Ubuntu :: Intel GMA G41/43 Video Driver Tuning?
Feb 24, 2011I have a Asus 54G43-Pro mobo with Intel GMA G43 video chip on it. It works fine in Ubuntu and using the same display with the same settings, under Maverick in comparison with Lucid, the video is a little more sharp and with more contrast. I have dual boot with Windows and in Windows it is even less sharp and contrast.
In Windows I can tune the sharpness, contrast, etc but I was not able to find a simlar features in Ubuntu. I have checked the Synaptic and even installed some Intel GMA files but I still have no access on tuning the video driver. Is this possible in Ubuntu and possible to be hidden somewhere or I can just forget about it?

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Intel Video Driver Problem With Mobile 4 Express (GM45) Chipset Using X11?
Aug 10, 2009Perhaps someone has run across this problem I loaded CentOS 5.3 on an AOpen MP45-BDR workstation. It uses the Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset for the video graphics. It is officially identified as: GM45 chipset (Intel GMA X4500 MHD).
There are two problems. Using the "intel" video driver, the X11 server does not appear to support digital video cable (DVI interface). It is also stuck in 1024x768 resolution and I want it to display in 1280x1024 resolution. Using a DVI cable, the system boots and displays properly (GRUB and boot messages) until the X11 server starts, then the signal is lost. The system is configured with a dual boot (Windows XP Pro) and Windows operates properly and supports all of the features of the video graphics chipset (DVI and full resolution). So the hardware is ok.
The "intel" video driver has a description of "Experimental ..." so maybe there is an update to this driver or a replacement driver that supports this chipset. I checked the buglist and found CentOS bug ID 2951 which is somewhat similar. The user was utilizing the "intel" video driver and it locked his system but changing the driver to i810 was a work-around. My system does not lock. I did try the i810 video driver but the X server did not like it - it would not start. This makes sense since the description of this driver specifies support for the older Intel onboard chipsets.

Slackware :: Xorg, Intel Video Card, And Vesa Driver / Xserver, Hangs Hard In A Blank Screen?
Jul 15, 2010Here goes the problem: I have a Amilo M7400 notebook with an Intel 82852/82855 GME video card, and X is a bit uncompatible with it.I've tried using the vesa driver in the xorg.conf, but when i start Xserver, it hangs hard in a blank screen. I can't open a new terminal and control+alt+backspace won't work.
what can i do? is there a log file for X which details the initialization of it?

Sep 20, 2010I've installed 10.04 netbook on an old Fujitsu Amilo L1300 laptop, with an Intel i845 graphic card. As I know, it would run just OK with the 2.11.0 drivers, but i have no idea how to install that. I've downloaded the driver, and every package written on the page: [URL] At first I couldn't even ./configure the install, but now the configuration runs smoothly. However I cannot finish the make part, because it gives an error.

Debian :: KFreeBSD - How To Install Intel Video Drivers
Jun 8, 2011Feel stuck between Debian and BSD worlds - not sure where to turn.
Running GNU/kFreeBSD debian 8.1-1-amd64 and base system working. Can not get X or xrandr to co-operate and use proper resolution of 1680x1050. I believe the basis of this is that it using the VESA drivers and instead should be using the INTEL drivers.
I have no 'pkg_add' for ports, plus obviously no Debian repos will help for this .... unless there are some specific kFreeBSD repos I dont know about? I can post more details on the system, but am hoping that there are other options besides compiling. I can do that if need be, but not even sure which one to use. Will these work on this system? Jul 16, 2011I am running Opensuse 11.4 on a file server, based on an Intel Atom motherboard with 945G graphics chipset.I recently shut down and then rebooted the server (because I needed to switch off the power for a few minutes) after it had had been running quite happily for several weeks since the last boot. Now I cannot start X - it gives up after the line(EE) intel(0): failed to set mode: Invalid argumentI've tried googling but am none the wiser what could have caused this, or how to fix it. Jan 12, 2009Installing new Intel server S5000VSA (Sapello) motherboard with RAID 1. Downloaded F10 32 bit DVD and run install. Everything works fine and select Samba and all that. Install completes but on reboot get a blank screen.
I know with Windows one has to load the RAID driver off the Intel driver CD, so guess that is the problem. But how do I do this in Fedora? Question: How do I get to select the Intel RAID driver in the install process? There does not seem to be any place to stop and make this selection. I tried selecting the Red Hat and Suze installs on the Intel configuration assistant but it then reboots and that is it. In Windows it would ask to insert the Intel driver CD but that does not happen. So I am stuck. I loaded Fedora some 3 year ago and like it but then it was not on a RAID setup. I created a VMWare install on my desktop and did the same install options and it works. So the DVD seems fine.

Ubuntu Installation :: X201 Black Screen On Bootup With 10.04 RC (can't Get Intel Xorg Driver To Install)
Apr 27, 2010Pretty much what the title says.. a few more details:
- I installed 10.04 using the alternative install so I've been doing all this in safe mode
- I installed a newer kernel (2.6.33) and still black screen
- I tried to install an updated Intel xorg driver, but I kept getting dependency errors (xorg, x11, something else)
I read another thread on this forum from a user who is using the same platform (Intel HM55), and I got stuck at the last point (can't get Intel xorg driver to install).

Oct 1, 2010I have installed xubuntu 10.04 on a HP Pavilion dv1049ea and am having trouble installing the drivers for the graphics card. When installing i had to use the boot option -xforcevesa in order to get the screen working. Now that it is installed there is constant screen flicker but apart from that all other aspects of the system are working fine. In the display menu i am unable to change the refresh rate. How do i change the running driver from vesa to the correct intel driver? The graphics card is an Intel Graphics 82852/82855.

Apr 26, 2010I have an older Dell Latitude (with an atitude). I noticed that scrolling down web pages and such has been painfully slow. I didn't have that problem with Windows installed and so it just goes to reason that the video driver is not right. I selected "display driver update" (or something like that) from one of the menus. It saw that I needed an update to the nVidia driver. I authenticated the request and it downloaded and supposedly installed the update. Now I have no video. I get the splash screen and the start-up scripts but then after it loads, it goes black.
I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer with Linux because I've primarily been an operator with it for years. I never had any admin privileges until I finally decided to install it on my home systems. That being said, what do I need to do to get this to work?

Jul 6, 2011I have an integrated intel video and latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver(using only stable repo). Now I wanna watch high-res video. From the bits of info collected from all over internet I understood that I need to:
1.aptitude install libdrm libva.
2.compile or find the .deb mplayer-vaapi and install it.
3.add -vo vaapi -va vaapi to the mplayer command line in gnome-mplayer.
My question : is that correct or did I miss something? Do I have to compile latest libdrm and libva or the ones from the squeeze repo will be good? Do I need kms enabled, i.e. install firmware-linux-nonfree?

Jan 23, 2010I'm running a slightly upgraded Dell Inspiron B120 with 2 Gig RAM, 200 Gig HD. I recently switched this laptop from XP to Ubuntu 9.10. After many a long hour, I was able to get World of Warcraft running under wine but its slow to the point of being unplayable. I was used to slow gameplay on this laptop under XP, but 0 fps is a new low. Dalaran (the notoriously laggiest place in the game) is a joke. There's a 5-10 sec lag between hitting the button to move and actually going anywhere. I took all the video settings down to the minimum and did a regedit to add a key for wine.
Basically I tried all the tips and tricks I could find (including creating an xorg.conf file since I didn't have one). Nothing I did worked. I can be in the most remote, unpopulated spot in the game and I can't get more than 3fps. Somewhere I read that I should install a proprietary driver for my video card (intel GMA 900). So I went out and downloaded xf86-video-intel-2.10.0 and ran the configure script that came with it. It came back and said

so I went out and found Xorg-Server-1.7.1 and ran its configure script which gave me

I tried setting $PKG_CONFIG_PATH to /etc/X11/ with no joy.
Now I am new to linux but in poking around the file system I did see /etc/X11/ which had some stuff in it. To me that says that I've got X11 installed but then again I've been using linux since breakfast so what do I know? What do I need to do to install a proprietary video driver -OR- what can I do to get the game running well enough to be playable (short of walking over to my windows desktop computer)?

Apr 13, 2010I am attempting to make a video machine only... which mean I have a Compaq 6435cl and I have installed the latest verion of ubuntu on it. All I want this machine to do is play video from off the net on my LCD HD TV. The video on board was all choppy when going into full screen mode so I put in a 3dfx Voodoo card and the same thing happens. I cannot figure out how to install the drivers for this card in ubuntu so I was wondering if I should by a new video card. Do you have a recomended video card for ubuntu that would push HD video?

Oct 24, 2010I've been trying to install the newest video driver from Nvidia (v240) which uses a .RUN file in Ubuntu 9.04
I have been unable to completely shut down X in order to install it. IF you try even alt-ctrl-F1 it still insists on being out of X or the GDM. I've messed up my system 4x trying various things including renaming the xorg.conf file to 'old.xorg.conf' and 'Xsession' to 'old.xsession' thinking I could reverse the problem easly.
