Ubuntu Multimedia :: Audio Not Working For Intel Motherboard DG33BU?

Feb 14, 2011

This is a problem that I have had since Ubuntu 8.04 when the sound on my system stopped working. I have an Intel DG33BU motherboard with audio onboard.

I originally had 7.04 installed on the system (sound worked fine) and did an upgrade to 8.04 for a couple of reasons and found the sound no longer worked.

I have since upgraded to 10.10 and despite trolling various audio threads have yet to get the sound working again. I have noted that when the system boots up there is a quick message (approximately from memory) 9.32.0061: audio codec not found for hda-intel.

Is there a troubleshooting guide or information someone can point me toward as I would like to solve this problem?

I have been trying to use the information at [URL]... otingProcedure to work through the problem.

Output:

WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf.083110, it will be ignored in a future release.
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf-bak, it will be ignored in a future release.

Hardware :: Get Audio Working On A New Intel DQ67EP Motherboard?

Apr 18, 2011

I'm trying to get audio working on a new Intel DQ67EP motherboard. lspci -v shows:

Code:

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Unknown device 200f
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 7

[code]....

Googling around, I've learned that 6 Series Chipset blah blah is generally driven by the snd-hda-intel driver. But when I modprobe that, it isn't magically connecting to this audio chip. My kernel is Linux 2.6.27.8 #1 SMP Thu Sep 23 17:21:53 GMT 2010 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600S CPU @ 2.80GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux (derived from Slax 6.0.9) Is there a place I should be going to find newer drivers? Or perhaps there is some bleeding edge patch I should be applying? (Intel's web site is useless. They only give Windows drivers for audio. I did get the ethernet working by using their latest e1000e driver.)

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Microphone / Audio Capture Not Working Hda-intel Realtek ALC880

Apr 6, 2010

I'm using openSUSE 11.2 KDE on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi 1536 laptop. My problem is that my microphone (I'm attempting to use a 3.5mm headset) doesn't work. Audio playback however does work through the built-in speakers and headphones.

I have gone through the SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE as suggested by oldcpu on the Welcome to multimedia sub-area sticky.

I have tested audio recording with

Code:
arecord -vv -fdat foo.wav resulting in a silent recording. The vumeter showed 0% during the recording.

Here is my url produced by the alsa-info script:[URL]

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Audio With The MSI H67MA-E35 Motherboard?

Sep 15, 2011

Just installed opensuse 11.4 using a new motherboard, the MSI H67MA-E35. According to the book that came with the Motherboard it has a Intel H67 chipset and a "HD audio codec integrated by Realtek ALC887". Also have an older Hauppague TV card installed in the system. Not setting the sound quality I would expect. By this I mean that the audio played by webpages is low. And the audio played by the TV card is distorted. The volume control is ineffective. The only way I can adjust the volume is by the control on the speakers. Perhaps it is just as simple as setting opensuse to use a different soundcard?

I have run the script also-inso.sh and the results were uploaded to: [URL]..

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Intel HDA 5 Series Audio - Muffled Sound

Jan 31, 2010

I recently received my new multimedia laptop - an HP Dv7. I proceeded to install Ubuntu 9.10 on it and I've had no end of troubles with the sound card including, muffled sound - seemingly only coming from the LFE channel, only stereo controls in pavucontrol, failure to send sound out the HDMI port, headphones not working and not cutting of the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.

I believe that all of this will be solved if I get the appropriate driver for my card. I have searched around and sound in particular has tons of posts from many people all with slightly different problems, solutions and hardware. None of the solutions seem to be working. Also I just tried booting from the live CD and the sound is the same - no 5.1 and just muffled sound. I think my sound card is just too new and there doesn't exist a proper driver for it yet.

Here's what I get with lscpi:
Code:
% lspci | grep Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 05)
01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation Device 0be2 (rev a1)

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Intel HDA Headphone Muting Audio

Dec 6, 2010

I've decided to get back into using Suse as my primary OS! I'm almost there, only a few minor issues to work out remain. One of these issues is with my audio drivers. My audio is working for the most part. I have sound coming from both my speakers and the front-audio jack. When I plug headphones into the front jack the audio is muted; however, unless I unmute the audio I won't get any sound from my headphone jack. The volume is shared. How can I give headphones a separate volume control? Or just completely mute my speakers when I have headphones plugged in. Using alsamixer, Headphones are disabled. Which seems odd. The output of alsa-info.sh can be found here.

Debian Multimedia :: Intel HD Audio - Headphones/Speakers Level ?

Mar 20, 2011

This is a Lenovo L512 laptop with Intel HD Audio (Realtek ALC269 / Intel G45 DEVIBX) which was recently upgraded to Squeeze. I've been having trouble using the headphones on this machine, as the speakers continued to play while the headphones were connected. I normally use KDE, and the available mixer only offers one channel. I thought I might be able to manually silence the speakers by using the command line tool alsamixer. Unfortunately, alsamixer has a channel for the headphones, but it doesn't do anything, only master volume is controllable. By luck I decided to play around with Gnome today and to my great surprise, System -> Preferences -> Sound offers complete control over all functions of the audio hardware. Does anyone know how I could get these features working under KDE?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound On Sony Vaio VPB-EB1E0E / Intel HD / Realtek Audio (any Version)

May 1, 2010

Not exactly sure but tried several fixes and I'm now getting sound.

Not overly loud but decent enough. Funnily enough it sounds louder inside a windows virtual machine!

I've managed to get everything working including built in webcam on my laptop. The only thing I can't get is sound.

I have a Vaio VPC-EB1E0E which has "Intel HD Audio" . sound worked in Windows when I first booted up and used a Realtek Audio driver.

I'm using Kubuntu 10 RC1 - 64 bit (unable to get any earlier version of U/Kubuntu to work - unable to get Fedora to work either).

Debian Multimedia :: Audio Crackling On High Volumes With ALSA On Intel ICH7

Aug 23, 2015

I'm having some issues with audio crackling/buzzing when turning up the volume, or on songs that have overclipped / overdriven parts, which doesn't happen on Windows (on it those sections are just "dampened"). Is there some certain settings in ALSA that are used to deal with this? Or is it something specific to the driver for the hardware? Speaking of which I'm using some integrated audio which goes by the name of Intel ICH7, and the chip itself is Analog Devices AD1981B.

I'm only using ALSA, without PulseAudio, and I've made sure the volumes both in the media players and under alsamixer aren't turned too high (PCM is at 47% and "Headphones" -- what is "Master" on Windows and on other soundcards under Linux -- is on 22%), so it isn't an issue with the software mixer being turned up too high. Also I'm using a pair of quality headphones (Sony MDRV55) so it's not an issue with the analog audio output either. I've also tried multiple other headphones and the result is the same.

However the sound is poor and the volume controls just as bad. According to the motherboard docs it has THX Tru Studio sound pro, a Intel H67 (B3) chipset. Six audio ports. And the chipset integration by Realtek ALC837. I have tried to find this information in the sound setup with no luck. What was selected was the Intel model (no other specifics was found). According to the Alsamixer it says HDA Intel PCH and the card and chip is set as PulseAudio. What should the sound card be set to other than Intel?

Hardware :: No Audio From Motherboard M3a32 MVP Deluxe Wi/Fi / Ubuntu Lucid 10.4?

May 24, 2010

Intro: Let me start by saying I've spent two days researching this issue and resolution. I am a noob to Linux, but I've done tons of research as I like to resolve my issues on my own. From the time I've spent with Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid over the past couple of weeks, I'm loving it and want to stick with it. I have it dual booting on my Laptop with no issues.

System:Motherboard: M3a32-MVP Deluxe Wi/FiVideo Card: ATI Radeon 3870 512 GBRam: 8GB corsair (4x2GB)HDD: Uh, several, there are 5 HDD's installed on my system with several OS's.Problems: No Audio from MB, Raid controller not working. My main concern right now is my audio. I have 2 512 GB Maxtor drives in Raid0 running Win7 Ultimate that I can't access, but like I said, the audio is more important.

I have audio coming from the HDMI port in the video card, but it's choppy. I'd rather use my MB's audio device anyway so I can utilize my surround sound system. I've obtained the Linux drivers from ASUS but don't know how to install them. Besides that, in sound preferences, it appears to be loaded and I've tried every combination of settings possible. And before you ask.. It's not muted, (this seems to be the typical first smart a$$ response to noobs regarding sound).aplay -l

Ubuntu Multimedia :: App For Working With Audio CD Images?

Feb 15, 2010

Is there a Linux app for mounting and playing audio CDs from image files? I have saved disc images of nearly all of my CD collection, but I have yet to find any convenient way to play them.

Because of the nature of CD audio, every CD image has an accompanying .cue file, so there are actually 2 files (*.iso or *.bin and *.cue) from each disc. VLC Media Player will play DVD .iso images directly, but doesn't know what to do with audio CD images (or the .cue files).

Mounting and unmounting the images at the command line is tedious, given the very long file paths. I'd rather have a GUI-based app. Does any such thing exist for Linux?

FWIW, Acetone ISO doesn't work. It doesn't want to mount my *.iso format CD images. Probably some funkiness of the CD audio format. I think it is what the Acetone devs call a "multi-sector image." Likewise for the *.bin images of CDs.
