I have server with Xeon E5620, 8 GB RAM, three 1TB hard drives which are in sw RAID 5 and two 250GB disk which are in sw RAID 1, all of this on Intel S5500BC motherboard. Installation of opensuse 11.0 11.1 11.2 and Enterprise suse 11 was successfull. After grub menu i get blank screen. It`s blank for about 60 - 120 sec and then appear Suse loading page and loading bar. This also happens if i change to text mod. But in text mod i can see what`s going on. First 5-10 lines are informations about partitions and then i get output just like on this link. Yfrog Image : yfrog.com/5nimag0108djIf i hit any key (in graph and text mode) booting will continue to opensuse loading screen and loading bar.I have tried installations on one workstation and one server and didn`t have this problem.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Intel Motherboard H67MA-E35 (B3) - Sound Is Poor And The Volume Controls Just As Bad

Sep 11, 2011

Got this new motherboard and it's running 11.4 of Opensuse and it works great. Even got the DVI working with the monitor with help of instructions I found here. However the sound is poor and the volume controls just as bad. According to the motherboard docs it has THX Tru Studio sound pro, a Intel H67 (B3) chipset. Six audio ports. And the chipset integration by Realtek ALC837. I have tried to find this information in the sound setup with no luck. What was selected was the Intel model (no other specifics was found). According to the Alsamixer it says HDA Intel PCH and the card and chip is set as PulseAudio. What should the sound card be set to other than Intel?

I was wondering why is this happening. I didn't get those on 11.3.Just to add my openSUSE boots normally and seems to work as expected. My graphics card/driver combo is :

Ubuntu :: Resolution Of Viewsonic Not Correct On Intel Motherboard

I am using Ubuntu 11.04 on an Intel D510MO motherboard as a low-end surfing computer. The monitor, a Viewsonic VA1926w, has a maximum resolution of 1440x900. However, the monitor preferences shows a maximum of 1024x768 only. How can I bring up the resolution to 1440x900? The screen seems sort of flattened because of the incorrect settings. I think the video card (built in) of the motherboard is an Intel 3150.

Hardware :: Get Audio Working On A New Intel DQ67EP Motherboard?

Apr 18, 2011

I'm trying to get audio working on a new Intel DQ67EP motherboard. lspci -v shows:

Code:

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Unknown device 200f
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 7

[code]....

Googling around, I've learned that 6 Series Chipset blah blah is generally driven by the snd-hda-intel driver. But when I modprobe that, it isn't magically connecting to this audio chip. My kernel is Linux 2.6.27.8 #1 SMP Thu Sep 23 17:21:53 GMT 2010 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600S CPU @ 2.80GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux (derived from Slax 6.0.9) Is there a place I should be going to find newer drivers? Or perhaps there is some bleeding edge patch I should be applying? (Intel's web site is useless. They only give Windows drivers for audio. I did get the ethernet working by using their latest e1000e driver.)

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Audio Not Working For Intel Motherboard DG33BU?

Feb 14, 2011

This is a problem that I have had since Ubuntu 8.04 when the sound on my system stopped working. I have an Intel DG33BU motherboard with audio onboard.

I originally had 7.04 installed on the system (sound worked fine) and did an upgrade to 8.04 for a couple of reasons and found the sound no longer worked.

I have since upgraded to 10.10 and despite trolling various audio threads have yet to get the sound working again. I have noted that when the system boots up there is a quick message (approximately from memory) 9.32.0061: audio codec not found for hda-intel.

Is there a troubleshooting guide or information someone can point me toward as I would like to solve this problem?

I have been trying to use the information at [URL]... otingProcedure to work through the problem.

This happened with Centos 5.2 and 5.3

OpenSUSE Install :: Find Hard Drives On System - Motherboard With Two SATA Controller Chips

Aug 2, 2010

I just finished a build of a new GNU/Linux boxen with openSUSE 11.2. I have a MSI Big Bang Xpower X58 motherboard which has two SATA controller chips, one is the standard Intel ICH10R chip for SATA 3.0 Gb/s and one is the Marvell 9128 chip for SATA 6.0 Gb/s. The BIOS recognizes the Western Digital Caviar Black 6.0 Gb/s drive on either SATA controller chips, /however/ I am unable to install (and boot) when the drive is connected to the Marvell controlled ports. As you can guess, I'd like to boot from the faster interface!

1. The BIOS allows me to select the Western Digital drive as a secondary boot device, so I know, at least at the BIOS level, it's there. This is true whether I have the drive connected to the Intel or Marvell ports. (The DVD drive is the primary boot device.)

2. When trying to install openSUSE 11.2 from DVD, the installer says that it can't find any hard drives on my system when I have the drive connected to the Marvell port. The installer finds the drive fine when it is connected to the Intel port.

3. I installed everything with the drive connected to the Intel port. I switched the drive to the Marvell port afterward and the system refuses to boot completely, stalling at some point where it starts to look for other filesystem partitions. This led me to conclude that perhaps the problem is with openSUSE and not hardware weirdness with the system having two separate SATA controllers?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Intel I7 HD Graphics Gives Black Screen Sometimes On Boot Kernel 2.6.37 Rc7

Dec 30, 2010

Just a little background I have a sony vaio VPCZ119X laptop and have been struggling to get all components working under linux especially the intel graphics. I saw that once I upgraded to the latest available kernel release which currently is 2.6.37 rc7. The intel graphics is working, but sometimes when I boot I get a blank/black screen but seems to be lit up. All other functions seem working so for example I am able to login etc just that I dont see anything on the screen.

I have tried the following so far to identify the issue or isolate it:

- Switching to the console screens has no effect, still the black / blank screen.

- Restarting the system does not always immediately get the screen working, sometimes it takes a couple of reboots before the screen is available

- I have a switchable graphics with nVidia I never get this problem when I use the nvidia driver

- I have tried closing the lid etc as suggested in the below post without any change in output, will try further as there are other options available as well The "Black Screen" on Boot I see one difference between both the Xorg log files but I am not able to reason out why this happens hence I will just supply the files here and try not to theorize.

Xorg.0.log - This was the log output when I got the X display working Xorg.o.log.old - This was the log output when the X display was black/blank Also to highlight that I am using the latest kernel release that is still being tested I guess so maybe it is also a bug in the kernel?

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.1 To 11.2 - Update Or New Installation With Intel 915 Graphic?

Apr 14, 2010

I should install a new openSuse 11.2 or if I should make an Update-Installation from DVD (see openSUSE 11.2 Installation Quick Start Installation Mode: Select Mode - New Installation / Update / [...]) or an Update Installation via Yast. Now I am using openSuse 11.1 and Gnome 2.24.1 (mostly, 1 account is using KDE) and Kernel Linux 2.6.27.45-01.1-pae. "/home" is on an separated partition (as part of an extended partition).

Contra new installation?:

- I have an Laptop (Samsung x20) with integrated intel 915 graphic and an very hight resolution (1400x1050). The monitor's resolution is not listed in the bios of the graphic cart/solution. Because of that I had many problems with my fist installation of suse/openSuse linux.

- Will I have problems to keep my old accounts?

Pro new installation?:

- Sometimes funny system reports (mostly about ICE).

- I have been logged in as root in Gnome (as I had some problems with (no) audio, the digital optical audio out is still not running).

- I think the fist installation was a few years ago maybe I had been to often "bold".

OpenSUSE Install :: OS 11.3 Freezes Randomly On Atom / Intel 945

Jul 30, 2010

I just upgraded my system from oS 11.2 to oS 11.3 on Thursday. I've chosen the network-CD and booted from an USB-pen-drive, as my netbook doesn't have a CD-drive.I new experience that my computer freezes obviously randomly. It's not just a programme crashing, but the whole computer just halts. Nothings working anymore - mouse is not moving, keyboard doesn't respond, I can't even switch to another tty.I tried to remember what I was doing right before the crashes. Once I used the new netbook-desktop of KDE and had typed for an application in that "cool" new desktop. The desktop wend "blank" (the application folders disappeared and I was waiting till the results were shown) and then the computer froze. Just right now I used Okular, selected some text and opened the context-menu when the computer died, the other time I closed the Yakuake with F12 and the computer didn't respond just right before the window was minimized at the top and last but not least I had that "Expose"-like window arrangement opened and clicked at the black background when everything hang up.

What could be the reason for it? oS 11.2 worked perfectly - I hadn't had any crash during 5 months of intense use. I suspected the new graphics driver, but I can't find any reported bug about the Intel 945 GMA* or anything about the new KDE 4.4.4 on atom processors.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Can't Boot In After Motherboard Change / What To Do?

I've recently changed the motherboard of a redhat server that's been running fine otherwise. The new motherboard is different to the old one. I can't boot in now; getting "Kernal panic: VFS : Unable to mount root fs on 00:00" messages. I've run mkinitrd to rebuild the image file and have changed the grub.conf line to point to the new image file but it still occurs.

title Red Hat Linux (2.4.25)
root (hd0,0)
kernal /vmlinuz-2.4.18-14 ro root=LABEL=/
initrd /initrd.img.2.4.18-14

However; during the bootup I spy some "unknown IDE device" errors along with some "IRQ resource cannot be reserved" and/or "Could not enable IDE device" or similar messages. As per attached image.

I can detect the harddisk when I bootup using rescuecd and that's how i rebuilt the image file. I have tried changing the "ro root=" to "ro root=/dev/hda3" or other hdax figures; but still the same.
