I am a beginner and just start with Zoneminder. I take Sony SNC RZ25P as webcamera. I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Zoneminder v1.24.2. In its console, I configure HTTP mode and Remote host name 149.XXX.XXX.XXX but there is no picture shown and when I use probe in console,it reads "unable to probe network cameras status is 127".

My zoneminder box will not connect to it. The main error I get is, [Restarting capture daemon for ipcam, shared memory not valid], I am wasting time with shared memory settings. I just booted a live cd of 9.10 with Zoneminder 1.22.3 that I remastered from another system and the IP camera works fine. (It ran all night in the live environment.) From that test I have concluded I have a permission problem in my 8.04 install that is not letting www-data (the ZM process) access what it needs to grab the stream. From the same box I can stream the camera to firefox while using vnc to connect to it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have eight surveillance cameras setup that used to connect to a windows pc. I decided to throw away the old computer, take the dvr card from the old computer and use it in a new computer with ubuntu 9.10. However, till now I can't get the cameras to work.
I installed Zoneminder, and followed instructions from here and there with no useful results. What I currently have are monitors showing black screens, with the fps showing.
I am pretty much still a noob, so I am not sure where I went wrong. I do not get anything when i run XawTV (or maybe i don't know how to run it right).

What is confusing is I get a fps rate, which is a sign that the camera is working, but all i get is a black screen. The cameras used to work in the original windows setup, so i doubt that the cameras are not working.
Anyway since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 when I right-click on something and there is another menu in that menu, it doesn't show up for the first time!
for example if I want to create a an "Empty File", I'll right-click on desktop and when I want to go to "Create Document" menu, it doesn't show up! so I must click somewhere else and try again so for the second time it works!!
I normally use a very lightweight Linux setup. No desktop like Gnome or KDE, just Icewm as the windows manager and nothing else that normal users might consider essential. Well, I do need a file manager - I use Thunar.
Recently I've been trying Gnome. Whenever I shove a memory stick into a USB port, or connect my digital camera, it can automatically pop up a file manager showing all the goodies on that device. KDE does this too. I like this. Although quick at the command line, I like not having to go sudo to mount the device and all that.
If I want to stick with a lightweight setup using Icewm+Thunar, is there something non-huge I can install to make external devices fire up a Thunar window, or otherwise make access to the contents brainlessly easy?
I'm getting an error 60 every time I try plugging in my camera.. If you need more details i'll post up some screenshots I took.

I was looking to iphone and i was surprised the quality of such tiny camera.
Is there any alternative camera for my laptop to have similar or much better then the one in iphone? So that i can use it from my laptop, but have very sharp HD quality with maximum megapixel + highest frame per second.

I'm experiencing overheating problems, after just 15-20 minutes of minimal use (surfing the internet, not even watching flash vids or any other vids). The same laptop under Windows 7 64 bit stayed really cool.
I've read several posts here and followed this manual: [URL] to try to control the fans (I only installed the lm-sensors and ran the sensors command, I didn't do anything beyond that). Specifically what I did was install lm-sensors (via apt-get), ran sensors-detect which advised me to add the coretemp module to /etc/modules, which I did.
However when running sensors the only information I get is the overall temperature and the temperature of each of the cores.
why I'm not getting fan speed info when running sensors? Also is there a way to find out if more modules needs to be added to /etc/modules?

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhy the bootloader won't show up when I turn on the PC. The only things that come up with search results are 'Why ubuntu isn't on the boatloader' but my problem is is that the boot loader doesn't even SHOW UP.
Installation went completely fine, downloaded a version 10 32-bit iso file and then put in the folder with wibu and it asked me to restart. Restarted the PC, nothing came up so I thought you might have to restart again, restarted again, still no bootloader.
After looking in the 'Add/Remove Programs' of Windows it does say it's installed, so why the bootloader isn't showing up is rather mindbobbling.
I have a new netbook - "Eee PC 1005PE-PU27-BK" and installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04, Kernel Linux 2.6.32-24-generic. I love Ubuntu, but I also want to be able to access Windows 7 if I can. I'm facing a boring problem and I cant understand why it is happening. Im running Evolution 2.28.3 on Ubuntu 10.04, and all the messages are not showing their images. I already did the following confs:
1) Change proxy to connect "Directly to the internet"
2)In Preferences, "Load images from contacts".
3)I tried the option "Load Images" ou CTRL+I.
I have an ASUS M4A785-m and it has the Realtek 8112L gigabit nic. The weird thing is, the 10.10 rc saw the nic card just fine, and windows sees the card so it's not disabled in the bios.
Ubuntu says i have no network connections and i need to get internet. Any suggestions?
I should also note that i'm running from the livecd and lspci shows that it detects my NIC. but my NIC isn't "detected" in that it can be used.
I've just upgraded to Maverick and as the Me menu works with Empathy I started to use it as my default IM client.
But no matter what I do, it won't show my picture.
I tried resizing the picture to 96x96, I tried to convert it from jpg to png. I tried uninstalling the program with apt-get remove --purge. I tried also removing the ~/config/Empathy directory and all others related to the program and then reinstalling it but nothing seems to work.

Nautlius doesn't show all the files that are in a folder From the screenshots below you can see that there are more files in the folder (ls from the terminal shows them all), however nautilus doesn't. Other .mkv files show up in other folders so its not that
I've tired turning off previews and that didn't work. Running nautilus as root didn't work either
I installed it from a cd and it wouldn't work. (froze in the process). I then tried to install it through windows wubi and that didn't work (wouldnt boot) since I was unaware it was a known issue and thought it was me doing something wrong I uninstalled it,reformatted the hard drive and tried to install via a cd again this time it fully iinstalled but when I rebooted it tells me unable to mount drives and a shell will be shown.
in the end I have no files on ubuntu so I would like to clean up all reminance of the previous installs and be able to use a working install. since I have been installing and reistalling for the better part of 8 hours.Yexcuse the post sloppiness using my phone)

After searching very long for the problem in Linux and GRUB2 I decided to boot into XP, witch gave me the option for Windows 7 or older versions of Windows -> so I eventually can boot to it! So here is the real question: How can I make an entry for Windows 7 and for Windows XP? This is because I'd like to use a theme for GRUB and it would be to stupid to make GRUB look nice if I then come to a stupid screen of the Windows loader!

It shows about 3.4 to 3.6GB of RAM (please see attached picture).I thought that if I could install a 64-bit OS that would mean that I have a 64-bit capable processor. I thought using a 64-bit release would show all 4GB or RAM on my PC. What am I doing wrong? My CPU is a Pentium 4 Prescott DT 630.

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 onto my second hard drive, and now I can't boot into Vista (installed on hard drive #1). Grub2 just doesn't seem to be recognizing that there is a Windows Vista installation on the first hard drive.
I followed this guide (with Fabien's changes) because it seemed like they were having the exact same problem. But after rebooting, Vista is still not showing in the GRUB menu. In fact, the GRUB menu doesn't even show up unless I press Shift because it thinks that Ubuntu is the only OS installed on my computer.

When I was installing Ubuntu to HD2 (the 500gb one), I got a peculiar message saying that Windows was installed on it. There wasn't anything on HD2 though, because Windows Vista was most definitely installed on HD1.
However, if I chose to overwrite HD1 with Ubuntu, the message wouldn't come up. It seemed like the installer was confused as to which hard drive actually held my Windows Vista install.
Trying this on a Lenovo with 10.04. but after a few updates and some basic software (restricted extras) the network manager is missing. I tried installing WICD but that doesn't show up either. Going to the startup applications, it is listed and checked, and dragging it to the panel works, but clicking it does nothing.

The phone does mount in nautilus and I can also mount it with ifuse to use it witz gtkpod. However it does not show up (it only blinks and disappears) in the list at the left in rhythmbox though I have MTP and iPod Plugins enabled.
I thought I'd ask after having waited several weeks and none of the gvfsd updates changed anything
