So, now that I got http://bit.ly/h70Nnf sorted out, how come doesn't my Mobloquer show anything in the log. I'm used to Peer Guardian 2 in Windows and I know it has to show some more stuff than nothing.. Your help is sincerely appreciated cuz I'm so new to Ubuntu. FYI: Mobloquer and Peer Guardian 2 are IP blocking programs.
View 2 RepliesAnyway since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 when I right-click on something and there is another menu in that menu, it doesn't show up for the first time!
for example if I want to create a an "Empty File", I'll right-click on desktop and when I want to go to "Create Document" menu, it doesn't show up! so I must click somewhere else and try again so for the second time it works!!
So, I am relatively new to Ubuntu (a few weeks in). I am running Lucid dual booted with Windows Vista at this point. I have installed the Mobloquer GUI for better privacy. That seems to be going pretty well, except that it is making it difficult for me to connect to the yahoo chat server. I am running Pidgin. The other servers I use (AIM, Google) use one IP address each for their chat connections and I have whitelisted those addresses. However, it seems that Yahoo uses a different IP address every time. Whitelisting whatever IP it tried last doesn't work. I tried to put in a range - with that, Mobloquer would not start up at all - something about an invalid IP mask.
I realize that this is the Ubuntu forum, not specific to Moblock (or Mobloquer) but when I google problems with Mobloquer the results are almost all here. So, I hope that those with knowledge will chime in anyhow.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMobloquer starts up at boot and before I've even opened firefox or transmission or anything, mobloquer shows that is has started blocking several outgoing connections as well as ton of incoming connections. I was wondering if the outgoing connections is normal and what's a normal amount of network activity to show up in system monitor when I'm not actively using the internet.

but when i try to access internet in my other laptop, i cant do it unless i disable mobloquer in the first laptop,
but with mobloquer switched on(in the first laptop), i can use utorrent on the second laptop but cant browse any websites (using firefox or chrome !)

I an trying to install ubuntu onto my old Windows XP computer, I have burned the **** with the ISO files on it with a Mac and also tried using Windows 7, they have the files when I load them on those, but when I go to put the disk in my Windows XP computer it say's the disk is blank. I reboot my computer, and it doesn't try to install anything.

I'm experiencing overheating problems, after just 15-20 minutes of minimal use (surfing the internet, not even watching flash vids or any other vids). The same laptop under Windows 7 64 bit stayed really cool.
I've read several posts here and followed this manual: [URL] to try to control the fans (I only installed the lm-sensors and ran the sensors command, I didn't do anything beyond that). Specifically what I did was install lm-sensors (via apt-get), ran sensors-detect which advised me to add the coretemp module to /etc/modules, which I did.
However when running sensors the only information I get is the overall temperature and the temperature of each of the cores.
why I'm not getting fan speed info when running sensors? Also is there a way to find out if more modules needs to be added to /etc/modules?

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhy the bootloader won't show up when I turn on the PC. The only things that come up with search results are 'Why ubuntu isn't on the boatloader' but my problem is is that the boot loader doesn't even SHOW UP.
Installation went completely fine, downloaded a version 10 32-bit iso file and then put in the folder with wibu and it asked me to restart. Restarted the PC, nothing came up so I thought you might have to restart again, restarted again, still no bootloader.
After looking in the 'Add/Remove Programs' of Windows it does say it's installed, so why the bootloader isn't showing up is rather mindbobbling.
I have a new netbook - "Eee PC 1005PE-PU27-BK" and installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04, Kernel Linux 2.6.32-24-generic. I love Ubuntu, but I also want to be able to access Windows 7 if I can. I'm facing a boring problem and I cant understand why it is happening. Im running Evolution 2.28.3 on Ubuntu 10.04, and all the messages are not showing their images. I already did the following confs:
1) Change proxy to connect "Directly to the internet"
2)In Preferences, "Load images from contacts".
3)I tried the option "Load Images" ou CTRL+I.
I have an ASUS M4A785-m and it has the Realtek 8112L gigabit nic. The weird thing is, the 10.10 rc saw the nic card just fine, and windows sees the card so it's not disabled in the bios.
Ubuntu says i have no network connections and i need to get internet. Any suggestions?
I should also note that i'm running from the livecd and lspci shows that it detects my NIC. but my NIC isn't "detected" in that it can be used.
I've just upgraded to Maverick and as the Me menu works with Empathy I started to use it as my default IM client.
But no matter what I do, it won't show my picture.
I tried resizing the picture to 96x96, I tried to convert it from jpg to png. I tried uninstalling the program with apt-get remove --purge. I tried also removing the ~/config/Empathy directory and all others related to the program and then reinstalling it but nothing seems to work.

Nautlius doesn't show all the files that are in a folder From the screenshots below you can see that there are more files in the folder (ls from the terminal shows them all), however nautilus doesn't. Other .mkv files show up in other folders so its not that
I've tired turning off previews and that didn't work. Running nautilus as root didn't work either
I installed it from a cd and it wouldn't work. (froze in the process). I then tried to install it through windows wubi and that didn't work (wouldnt boot) since I was unaware it was a known issue and thought it was me doing something wrong I uninstalled it,reformatted the hard drive and tried to install via a cd again this time it fully iinstalled but when I rebooted it tells me unable to mount drives and a shell will be shown.
in the end I have no files on ubuntu so I would like to clean up all reminance of the previous installs and be able to use a working install. since I have been installing and reistalling for the better part of 8 hours.Yexcuse the post sloppiness using my phone)
I have maverick meerkat. I'm tryting to play a video but it has a VP7 codec and VLC will not play it. I installed mplayer but it doesnt show up in the sound and video menu options. I have Movie Player but not Mplayer Movie Player?

After searching very long for the problem in Linux and GRUB2 I decided to boot into XP, witch gave me the option for Windows 7 or older versions of Windows -> so I eventually can boot to it! So here is the real question: How can I make an entry for Windows 7 and for Windows XP? This is because I'd like to use a theme for GRUB and it would be to stupid to make GRUB look nice if I then come to a stupid screen of the Windows loader!

It shows about 3.4 to 3.6GB of RAM (please see attached picture).I thought that if I could install a 64-bit OS that would mean that I have a 64-bit capable processor. I thought using a 64-bit release would show all 4GB or RAM on my PC. What am I doing wrong? My CPU is a Pentium 4 Prescott DT 630.

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 onto my second hard drive, and now I can't boot into Vista (installed on hard drive #1). Grub2 just doesn't seem to be recognizing that there is a Windows Vista installation on the first hard drive.
I followed this guide (with Fabien's changes) because it seemed like they were having the exact same problem. But after rebooting, Vista is still not showing in the GRUB menu. In fact, the GRUB menu doesn't even show up unless I press Shift because it thinks that Ubuntu is the only OS installed on my computer.

When I was installing Ubuntu to HD2 (the 500gb one), I got a peculiar message saying that Windows was installed on it. There wasn't anything on HD2 though, because Windows Vista was most definitely installed on HD1.
However, if I chose to overwrite HD1 with Ubuntu, the message wouldn't come up. It seemed like the installer was confused as to which hard drive actually held my Windows Vista install.
Trying this on a Lenovo with 10.04. but after a few updates and some basic software (restricted extras) the network manager is missing. I tried installing WICD but that doesn't show up either. Going to the startup applications, it is listed and checked, and dragging it to the panel works, but clicking it does nothing.

The phone does mount in nautilus and I can also mount it with ifuse to use it witz gtkpod. However it does not show up (it only blinks and disappears) in the list at the left in rhythmbox though I have MTP and iPod Plugins enabled.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter moving to Lucid Lynx, I've noticed, that when I view Folder Preferences, Nautilus no longer displays the free space available, but instead displays "Free space: Unknown".
In some cases it still appears to show the free space, for example when viewing properties of Home folder, or viewing the properties of a detachable HDD in media-folder (but not when trying to view the properties of any of the folders _on_ that HDD).
When I download a game from the Ubuntu Software manager, it doesn't show up in the applications. Is there another place where the files are located? And how can I execute them? I am trying to run Mednafen

View 4 Replies View Relatedi just installed Ubuntu from an ISO about a year old and of course i updated it to the latest version and when i get that screen at startup where i have a choice of which version to load i get something like this: My current version, memtest, an old installation of Ubuntu and some really old versions. The problem is i also have Windows7 and Vista installed(vista really needs to go) but i don't have either of them as a choice in the bootloader. How do i get it back? Also before the update i had it on the list.
