CentOS 5 Hardware :: Intel S5000Vsa And RAID Driver With Centos 5.4?

Dec 31, 2009

I've a Centos 5.1 server on S5000vsa Intel board with 6 bay HD in raid 1 mode (2 HD), and working fine until I've decide to make a yum update. Today the Centos is 5.4 but seems necesssary to upgrade the megasr driver for the raid function (i.e. , is not possible to contact the raid firmware trought Web Console 2). I've download the last megasr driver from Intel and I follow the instruction to upgrade the driver with s.o. installed, but when I start the server and choose via grub the new img boot file, the display show :

megasr.ko invalid module format -1 and stop. The linux version is the same in the machine (uname -a) and from the driver (2.6.18-164.9.1.el5). Another question : in Intel instruction spoken about megasr.o , but on img file I found a megasr.ko . I think instructions referre to old linux 2.4

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Using Asus P6T Built-in Intel RAID - CPU Fan Fails And The System Halts - Recover Data?

Jan 20, 2011

The situation: computer based on Asus P6T motherboard. Two RAIDS:

- 'boot', on motherboard built-in RAID controller (CentOS 5.5 installed on this RAID)
- 'data' on 3dware RAID card

At one moment a CPU fan fails and the system halts. After the fan is replaced, BIOS informs it's reset and all the inner controller data are forgotten. After I switch it to 'RAID' mode, it remembers it was a mirror raid (RAID 1) installed, but the file system on it is completely trashed.

The 'data' RAID run by external controller isn't affected by the system failure. Three questions:

- is it worth trying to install OS on the rebuilt 'boot' RAID once again? Looks like if BIOS settings are lost for some reason, there's chance of completely losing RAID data
- has someone encountered similar problem with built-in RAID nd was it possible to recover data?
- will the software RAID be worth creating instead of using hardware RAID to replace the 'boot' drive?

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Intel Video Driver Problem With Mobile 4 Express (GM45) Chipset Using X11?

Aug 10, 2009

Perhaps someone has run across this problem I loaded CentOS 5.3 on an AOpen MP45-BDR workstation. It uses the Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset for the video graphics. It is officially identified as: GM45 chipset (Intel GMA X4500 MHD).

There are two problems. Using the "intel" video driver, the X11 server does not appear to support digital video cable (DVI interface). It is also stuck in 1024x768 resolution and I want it to display in 1280x1024 resolution. Using a DVI cable, the system boots and displays properly (GRUB and boot messages) until the X11 server starts, then the signal is lost. The system is configured with a dual boot (Windows XP Pro) and Windows operates properly and supports all of the features of the video graphics chipset (DVI and full resolution). So the hardware is ok.

The "intel" video driver has a description of "Experimental ..." so maybe there is an update to this driver or a replacement driver that supports this chipset. I checked the buglist and found CentOS bug ID 2951 which is somewhat similar. The user was utilizing the "intel" video driver and it locked his system but changing the driver to i810 was a work-around. My system does not lock. I did try the i810 video driver but the X server did not like it - it would not start. This makes sense since the description of this driver specifies support for the older Intel onboard chipsets.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 10.1 Driver For LSI RAID On Intel S3000AH

Feb 13, 2010

Short story: Correct driver for 10.1 for the raid on the Intel S3000AH board?
Long story: This system crashed due (I think) to a bad memory module, had been running fine for 2 years, had been an upgrade from Suse9. The hardware is fixed but I get "GRUB" repeating on the screen when booting and that is all. I can't seem to find opensuse drivers for 10.1 (that is what I believe is on the system, I believe the data is still intact and don't want to compromise it if possible) It will not load the 10.1 drivers from the intel site, presumably (?) because they are for SLES, not opensuse. I can boot from a 9.3 CD with the drivers from the intel site, and can see the original partitions.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Hosed Intel DP35DP Centos 5.3 Upgrade?

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Installing CentOS 5.4 X86_64 On Adaptec RAID 3405

Jan 13, 2010

My problem is that I'm trying to install CentOS 5.4 x86_64 DVD ISO on Supermicro X7SBI server with installed Adaptec RAID 3405 controller.

I created RAID 5 array and is working fine (adaptec status says Optimal) but I can't install CentOS to that array (1.5TB size).

Whenever I try to install with: linux dd

I'm asked for a driver, which I have downloaded from Adaptec site and extracted contents to USB drive (in installation found as /sba1) which has now a lot of IMG and some ISO files on it.

I try to load (I simplified names) RHEL5.img, CENTOS.img... with x64 names (one exact name: aacraid driverdisk-CentOS-x86_64.img) and I always get the error message: "No devices of the appropriate type were found on this driver disk"

This is going on for a week now and I can't find the right driver or something I'm doing wrong to get install done.

Fedora Installation :: 10 - Get To Select The Intel RAID Driver In The Install Process?

Jan 12, 2009

Installing new Intel server S5000VSA (Sapello) motherboard with RAID 1. Downloaded F10 32 bit DVD and run install. Everything works fine and select Samba and all that. Install completes but on reboot get a blank screen.

I know with Windows one has to load the RAID driver off the Intel driver CD, so guess that is the problem. But how do I do this in Fedora? Question: How do I get to select the Intel RAID driver in the install process? There does not seem to be any place to stop and make this selection. I tried selecting the Red Hat and Suze installs on the Intel configuration assistant but it then reboots and that is it. In Windows it would ask to insert the Intel driver CD but that does not happen. So I am stuck. I loaded Fedora some 3 year ago and like it but then it was not on a RAID setup. I created a VMWare install on my desktop and did the same install options and it works. So the DVD seems fine.

I looked for drivers on DELL web site and there is driver for Red Hat 6. I tried to install it using linux dd command but it doesn't recognize. Is there anybody else who met such problem ?

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Connect A RAID Box To The Server Via LSI 8880EM2 RAID Controller

Aug 3, 2010

I am trying to connect a RAID Box to the server via LSI 8880EM2 RAID controller. The raid box is FUjitsu Externus DX60 with raid 1 configured. The server is Fujitsu Primergy SX300 S5 with LSI 8880EM2 RAID card. The external raid box is being recognised by the raid controllers bios.

The server runs CentOS 5.5 64bit. I have installed the megaraid_sas driver from LSI website and MegaCLI utility but CentOS still fails to see the box.MegaCLI utility, when launched from CentOS, recognises the raid box, CentOS does not(no mapping being created in /dev).

I have also tried to create a logical RAID0 HDD on one physical HDD(as seen by MegaCLI) with MegaCLI utility in CentOS.The result was success and the new logical drive could have been used, but when restarting the server, the controllers' bios fails with an error (not surprised(one logical RAID0 on one physical HDD)) and configuration is being erased.

Has anyone tried connecting 8880EM2 controller to a raid box with raid configured on the box, running it all under CentOS and what were the results.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: RAID Or Non-raid HBA Recommendation?

Dec 10, 2009

I am going to be using CentOs 5.4 for a home storage server. It will be RAID6 on 6 x 1TB drives. I plan on using an external enclosure which is connected via two SFF-8088 cables (4 drives a piece). I am looking to try and find a non-RAID HBA which would support this external enclosure and allow to use standard linux software raid.

If this is not an option, I'd consider using a hardware based raid card, but they are very expensive. The Adaptec 5085 is one option but is almost $800. If that is what I need for this thing to be solid then that is fine, I will spend the money but I am thinking that software raid may be the way to go.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: CentOS 5.3 3 Disc Software Raid 5 Array - "hardware Failure" Messages At Bootup

Apr 28, 2009

I've just setup a new centos 5.3 server with a 3-disc raid 5 software RAID array. I've setup other software raid 5 arrays on this same hardware, whilst testing, and had no trouble... I only just installed 3 new drives and performed a new install from scratch.

Hardware is: 4800XP X2 64-bit, 2GB RAM, Albatron KI-690G mainboard with Marvel SATA controller (I think) - 4 ports.

SATA port 0 is system drive (OCZ vertex 32GB SSD)

SATA port 1 is Western Digital "green" 1TB 8MB cache SATA 2
SATA port 2 is Western Digital "green" 1TB 8MB cache SATA 2
SATA port 3 is Western Digital "green" 1TB 8MB cache SATA 2

Ports 1-3 in software raid MD0 (raid 5)

All of this was configured in the GUI setup, with LVM on top of software RAID 5 mounted on /var. Partition size is ~1.9TB

Trouble is I get all sorts of "hardware failure" messages at bootup and the MD driver reports it was only able to bring up 2 out of 3 drives in the RAID set... however the RAID set formatted fine during the setup?

Here is the relevent dmesg output...
