Sep 15, 2014I'm trying to make things work on my laptop. Almost done, but there is one hardware issue left. I have a Intel HD4400 graphic card. But it seems that it is not recognized. I had an issue loading Gnome3.

And as a consequence, I can't use dual-screen. If I plug another sreen, I have an exact copy, not even with a good resolution.
I search on the web for solutions, but I didn't understand much. I don't know what Xorg is, x-window, etc...

Mar 7, 2014I tried to install the latest stable version of Debian (download yesterday : Debian Wheezy 7.4.0) on my new computer Fujitsu Celsius W530.The version installed is exactly this one (given by the commande "uname -a") :

I have a problem with the Intel ethernet card : I217-LM (the model was verified on the Fujitsu specifications and also on the Windows 8 I use on another partition).During the install procedure, Debian did not find the ethernet card.I continued the install without it and after I tried to make it found.I got a Linux driver in the Intel Web Site but I saw after that Debian loaded yet this driver (e1000e), so I did not install the driver from Intel (I needed to get linux-headers and to compil the files).
So when I force the system to load the driver, it gives no error but the device is still not found when I try to bringup the network interface.URL...
- understand why I see the Device (with "lspci" command) and the module "e1000e" (I tried also the "e1000" one) loaded with "lsmod" command ?
- make the card work to allow my debian for connecting to internet ?

OS (Linux and Windows) see the device, connects with netwoks, but it is impossible to surf the net or even ping my gate (over 90% packets lost). I have tested it with Debian Leny, Ubuntu 7.1 and 9.04, OpenSuSE 11 and Windows XP, I have tried several drivers, changing slot.

I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.

Aug 23, 2014My computer boots up, grub loads up, but I enter tty1 instead of the desktop environment.
I am using Debain GNU/Linux 7.0 (wheezy).
My mother board is an ASUS M4A88T-M.
Former graphics card was a Radeon, bought within the past couple years, pretty high specs. (I am having trouble determining what the card is right now, I'll update my post when I figure it out).
I remember having to mess around with some config files to get it to work at first, but right now how to 'unfix' it now.
Slackware :: USB Wireless Card Recognized But Cannot Connect To Network?
Dec 17, 2010Hi I have istalled a D-Link wireless adaptor - with the help of this forum.
It is up and running - the light flashes and lsusb identifies it correctly, so does iwconfig.
I can, however, not connect to the network, and I noticed the following errors on boot up.
Trigering udev events: /sbin/udevadm trigger -- type: failed /etc/rc.d/rc.M: wlan0 Error for wireless request; "Set Nickname" (8BIC) information; "Any ESSID" Set failed on device wlan0; operation not supported.
Lower down I get

I have on two occassions seen sugstions to use wicd, but how do I use that?
Fedora Hardware :: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 / No 'b43' Network Card Was Recognized?
Nov 25, 2009I have had a Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 since Fedora 10. In addition, both Fedora 10 and 11 wouldn't recognize the card with out third-party drivers. I was pretty excited when I booted the 12 Live CD and it recognized it at boot.
Since this is my lab box I thought its time to give Fedora 12 a try.
I did an DVD upgrade from 11 to 12 and rebooted. The Broadcom came up fine this time. I did a yum upgrade to finish from whatever was not on the DVD and rebooted. This time no 'b43' network card was recognized. I still had my third part driver files so I:
b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware/ ./broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5/driver/wl_apsta_mimo.o
and a 'modprobe b43' and I had my card back.
I am sorry for dragging this out this far, but now every time the Fedora 12 box reboots I have to type in modprobe b43 to get my card to work. I did not have to do this for neither Fedora 10 nor 11.
I put a line in /etc/modprobe.conf - 'alias wlan0 b43' but I still don't get my wireless card until I type modprobe b43.

I`m now facing some problems with my new OS :
1. The driver for my wireless network card isn't recognized although I have installed the recommended driver which was in Ubuntu Hardware Driver section.
2. When I connect my laptop to my TV using HDMI port, the screen is OK but there is no sound!
3. When by any reason my network cable is unplugged, the whole network service goes down and I have to restart the system.

May 18, 2010I am running Lucid Lynx and have only noticed this problem in the past couple weeks. Before Lucid I ran Jaunty & Karmic on this same box, although I installed Lucid as a clean install. My problem is that up to 5 or 6 times per minute my networking card drops its connection and then has its connection re-established. I have an integrated Intel 82566DC gigabit card on an Intel Motherboard DG35EC connected to a 10/100 network and am running the 64-bit version of Lucid. I've done some considerable searching on this problem and although I've seen many references to similar problems dating back several years, I have found none that seem to have any solutions that do anything for me. I never had this problem under any prior version of Linux on this box (all prior versions were also 64-bit).
In short, this block of messages repeats in my messages log:

Most of the time I don't even see that the connection has gone down. Sonetimes everything seems to be operating fine for a half-hour or more, although it could be dropping out and coming back really quickly all of the time. Sometimes it goes out for 10 seconds.Sometimes it goes out for many minutes and I can get networking back by killing disabling networking and then re-enabling it. It's quite annoying.
I'm sorry if I'm duplicating an existing issue on this forum, but I can't find this exact problem anywhere. Does anyone have any clever ideas about how to fix this?

to list the make manufacture of NIC and the device driver it is using.
In this case: Intel 82574L, e1000e
Look in var/log/messages to get the version of the driver, in this case 1.0.2
Download .gz file with source code, follow instructions to install newest driver (e1000e.ko), in my case version 1.2.10. [URL]

Sep 12, 2014I'm a brand new user of Debian, and I just bought a (too much?) new laptop, the HP 430 G2. It seems to work great for almost everything, except that I don't have any wifi available.
I tried so many different things (without any success) that it would be hard to resume. But for now, all I have is a new installation (to avoid parasite installations of weird things), and a kernel updated to 3.16. I don't know if it's useful though...

The first element I notice is that I don't have the line with "Kernel driver in use...". Which seems to indicate that there's a problem with the kernel module (is that right?). But I don't know how to fix it...
The other thing that puzzles me with these last two commands is that according to this page, my wifi card is a Broadcom BCM43142. But it's not the result I get with the lspci command.
Anyway, I'm really lost, I don't know what to do, what to check, what to install. I don't want to go by random, testing all the different solutions I see on the web blindely. This is the reason why I ask it here.
Debian Hardware :: Sound Card Is Not Recognized By System
Oct 14, 2014I've got a problem on my Debian, I've tried installing all the correct alsa packages and all packages that have the word sound or audio description. The problem that is happening here is that when I go into settings and click on sound in Gnome, it appears to have a dummy output and in fact, a few weeks ago, the sound was working properly. Now, I believe, that after an update, the sound card was not recognized. Used the lspci command in root mode, and showed my sound card which is onboard. I'll leave the model below it, because I've tried everything and could not solve anything.

OpenSUSE Install :: Boot With Intel Motherboard?
Jul 3, 2010I have server with Xeon E5620, 8 GB RAM, three 1TB hard drives which are in sw RAID 5 and two 250GB disk which are in sw RAID 1, all of this on Intel S5500BC motherboard. Installation of opensuse 11.0 11.1 11.2 and Enterprise suse 11 was successfull. After grub menu i get blank screen. It`s blank for about 60 - 120 sec and then appear Suse loading page and loading bar. This also happens if i change to text mod. But in text mod i can see what`s going on. First 5-10 lines are informations about partitions and then i get output just like on this link. However, the monitor preferences shows a maximum of 1024x768 only. How can I bring up the resolution to 1440x900? The screen seems sort of flattened because of the incorrect settings. I think the video card (built in) of the motherboard is an Intel 3150.

Googling around, I've learned that 6 Series Chipset blah blah is generally driven by the snd-hda-intel driver. But when I modprobe that, it isn't magically connecting to this audio chip. My kernel is Linux 2.6.27.8 #1 SMP Thu Sep 23 17:21:53 GMT 2010 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600S CPU @ 2.80GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux (derived from Slax 6.0.9) Is there a place I should be going to find newer drivers? Or perhaps there is some bleeding edge patch I should be applying? (Intel's web site is useless. They only give Windows drivers for audio. I did get the ethernet working by using their latest e1000e driver.)
Ubuntu Multimedia :: Audio Not Working For Intel Motherboard DG33BU?
Feb 14, 2011This is a problem that I have had since Ubuntu 8.04 when the sound on my system stopped working. I have an Intel DG33BU motherboard with audio onboard.
I originally had 7.04 installed on the system (sound worked fine) and did an upgrade to 8.04 for a couple of reasons and found the sound no longer worked.
I have since upgraded to 10.10 and despite trolling various audio threads have yet to get the sound working again. I have noted that when the system boots up there is a quick message (approximately from memory) 9.32.0061: audio codec not found for hda-intel.
Is there a troubleshooting guide or information someone can point me toward as I would like to solve this problem?
I have been trying to use the information at [URL]... otingProcedure to work through the problem.

Debian Configuration :: Can't Unmute HDA Intel Sound Card?
Aug 3, 2010According to HDA Analyzer, my sound card is muted; however, I can't unmute it through HDA Analyzer or anything else. According to alsamixer, everything is unmuted, though. According to the ALSA documentation, there's no 'model' id for my codec -- Conexant 5069 -- so I don't have an option to put in /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf. What can I do to unmute the card???

Debian Hardware :: Lag On Every 5 Min Or So With Intel 7265 WiFi Card
Sep 13, 2015I have an intel 7265 AC wireless card. When I try to download something my estimated download time is tripled almost every 5 mins.And when I play an online game from steam (cs:go or dota2) the ping goes to 250-300 ms which generally stays around 80ms. I'm using debian jessie. So far, I've tried turning of the power save mode of the card, changing ISP and router but none of them worked. I have a fairly good internet connection (I'm using it with my other machines without a problem) so I don't think the connection or router is the problem. Ubuntu :: Sd Card Not Recognized - How To Make It Recognized
Jun 2, 2010I just installed Ubuntu 11.04. The drive was formatted when I installed so it's 100% Ubuntu. The only major problem I have encountered is that Ubuntu will not recognize my SD cards. I really need to access these cards, all my film footage is on there. I think the internal SD card reader (If such a thing exists) would have been deleted during the installation process. I am a greenthumb to Ubuntu and have never used it before so I am rather stuck...

Sep 11, 2011Got this new motherboard and it's running 11.4 of Opensuse and it works great. Even got the DVI working with the monitor with help of instructions I found here. However the sound is poor and the volume controls just as bad. According to the motherboard docs it has THX Tru Studio sound pro, a Intel H67 (B3) chipset. Six audio ports. And the chipset integration by Realtek ALC837. I have tried to find this information in the sound setup with no luck. What was selected was the Intel model (no other specifics was found). According to the Alsamixer it says HDA Intel PCH and the card and chip is set as PulseAudio. What should the sound card be set to other than Intel?

Jun 8, 2010First time I am having issues with Centos.
I bought a Intel DQ45CB LGA Q45 Micro ATX Motherboard and I am installing the 64 bit version of centos.
The install of Centos goes just fine. However when I first try to boot up, after post is done, I get a blank screen. I do not even get on the Grub screen. No access to any of the ttys. No access to anything, files, folders. I only get a blkinking cursor, no command prompt, nothing.
This happened with Centos 5.2 and 5.3
Just for the hell of it, I installed XEN Xitrix and I have no issues like that.

Aug 10, 2010I just installed Debian 5.0 onto my laptop (Dell e6410) and it appears to boot and run fine, except that it does not recognize the network card (it did not do so during the installation). It also does not seem to recognize the wireless card.I have an ethernet connection, but running ifconfig displays only the local connection.I have tried adding -nomodeset and -noacpi to the boot menu, but that does not seem to change things

Sep 13, 2010I have just reinstalled testing on a Samsung Q30 and I cant get X to start. I am just left with a blank screen and ctrl+alt+Fn does nothing. I had a previous install of testing that worked fine but it might have been running a previous version of the kernel, or I had installed a bug fix to do with 915resoultion that I can't remember about. Booting off a Slax live cd works fine but I have had similar problems with Knoppix and Ubuntu.
I am running LXDE but I previously tried Gnome and had the same problem. Running xander displays cant open display Running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg returns nothing, as does Xfree86 -configure There is no /etc/X11/xorg.conf or installed by default, I have tried running startx with a custom xorg.conf and the automatically generated one from -configure. The automatic one did not include any resolutions and was configured for a dual head set up although there was only one monitor connected.
I thought it may be the same problem as this:[url]
But I have tried following the bug fixes on that site and I have had no luck.
