Jan 2, 2009We all know we can install a linux system such as Fedora 10 and use it. Being linux, one should in principle get the source codes for everything that has been precompiled (except the proprietary drivers such as nvidia) in the installation DVDs/CDs. Where are the source codes ? Is there a place I can download them ?
To avoid confusion, I am not referring to the kernel source that can be compiled to give a linux kernel, but that does not include the drivers, such as intel_drv.so.
To be more specific, the intel graphic i810 driver has been built into any linux system, but where is the exact source? One answer may be that primary source intellinuxgraphics.com. However, if anyone tries to download the every changing (i.e., keep updated almost every single day) driver source codes from freedesktop.org, it is almost certain that the source codes will not be the same as the one that is finalized in Fedora 10.
CentOS 5 :: Tftp-server Package Not Available In I386 Repo?
Sep 21, 2011So I'm playing around w/ some Cisco equipment and needed a quick tftp server. Go to command line and type yum install tftp-server. I get No Package available! I can clearly see it here on the i386 repo. Any ideas?? In the meantime, I'm just going to upgrade this lil 600m laptop to CentOS 6 to quickly solve the problem but I thought it was curious.

May 29, 2011I decided to break free from the horrible life of a windows vista user. I like my new debian (Wheezy) installation and everything worked fine so far. Now I stumbled upon a huge problem. When I want startup and login into my gnome installation the first application I open gets to play sound and others after that just don't work. I looked endlessly on google but in my understanding the problem is within the ALSA driver.
Some specs :
OS version : Debian 7 (Wheezy)
Laptop brand : Packerd Bell Easynote LJ-65
Kernel installed : 2.6.38-2-686 (Standard one in wheezy)

when I try to load the package php-mysql-5.1.6-23.2.el5_3.i386.rpm I get the following problems :-

Software :: Qsynth - Failed To Create Audio Driver (ALSA)
Feb 11, 2010I've installed both fluidsynth and qsynth, but get this error everytime I run qsynth. I'm trying to use my m-audio keyrig 49 just to practice playing the piano. I don't really care about having a whole DAW and whatever, I just want to play my keyboard. Maybe there is a better way than qsynth? Also, this happens:

I checked the wine config and there was only OSS option that I think it would not help me to get sound working. I think I have to use Alsa Instead but I don't know how to add Alsa support to wine. By the way in need DirectSound as well. should i download it myself and add it to system32 or there is a better way?

Nov 15, 2010I have also posted this as a question in ubuntu launchpad but I figure I have more of a chance coming across a solution this way- as I had been struggling with no sound issue (and other issues for so long now!) I first had alsa driver version that came with this 2.6.32-25 preempt kernel: ALSA driver 1.0.22, I believe. My maudio soundcard was detected but I couldn't get sound so I found a suggestion in ubuntu forum to install lucid backports. This created 2.6.32-25 generic kernel which I didn't want since I need low latency (and still had no sound). I tried at first to compile and install Alsa driver 1.0.23 (following Ubuntu Sound Troubleshooting Guide), having booted into the preempt kernel- but ALSA driver 1.0.23 only installed into the generic backport kernel. So I proceeded to remove the 2.6.32-25 backport generic kernel via synaptic.
I once again only have my original preempt kernel 2.6.32.25 and 2.6.32.21 in my grub list. I discovered that I had no soundcard detected and no more ALSA installed, according to 'aplay -l' & 'cat /proc/asound/version' 'cat: /proc/asound/version: No such file or directory' so I proceeded to try to install Alsa driver 1.0.23 twice more but each time I get:

CentOS 5 :: Downloading CentOS 5.4 I386 Bin DVD Iso?
May 11, 2010I am trying to download CentOS 5.4 from the following link[URL].. CentOS-5.4-i386-bin-DVD.iso 02-Oct-2009 12:35 3.7G I have downloaded it twice with chrome and the size I received twice is 1.99 GB (2,147,417,640 bytes)
Is this correct or I am doing something wrong. I am reluctant to try another mirror because I guess they all will point to the same file.
