CentOS 5 Networking :: Reinstall Network Driver After Changing Motherboard?

Jan 17, 2010

I have a newly installed CentOS 5.4 on Gigabyte G31M-ES2C, I had to change the motherboard since it has some problems. Unfortunately the new motherboard is a rev 2.x board, which has a different onboard NIC (old one is RTL 8102E, new one is AR8132), so now my ethernet connection doesn't work anymore (no eth0 device), I assume I need to install a new driver for the AR8132? If so, what's the steps to do so?lspci shows Ethernet controller as: Attansic Technology Corp. Atheros AR8132 / L1c Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev c0)

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Can't Find ATHEROS L1E Lan Driver ASUS P5KPL-CM Motherboard

Apr 8, 2010

I am trying to clone a working Centos 5.4 system onto a new box with a ASUS P5KPL-CM motherboard. I have done so by plugging in a Realtec lan card - but can't get the motherboard lan working. Googling tells me the motherboard has a Atheros L1E lan chip - but I have installed several kmod drivers from ELREPO - but still can't get the on-board lan working. So far I have installed:

kmod-atl1e
kmod-atl1

I have just installed these with yum - but no new hardware appears in the network gui dialogue. Am I missing some step here - or is there another driver I should be looking for.

Ubuntu Networking :: Need To Reinstall Wireless Driver After Reboot

May 28, 2010

I've been searching forums like for 2 days, but couldn't find any similar problem.
First of all im running Ubuntu 10.04 desktop version on my netbook Acer aspire one (AOD150)
Every time i turn off my netbook and after turn it on, in "Hardware drivers" it says that driver for wifi is not in use, also button for switching on/off wifi is not working.
So everytime i start up i have to go into "Hardware drivers", remove driver for wifi, and then activate it again. And everything is working gr8 after. Its just too annoying to do it everytime.

Ubuntu Networking :: Creating Script To Remove And Reinstall Windows Driver

Nov 28, 2010

I am running 10.10 on a Samsung n130. Occasionally my wifi adapter locks up, everything looks like it is connected but I cannot connect to the web. I have worked out that removing and re-installing the windows driver brings it back to life (a restart also works). What I was wondering is could it be possible to create a script that would carry out the removal and installation of the driver with one click of a button.

Hardware :: Kernel Panic After Changing Motherboard - Volume Group Missing?

Jun 11, 2010

I have a CentOS 5.4 storage server with LVM/RAID1 setup, I need to change the motherboard from Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2C to Asus P5K-E. After the switch, I got kernel panic during boot (the following is copied manually from the screen, is these stuff recorded somewhere in the log? I checked /var/log/messeges but didn't find anything):

Code:

Scanning and configuring dmraid support
md: Autodetecting RAID arrays
md: autorun....
md: ... autorun DONE

[code]....

I used CentOS CDROM and entered rescue mode to take a look, some findings:

1. Initially the drive label is different from my old system, for example the old sdb became sdc. I switched the SATA cable around to get this sorted out except one IDE drive (originally hda, now hde), but this drive is not used in RAID

2. After the label is fixed, I used mdadm to check RAID1 devices (md0/1/2/3), it seems each device is missing a drive (originally md0 is created by sda1+sdb1, now it's just sdb1, and thus degraded). I used mdadm to re-add the missing drive, mdadm --detail shows everything is fine now.

3. Step 2 didn't fix the error, so I "chroot /mnt/sysimage/" and took a look around, all the directories seem fine, include the ones on "main" volume group. vgscan/vgdisplay/lvdisplay shows all the vg and lv as they should be.

Ubuntu Networking :: How To Reinstall Network

Nov 14, 2010

How can I reinstall network. I remove dhclient3 because chkrootkit identified it as a possible issue. Well, now I have no internet. I am running from the live cd for ubuntu right now.

I was told to copy files. I tried to copy files but was unsuccessful. I did not see 'dhclient3'.

Is there a way I can reinstall the all of the network part for ubuntu?

I can just reinstall all of ubuntu, but I have some pictures on the drive now that I do not want to lose. Also, unfortunately, I do not have enough storage as I am out of dvds and the usb drive I have is too small to hold all the movies that we recorded with the digitial camera.

I installed SELinux, Chkrootkit, ClamAV, AIDE, and set up UFW firewall. I wrote it all down, so I can do all of that again if needed. I just don't want to lost my videos / pics.

Networking :: IP Keeps Changing Between Network Cards?

I have another pc running the same services (except DNS) in a very simillar way and no alert logs from that one.onder if it is some configuration issue on my startup firewall script.I've also installed arpwatch and I could confirm this IP and physical address issue:

Ubuntu Networking :: Changing The DNS In Network Manager?

Oct 19, 2010

I am on my University network. I am using Network Manager. The default setting is Automatic (DHCP) which, AIUI, means my IP and DNS is set automatically. If I change it to Automatic (DHCP) addresses only then I should be able to set my DNS. However, when I enter the OpenDNS server, although /etc/resolv.conf does change, I connect to my wireless network but have no ability to send / receive any data. Removing these settings and returning to Automatic (DHCP) enables me to send / receive traffic again.

However, I can use a VPN which does change the DNS settings. In Network Manager the setting is Automatic (VPN). My /etc/resolv.conf changes to:

domain my domain.ac.uk
search my.domain.ac.uk
nameserver vpn dns
nameserver vpn dns
nameserver university dns

And I can connect and send / receive as normal.

I can understand that my University has blocked the ability to change the DNS. What I do not understand is how I can change the DNS with a VPN but not manually?

Ubuntu Installation :: Error On Boot "Read Error After Changing Motherboard Battery

Dec 2, 2010

I changed my motherboard battery last night, and now get "Read Error" on booting to Ubuntu, on dual boot system. This is the most frustrating thing in an otherwise great operating system. It is the second time I have encountered this issue (last time was a change of power supply). I fixed it last time after three days of re-loading Grub2 and playing around Grub 2 updates, etc. Fixed it eventually, but as usual, no idea of what eventuality fixed it. I think I found a web page buried deep in the 'net, which talked about device.map. Do you think I can find it again - not yet - day 2 searching for the answer... This is what the grub script tells us:

Slackware :: Bridging Two Network Interfaces On The Same Motherboard?

Oct 5, 2010

Just recently set up a Slackware 13.1 partition. I'm really enjoying how it works so far, but I have one problem I just can't seem to find the right solution to, and was hoping for some assistance. Here is the basic setup. The Slackware box has eth0 connected to my wired router, and eth1 goes to an xbox running Xbmc. What I require is that the Xbox gets it's own DHCP IP from the router. In other versions of Linux I accomplish this by using bridge-utils. In Arch Linux I accomplish this by having this in /etc/rc.conf:

Code:
eth0="eth0 up"
eth1="eth1 up"
br0="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(lo eth0 eth1 br0)
and this in /etc/conf.d/bridges:

[Code]...

I know I'm close here, but I just can't get it to bring the network up with the bridge by restarting the networking, or rebooting.
