Debian Hardware :: RT2400 Doesn't Work With Intel's Motherboard+P4?
Mar 13, 2010
changed my computer to PC with intel motherboard and Pentium IV the problems with wifi started. OS (Linux and Windows) see the device, connects with netwoks, but it is impossible to surf the net or even ping my gate (over 90% packets lost). I have tested it with Debian Leny, Ubuntu 7.1 and 9.04, OpenSuSE 11 and Windows XP, I have tried several drivers, changing slot.

I want to start using Ubuntu again but I gave up ages ago trying to get it to work with my Gigabyte EP45-DQ6 motherboard.I cant run from disc and I can't install. If I try to run it just takes me to a black screen with blinking cursor and that's all it does.If I try to install, basically the same.I can't get anywhere doing anything, so where do I start? How can I get it working on my system?By the way, this is with the latest Ubuntu. No, it's not a corrupt download or burn. I tried to download and burn, didn't work.I ordered a free cd, it did the same. This is an issue that is NOT related to the disc or the download of Ubuntu.

I have a Gigabyte mainbord with an Intel IHC9 sound chip. When I configure it via YAST the test-sound plays fine, and when I issue:
sudo speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
some friendly voice starts speaking as well.
But:
speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
doesn't bring about anything sound-like.
My settings are stored at:

Wireless networking doesn't seem to work. When I try to create a new network interface with system-config-network, my wireless card doesn't show up. The following comes from dmesg:

I saw a post about this elsewhere and downloaded some firmware drives from [URL] and installed then. But, I'm really out of my league when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Installation of opensuse 11.0 11.1 11.2 and Enterprise suse 11 was successfull. After grub menu i get blank screen. It`s blank for about 60 - 120 sec and then appear Suse loading page and loading bar. This also happens if i change to text mod. But in text mod i can see what`s going on. First 5-10 lines are informations about partitions and then i get output just like on this link. Yfrog Image : yfrog.com/5nimag0108djIf i hit any key (in graph and text mode) booting will continue to opensuse loading screen and loading bar.I have tried installations on one workstation and one server and didn`t have this problem.

I am using Ubuntu 11.04 on an Intel D510MO motherboard as a low-end surfing computer. The monitor, a Viewsonic VA1926w, has a maximum resolution of 1440x900. However, the monitor preferences shows a maximum of 1024x768 only. How can I bring up the resolution to 1440x900? The screen seems sort of flattened because of the incorrect settings. I think the video card (built in) of the motherboard is an Intel 3150.

I'm trying to get audio working on a new Intel DQ67EP motherboard. lspci -v shows:
Code:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Unknown device 200f
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 7
[code]....
Googling around, I've learned that 6 Series Chipset blah blah is generally driven by the snd-hda-intel driver. But when I modprobe that, it isn't magically connecting to this audio chip. My kernel is Linux 2.6.27.8 #1 SMP Thu Sep 23 17:21:53 GMT 2010 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600S CPU @ 2.80GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux (derived from Slax 6.0.9) Is there a place I should be going to find newer drivers? Or perhaps there is some bleeding edge patch I should be applying? (Intel's web site is useless. They only give Windows drivers for audio. I did get the ethernet working by using their latest e1000e driver.)

This is a problem that I have had since Ubuntu 8.04 when the sound on my system stopped working. I have an Intel DG33BU motherboard with audio onboard.
I originally had 7.04 installed on the system (sound worked fine) and did an upgrade to 8.04 for a couple of reasons and found the sound no longer worked.
I have since upgraded to 10.10 and despite trolling various audio threads have yet to get the sound working again. I have noted that when the system boots up there is a quick message (approximately from memory) 9.32.0061: audio codec not found for hda-intel.
Is there a troubleshooting guide or information someone can point me toward as I would like to solve this problem?
I have been trying to use the information at [URL]... otingProcedure to work through the problem.
Output:
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf.083110, it will be ignored in a future release.

Got this new motherboard and it's running 11.4 of Opensuse and it works great. Even got the DVI working with the monitor with help of instructions I found here. However the sound is poor and the volume controls just as bad. According to the motherboard docs it has THX Tru Studio sound pro, a Intel H67 (B3) chipset. Six audio ports. And the chipset integration by Realtek ALC837. I have tried to find this information in the sound setup with no luck. What was selected was the Intel model (no other specifics was found). According to the Alsamixer it says HDA Intel PCH and the card and chip is set as PulseAudio. What should the sound card be set to other than Intel?

First time I am having issues with Centos.
I bought a Intel DQ45CB LGA Q45 Micro ATX Motherboard and I am installing the 64 bit version of centos.
The install of Centos goes just fine. However when I first try to boot up, after post is done, I get a blank screen. I do not even get on the Grub screen. No access to any of the ttys. No access to anything, files, folders. I only get a blkinking cursor, no command prompt, nothing.
This happened with Centos 5.2 and 5.3
Just for the hell of it, I installed XEN Xitrix and I have no issues like that.

Built a machine w/ i5-4440 & gtx 960. I installed xserver-xorg-video-intel & xserver-xorg-video-nouveau. Xorg -configure fails, so I added xorg.conf I found online, makes no difference. xrandr can't open display. startx of course fails.
Backstory: My plan was to dual boot sid + stable as fallback with shared partition. First installed stable and whether connected to mobo or gfx card, I couldn't get login on tty, it would just hang on errors. So I installed sid (this time using lvm to hopefully make partitioning easier) and while I get the "failed to load nouveau" errors on mobo, gfx card gives me a login screen.

I upgraded to OpenSuse 11.2 and just about the only thing that doesn't work is my wireless internet. From my research, I should be using the iwl4965 or iwlwifi driver; however my system seems to be running iwlagn. I have no idea how to switch it as neither of the correct drivers can be found in my yast, and I've failed to find any information about this on the Intel® Wireless WiFi Link drivers for Linux* website.

My wifi does not work in the actual debian testing jessie lxde amd64 with wicd version (fresh install). What I've done:
0. Fresh testing jessie install (offline and ignored the question for adding iwlwifi)
1. Adding following sources:
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free
2. apt-get update
3. apt-get install firmware-iwlwifi
4. modprobe -r iwlwifi ; modprobe iwlwifi
So searching the web just brings up the wheezy way solution (backport new kernel and iwlwifi).
But in this case, actual jessie testing kernel is already installed by default and so the actual 43 firmware-iwlwifi
Some information:
Code: Select all# dpkg -l |grep -i iwlwifi
ii firmware-iwlwifi           0.43               all     Binary firmware for Intel Wireless cards
Code: Select all# dmesg | grep wifi
[Â Â 7.890216] iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: irq 107 for MSI/MSI-X
[Â Â 8.478878] iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: firmware: direct-loading firmware iwlwifi-7260-9.ucode
[Â Â 8.479867] iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: loaded firmware version 23.214.9.0 op_mode iwlmvm
[Â Â 8.553105] iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: Detected Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless AC 7260, REV=0x144
[Â Â 8.553193] iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: L1 Enabled - LTR Enabled
[Code] ....
I must add: lxde Debian uses Wicd, so network-manager is not installed !
Wicd seems to be the problem. After changing to network-manager, everthing is ok.
Next install with the official Jessie release, i will look, why wicd not work out of the box.

If a mechanism is controlling fan speed dynamically there must be a processor involved especially if it is PWM. Is BIOS the code regulating this and does a temp sensor interrupt the CPU to run the code? Is there a Micro controller on the board so the CPU is not involved?

I'm trying to install Debian on Dell XPS L501, and there are lots of problems...
1- Resolution is 800x600! I guess, I need to add that there is no xorg.conf file, and I couldn't create it by running `Xorg -configure`. It said the number of screens didn't match number of detected devices or something like that! I'd be really happy if this gets solved!
2- Ctrl+Alt+F1/2/3/4/... doesn't work! Sometimes Alt+Directional keys works. but most of the time it doesn't!
3- I can't get the loud speakers to work, and I couldn't compile Alsa from source... I'll try again, but does anyone know if there is a specific package I need to install to get them to work? (Realtek ID 665)
4- Keys are not working right... Function keys don't work... But the worse thing, is that if let's say Fn+F2 is supposed to disable wireless, F2 does!

I have run into a problem with eSATA that so far I have been unable to find a solution to it on any of the Ubuntu or Intel forums. My set up is as below:
OS: Ubuntu 10.04.01 LTS Server (base install)
Motherboard: DP55KG
BIOS: ver. KGIBX10J.86A..5893.2010.1116.0001
Marvell Controller: 88SE6145, BIOS 1.2.0.31
[Code]......
My understanding is that Ubuntu is suppose to detect the eSATA drive without any extra drivers, my experience is it does not - I am missing something or is anyone else having/had this problem and been able to get eSATA to work?
page [URL] but I don't believe this applies to Ubuntu.

I have a motherboard Gigabyte H110M-H DDR3 1.0 and a VGA Nvidia NVS 300 (It doesn't have HDMI connector, but after Debian installation, it shows audio HDMI), After installling Debian 8.4 Jessie amd64, I noticed the sound doesn't work, the motherboard audio codec is a Realtek ALC887, I don't have a HDMI Monitor, nor my VGA has HDMI Connector, but is a little bit strange that Debian recognizes HDMI Audio, if a run "# cat /proc/asound/cards" it shows me two audio cards, the HDMI and the ALC887 and if I run "# cat /procs/asound/modules", both cards are using snd_hda_intel. It is installed PulseAudio and Pavucontrol, I have checked if the audio was muted, but the sound volume is set to 100%, I don't know what to do anymore... I have a computer with a realtek codec too, but it's another model ALC665 or something like that, and the system is equipped with an ATI HD 5450 with HDMI Audio, I have checked the what modules the Debian is using, and both uses the snd_hda_intel, but the sound works with HDMI and Realtek Codec.

I'm trying to install Debian 5.0x to my miniITX computer.
Setup:
I had this setup running in a previous configuration. The only difference were the disks. I had a 120GB and a 1TB (/home). Because I need more space I swapped both disks for 2 x 2TB.
I tried a 64bit Debian 5.xx stable install. Everything goes fine until the first boot. After the POST and BIOS screen a cursor justs blinks and the computer does nothing. the computer doesn't start GRUB
Well I thought maybe a small error with downloading the DVD so I tried another debian but Testing now. There the setup hangs when it wants to make the file-systems. It says something like can't make ext4 filesystem. I also tried with ext3. So I manually tried to do fdisk and mkfs.ext4 (and mkfs.ext3) for both disks in the console during installation. fdisk works but when I try mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda1 it says that some bin-file is missing? How's that possible on an installation disc? Never ever had that before?
Well after 15 attempts (meanwhile lost 2kg of fingernails)I tried another 32 bit DVD install of Debian 5.xx. It can make the filesystems again and install everything but when it has to boot for the first time it just doesn't. I don't even see GRUB.
Seems to me that the computer doesn't refer to the HD to boot. In the BIOS the BOOT order is just fine (the previous config with the old HD's just worked fine). Even when I put in the install DVD it skips the HD and boots from the DVD?
I really don't get it. The disks are both shown in the BIOS. Is this a hardware or software issue? I think that Linux or GRUB should be able to work with 2TB discs isn't it?
