doesn't work. The only difference I see when I go to "connection information" when connected with dhcp vs manual is in dhcp mode there is a "default route: 192.168.0.1". Is that the problem? How do I set this "default route" / what is it?
UPDATE 8/28/2009: I now recommend that people install the new packages instead of the manual instructions below, see this link:http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=155503 (Howto for fglrx/catalyst (Ati driver) and Compiz-fusion)NOTE: After installing the packages, I had to do the things at the following link to make the above packages work:http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpo...postcount=3564If you still want to install the driver manually (you do not need to if you install the packages above), the instructions are below:
I cannot find the C library manual pages on fedora 11. Are info pages the same as man pages? or how can I install man pages so that I can use man 3 malloc?
In the process of making the jump from Ubuntu to Fedora and some of the file placement is catching me. Under Debian, I knew how to setup wireless from boot using /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/wpa_supplicant. Now, I know F12 uses /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts and /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf, but I can't seem to follow the details. Can I use the same commands issued in /etc/network/interfaces in the appropriate /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts file? Can I, basically, copy my /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf to /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf?
I am in the midst of upgrading my F11 computer to F13. I have run PreUpgrade, and the files have downloaded, it's restarted and now it's asking me to do the Manual TCP/IP Configuration. I have only enabled IPV4. It's asking for the following info (which I can't seem to get right)
[Code]....
The IP I want the computer to have is 192.168.0.5, my router is 192.168.0.1, my subnet is 255.255.255.0 I don't know what the Name server is for. Do I need to put the above into into any of the fields above? I've tried a few times but with no luck.
I just installed the new 2.6.27.5-37.fc9.x86_64 kernel from the updates-newkey repository, and I've discovered that the new kernel boots much slower than the 2.6.26 kernel and requires manual intervention to complete the boot sequence on my laptop.
Details: 1) My laptop is a HP dv9708us with 17" AMD Turion dual core 64bit system, 3Gb memory, two SATA drives. One drive (a Fujitsu 160Gb) was installed by HP, and I added a second (a Hitachi 320Gb) drive in the empty secondary drive bay.
2) I have Fedora installed on the secondary drive, but I boot from GRUB using the Kubuntu /boot directory on the first drive. I do that because GRUB cannot properly access the secondary drive. (GRUB reports (hd1) as avilable, but can't "see" any partitions on it.)
3) When the 2.6.26 kernel is booted, the ATA driver produces several messages about the secondary drive being "frozen" untill it reduces the access speed from 3Gb/sec to 1.5Gb/sec. Thereafter it works normally. (I asked in http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...to-fix-678903/ how to fix this, but received no replies.)
4) When I boot the new 2.6.27 kernel, the boot hangs for a minute or so for each attached USB device and then appears to hang completely while trying to access the secondary ATA drive. The manual intervention that resolves the problem is to repeatedly push the "control" key, which will cause the ATA error messages, seen with the older kernel, to be displayed and the boot to finish.
5) Even with the manual intervention, the boot process requires about five minutes to complete. This is considerably slower then the boot time required by the 2.6.26 kernel on the same hardware.
6) Without the manual intervention the boot process had not completed during the time it took me to shower, shave, and get dressed this morning - about 45 minutes.
lost my internet connection on fedora 12 ? i try to assaing the ip address manual in the configruation part but no nothing happen I've tried googling for the problem
Installed Fedora 11 successfully, but I cannot get the MP3 files to produce sound.
Have tried the default configuration for sound, the Pulseaudio and the PulseAudioSoundServer.Installed and use KDE interface. Sound works for SKYPE (after selecting HDAIntel) and the Firefox 3.5 Beta 4.
I'm new to Fedora and have just purchased a subscription to a GoDaddy Virtual Dedicated Server, which I'm able to control using SSH.I have a Java application that I want to run as a daemon on this VDS. Some google searching yielded a bunch of different methods of doing this, none of which I'm sure would be guaranteed to work with Fedora, so I was hoping someone here could give it to me straight and fill me in on the simplest way of doing this. What is the best/simplest way to run a Java application as a daemon on Fedora?
I was trying to get a daemon to load on boot, I stupidly added it to rc.local and it just hangs. I would love to put in a live CD and edit out the line but the volume is encrypted and I cannot get it to mount.
Is there a way I can cancel the daemon from loading or get to the grub menu (not readily visible since I am single boot) and then boot into a console?
i installed transmission on my fedora14 VPS for headless usage by "yum install transmission transmission-daemon", problem comes when i try to configure the init.d Scrip for transmission-daemon to run as a different user instead of the pre-specified user transmission, how should i modify the default transmission-daemon file bellow?
I've been trying to get my internal microphone to work in F12, and as part of the things I've tried I had the seemingly bad idea of reinstalling pulseaudio. The problem now is that pulseaudio fails to start... The following is from /var/log/messages, and is repeated several times:Code:Nov 24 08:51:20 localhost pulseaudio[6300]: main.c: Daemon startup without any loaded modules, refusing to work.
I have fedora 12 32 bits installed on a Macbook pro (intel core duo) I did "yum update" this morning, I have restarted the system and got the following message:Starting abrt daemon: abrtd: Failed to start: got sig 2 FAILEDI have browsed in the web but I cannot find useful information. Then I typed:$rpm -qa | grep abrt
I'm having some problems getting my screensaver to work automatically. If I start the screensaver config program then it gives me this message: "The XScreenSaver daemon doesn't seem to be running on display ":0.0". Launch it now?" If I click yes then my screensaver works exactly as expected. How can I get the XScreenSaver daemon to start automatically?
