According to HDA Analyzer, my sound card is muted; however, I can't unmute it through HDA Analyzer or anything else. According to alsamixer, everything is unmuted, though. According to the ALSA documentation, there's no 'model' id for my codec -- Conexant 5069 -- so I don't have an option to put in /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf. What can I do to unmute the card???
I've recently installed stable (5.x, I think that's lenny...) on a laptop and there's no sound at all.
I had this problem years ago when I last installed linux on here. I solved it then and I thought the solution was unchecking "external amplifier" in alsamixer.
I believe my sound card (Intel 82801DB-ICH4) is detected and the appropriate driver loaded (snd_intel8x0) however, even running speaker-test produces no sound (no error either).
I've read that the intel hda have a model parameter found by greping for codec in /proc/asound/card? but I can't find any information about what codec is used in any path like that. Is there a model parameter for this card too? I'm on a philips freeline X10 laptop.
I ran alsaconf and nothing seemed to change. I tried alsactl init but the command init wasn't found, I suppose that must only be in newer releases. I installed libesd-alsa0 to replace libesd0 but that didn't help (should I revert this file? libesd0 says it's for oss). I also appended "options snd_intel8x0 index=0" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base which got the card registered as the first device.
I was just given a computer from a coworker and installed the latest Slackware version on it. I then installed Gnome Slackbuild and installed the Nvidia driver.I've run alsaconf and it seems to run fine without any errors and unmuted all the channels in alsamixer.
how to install alsa drivers along with Asus xonar dgx sound card. I followed these instructions. URL....And until "Setting up modprobe and kmod support" instructions were clear. I should put something in /etc/modules, but I dont down exactly what.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 with an Intel 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller, and no sound output. I have both pulseaudio and ALSA installed. I have already checked with
Code: alsamixer that my sound isnt muted and aplay -l outputs this Code: xxxx@xxxx-ubuntu:~$ aplay -l
I am been using Fedora 14 on my HP mini for a few weeks now. Everything was working fine. However, since I have updated my system a few time using yum upgrade. I can no longer get the sound working.
If I go to Menu | multimedia | pulseaudio sound control
All the volumes levels are at 100%. However, the mute button is muted and everything I press it, it remains muted.
sound on laptop running linux mint 9 isadora after restarting or if computer is idle. when the computer is idle for a while the sound will stop working even though it doesn't show muted. after restarting i have to run alsamixer and the master tab will be muted. i can unmute and it will work until the computer sits idle for a while.
I seem to be having sound issues on CentOS 5. When I run the sound card configuration, my sound card is recognized and the test sound plays fine but there is no sound coming out of any applications. This just started today and I have made no changes to my computer or installed any new software.
I have recently moved to 9:10 and I found some problems with the sound card Intel. Reading some posts I managed to partially solve the problem and now I hear the music perfectly but only from the headphones: but I need to "unflug" external amplifier in gnome-alsa-mixer each time I reboot otherwise I not even feel the headphones
I have installed a Ubuntu Server 10.10 with fluxbox as X. Everything works fine except the sound. Either speakers or with headsets, it does not work at ALL. This is some informations that could help you. I need to listen music
I have a toshiba netbook, and I'm running linux slackware 13.The sound card is an HDA intel. So far I've ran alsaconf and configured the above mentioned sound card. I've also gone into the alsamixer and unmuted everything and turn the volume up.I get absolutely no audio.
I just bought a new graphics card and installed it. it works perfectly although my sound worked perfectly this morning and I think the graphics card is overriding my built in sound card. I need help fixing the sound. The graphics card I bought is an ATI Radeon Cedar HD 5450 The sound I want to use is HDA VIA VT82xx when I run alsamixer I get Card:
I have an intel 7265 AC wireless card. When I try to download something my estimated download time is tripled almost every 5 mins. And when I play an online game from steam (cs:go or dota2) the ping goes to 250-300 ms which generally stays around 80ms. I'm using debian jessie. So far, I've tried turning of the power save mode of the card, changing ISP and router but none of them worked. I have a fairly good internet connection (I'm using it with my other machines without a problem) so I don't think the connection or router is the problem. Below you can find some information about system.
I recently purchased a Genius "SM-Live Value 5.1 Audio 5.1 Channel PCI Acceleration Card.". I see from the the User's Manual that it works with "Linux" and I'm pleased to confirm that it works very well with Debian Squeeze (although, after inserting the sound card in its slot, when I rebooted I got a dark sceen shortly after the Grub menu and the kernel wouldn't boot until I disabled the onboard codec in the BIOS). The Genius soundcardI is recognized as:~$ lspci | grep audio03:01.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 (rev 10) The question is this: I get sound for either the speakers or the headphones by inserting their green phono plugs into the socket of the sound card at the back of my desktop computer but I don't get sound from the similar socket on the front. With the onboard audio device, the front socket works perfecly. At the moment, I'd like to have my two speakers permanenly plugged into the new soundcard at the back of the PC and reserve the front socket for the headphones. I'd also like to try "surround sound" some time. I've been digging around and found this ALSA Multi-channel Audio mini-HOWTO. But is all this somewhat convoluted configuration necessary just to unmute the front phono socket or am I missing a simpler solution?
I get no sound with kernel 2.6.30-2-686 or 2.6.32-5-686. Works fine in 2.6.26-2-686. Card is found, it accepts streams but plays nothing to either internal speakers or headphones.
I have several computers based on ECS G41T-M motherboard, featuring ICH7 chipset with VIA VT1708B 8-ch audio codec. I've installed Debian Lenny 64-bit on it. The sound itself works, but mixer does not, thus, for example, I can not get my recording app working, changing volumes does not work etc.
I'm relatively new to debian, but an intermediate linux user. I've just installed wheezy and I'm having trouble setting sound up. When plugging my headphones in via the motherboard, sound works fine. Great. I plugged in my USB Sound Card (Audiobox 44VSL) and no dice. It's set as card 1 under aplay -l, yet no sound. I know this box works on GNU/Linux because I used to use it in Xubuntu a couple years ago with no problems at all.
Since I started to use Suse 11.3, I've been having problems with my sound card. It starts normally and I can use it without further problems, until it randomly stops working. I don't know what causes it to stop working, it just does. Then, if I go to YaST>Hardware>Sound (it shows I have a 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller), press edit then reset, it works again!
I've been doing this for like 4 months, but I'm growing tired of doing it and not being able to just sit back and enjoy music on the amarok. I don't know what should I report, so that's why I only say the sound card identification.
I'm trying to make things work on my laptop. Almost done, but there is one hardware issue left. I have a Intel HD4400 graphic card. But it seems that it is not recognized. I had an issue loading Gnome3.
Code: Select allGNOME 3 Failed to Load
Unfortunately GNOME 3 failed to start properly and started in the fallback mode.
This most likely means your system (graphics hardware or driver) is not capable of delivering the full GNOME 3 experience
Another thing : Code: Select all$ grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log [ 29.117] (EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOPUTCMAP: Invalid argument
Also, if I go in "applications" ->"system tools" -> "Preferences" -> "System settings" and then in "Details, under Graphics I have "Drivers : unknown", "Experience : Fallback".
And as a consequence, I can't use dual-screen. If I plug another sreen, I have an exact copy, not even with a good resolution.
I search on the web for solutions, but I didn't understand much. I don't know what Xorg is, x-window, etc...
Ok first off, I love debian, but on my new notebook I am getting a little frustrated with the terrible, video performance.Direct rendering is enabled on both systems, and openGL is working (I can if I wanted to use compiz etc...) fine on both systems, just running slow on debian.
I have tried Lenny, Squeeze and Sid, I have compiled the intel driver (and Mesa3D) from git and got it working (I am sure its working because its given me a slight boost), I ahve also tried building the latest stable (and RC2) kernel. If I install ubuntu 9.10 I get pretty decent 3D performance, its not ground breaking, but hey its an intel chipset so I am not expecting to kick the latest nvidia / ati card's backside.I really dont want to use ubuntu, I find it unstable when compaired to debian, but I also want to be able to play the odd game when I am bored, and at the moment I just cant do that under debian
Go to "/lib/modules/2.6.32-5-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/" and delete the e1000e.ko-file
Then download [URL]
Take the newly downloaded e1000e.ko-file and move it to "/lib/modules/2.6.32-5-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/"
And finally load the module with either: "# modprobe e1000e" or "# insmod e1000e".
You should now have a working ethernet connection.
If connection is lost on system restart try rmmod e1000e; modprobe e1000e
I've for the first time installed linux (debian) to my computer. And I have a problem with ethernet that I can't solve.
I have a Asus Sabertooth P67 motherboard with built in ethernet card, I cant find any drivers for linux, I've tried google, Asus support page etc, but can't anything that says it will work with my computer, just a alot of windows drivers.
where I can find the drivers? Or if there's another way to solve the problem. When installing Debian i could choose between different drivers but no one worked, I've also tried with my motherboard CD but there was just windows drivers...
I can't get the sound to work. The soundcard doesn't seem to be corrupted (works on both Hackintosh and Windows 8 ), but it looks like alsa won't recognize it on Debian:
aplay -l aplay: device_list:268: no soundcards found...
I debate whether to place this under Server or under Multimedia, because it's both. I have Server 10.04 installed on a Foxconn Intel Atom board. For one of it's duties, I hope to set it up as a jukebox with Subsonic. I plugged in a pair of headphones and set about testing. Long story short, I have no audio from them, although I can get a light hiss when using sound-test. (I will have no GUI on this machine. Everything will be done through terminal or through a browser.)
Using lspci, I have this: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
Using aplay -l, I have this: **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC662 rev1 Analog [ALC662 rev1 Analog] Subdevices: 0/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC662 rev1 Digital [ALC662 rev1 Digital]
I tried to install the latest stable version of Debian (download yesterday : Debian Wheezy 7.4.0) on my new computer Fujitsu Celsius W530.The version installed is exactly this one (given by the commande "uname -a") :
PCNAME 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.54-2 x86_64 GNU/Linux => A Debian Wheezy 64 bit
I have a problem with the Intel ethernet card : I217-LM (the model was verified on the Fujitsu specifications and also on the Windows 8 I use on another partition).During the install procedure, Debian did not find the ethernet card.I continued the install without it and after I tried to make it found.I got a Linux driver in the Intel Web Site but I saw after that Debian loaded yet this driver (e1000e), so I did not install the driver from Intel (I needed to get linux-headers and to compil the files).
So when I force the system to load the driver, it gives no error but the device is still not found when I try to bringup the network interface.URL...
- understand why I see the Device (with "lspci" command) and the module "e1000e" (I tried also the "e1000" one) loaded with "lsmod" command ? - make the card work to allow my debian for connecting to internet ?
Here some commands which can show you the problem : Code: Select all~# lsmod | grep e1000 e1000e 120822 0 root@PC-DEV-JB-debian:~# ll /lib/modules/3.2.0-4-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/ethernet/intel/e1000e/e1000e.ko -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 184K févr. 2 02:04 /lib/modules/3.2.0-4-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/ethernet/intel/e1000e/e1000e.ko
I have recently installed the intel-wireless-tools and now my laptop detects my wireless router and connects to it but when I go into a browser I can access the internet. If I connect to the wired network no problems(same router) no go on Wireless.
