Ubuntu :: Getting Mobloquer And Yahoo To Play Well Together?

So, I am relatively new to Ubuntu (a few weeks in). I am running Lucid dual booted with Windows Vista at this point. I have installed the Mobloquer GUI for better privacy. That seems to be going pretty well, except that it is making it difficult for me to connect to the yahoo chat server. I am running Pidgin. The other servers I use (AIM, Google) use one IP address each for their chat connections and I have whitelisted those addresses. However, it seems that Yahoo uses a different IP address every time. Whitelisting whatever IP it tried last doesn't work. I tried to put in a range - with that, Mobloquer would not start up at all - something about an invalid IP mask.
I realize that this is the Ubuntu forum, not specific to Moblock (or Mobloquer) but when I google problems with Mobloquer the results are almost all here. So, I hope that those with knowledge will chime in anyhow.

So, now that I got http://bit.ly/h70Nnf sorted out, how come doesn't my Mobloquer show anything in the log. I'm used to Peer Guardian 2 in Windows and I know it has to show some more stuff than nothing.. Your help is sincerely appreciated cuz I'm so new to Ubuntu. FYI: Mobloquer and Peer Guardian 2 are IP blocking programs.

I have problems with Mobloquer and Thunderbird or Evolution email. (Email is Gmail.)When i log in Ubuntu and open mail, mobloquer block "Google Inc". Okey then i click "Stop blocking this IP"..everything is working BUT when i reboot, same thing and just DIFFERENT "Google Inc" IP to block.What i miss?runehedit:got it solved with this: gksu gedit/etc/blockcontrol/blockcontrol.confIP_REMOVE="Google Inc"

Mobloquer starts up at boot and before I've even opened firefox or transmission or anything, mobloquer shows that is has started blocking several outgoing connections as well as ton of incoming connections. I was wondering if the outgoing connections is normal and what's a normal amount of network activity to show up in system monitor when I'm not actively using the internet.

i am running a ad hoc wifi service from my laptop to share my internet connection with my other laptop
i am also running mobloqer on the first laptop.
but when i try to access internet in my other laptop, i cant do it unless i disable mobloquer in the first laptop,
but with mobloquer switched on(in the first laptop), i can use utorrent on the second laptop but cant browse any websites (using firefox or chrome !)
first laptop is running ubuntu 10.10 second laptop is running win xp sp2
i want to allow internet access in the second laptop while mobloquer is running on the first laptop, is it possible to do so ?

I get this error with a Java applet : "poppinlockin" - Invalid username/password combination. If you continue to get this error, try entering your email address as your username.
I have tried dozens of times to change the password/username and still the same! I try to log in manually and it won't log in. If i am on a different machine it is no problem so there much be somewhere the info is stored and i can delete it and redo it?

After many days of trying to tweak Ubuntu 9.10 desktop i386. This subject will focus on my dvd drive. ...Here is what I have done, but I'm not sure what I did or still need to do, or to do different. ...
Basically the problem is, I can't play store bought DVDs, but I can play my copies of them.
When using MDPlayer that I added to Ubuntu, I can play the copies of my store bought DVDs, but not the originals. However, when using Ubuntu 9.10's movie player, it wont do anything and I'll have to do a force quit to close it.
I learned that this may because there is a repository of packages that cannot be included into the Ubuntu distribution, as I'm sure you already knew.
...Yet, Most people have worked around these issues.

Running the Terminal, I added the bash command that adds Medibuntu's repositiry to Ubuntu. It also adds Medibuntu's GPG key to the keyring.
(The sudo wget - etc etc etc --quiet update)
Then I jumped down to the... "This command should be run in the Terminal, after adding the repository:" ...And did that. (sudo sed -e 's/ etc etc etc /medibuntu.list)

i just installed 10.10 on my girls laptop (Acer Aspire 5735z) hoping it would fix the old problem i had with playing real dvd's. it didnt. it keeps saying "Could not read from Resource". when i try with VLC is say "Could not read from file". but if i put in a burned movie, it plays fine. i checked and it has libdvdcss2, libdvdnav4, and libdvdread4 installed. i get the same problems with my laptop (toshiba portege m400 tablet) which runs fedora 13.

Anyone else struggling to play iplayer video? I've got the proprietary Flash plugin, which means it's probably not this "SWF Authentication" thing that there's been so much talk about.
I've rebooted, tried all sorts of tinkering, it loads the applet (I can see that Flash is loading OK because other things work, and right clicking on the applet gives the Flash menu)
However, clicking the play button does nothing.

i recently lost access to yahoo IM on 2 different computers (one 32-bit and one 64-bit) on both empathy and pidgin. it happened at around the same time on 2 separate machines on 2 separate networks. both gmail and msn will connect using both clients - it's only yahoo that will not connect and i've tried 2 different yahoo accounts, too...
i can still log into yahoo IM on a windows virtual machine and through the web messenger - just not using the ubuntu clients.
could there have been a recent update that may have caused this? i've also heard that yahoo in the past has changed around servers and put in measures to limit usages strictly to yahoo clients.

I love Yahoo Smush.it.I am a webdev, and optimizing images quickly will a single command for any image type would be super duper.URL...I prefer this over other tools like `pngcrush` and `jpegoptim` and `optipng`.I use CLI on servers which don't have these packages, so I'd like CLI command (using a bash alias to a PHP script, perhaps) like:$ smush someimage.png..So, has anyone written some kind of shell script which posts a image file and gets back the result for the Yahoo Smush.it service?

I'm trying to find a way to use Yahoo messenger on Ubuntu 9.04. I don't mind using Pidgin for my hotmail account but I usually use both messengers at the same time so I need a way to use both. I'm wanting to know if anyone can help me with this issue. I tried to go to the website and download it from there but it was a failed download. I looked on Google and bing and found nothing useful.I went here:

I've looked all over the net (believe me, EVERYWHERE), and I can't find anything. I sort of need a program that supports webcam so I can communicate with my family when I leave town in a few weeks. I've tried aMSN, emsense, Pidgin (webcam hasn't worked in that program for ages, heh), empathy (just audio works), skype, ekiga, and so on.

I'm currently using Empathy as per 10.04's standard, but I need a new Yahoo client.
I've used Gyachi in the past, and it was great and all, but it's gone now. It's been missing from it's repository for a long time. (If that doesn't make any sense, what I'm trying to say is that it won't download from it's source, in the way that you usually install it.)
I've also heard about Yux, but out of curiosity, is there anything better? Empathy is missing some basic features, like webcam (understandable) to "message all in group"

As of today I am unable to connect to Yahoo messenger in either Empathy or Pidgin. Empathy gives its generic "network error" and Pidgin says the account is disabled, and fails to connect when I click "re-enable." I've checked the obvious things such as username and password. I was able to connect through the web messenger so my credentials are good. Also tried swapping the server with the IP address and changing the character encoding as recommended here.

only getting with Yahoo mail, gmail is fine, also I get the same problem with chrome and with firefoxI can log in to yahoo both classic and "all new mail", but sometimes emails just doesn't load up at all (I get a blue loading bar but nothing happens), sometimes the mail will load, but I can't get attachments or send email at all. When I try to get an attachment it scans for viruses and just hangs, if I try to compose a message I also get a timer but that hangs too.

I have 5 computers, 3 of them have windows XP Pro, 1 has Ubuntu 10.04, and the other has Windows 7 Ult.On all the machines except the windows 7 machine whenever I attempt to go to yahoo.com it says "waiting for l.yimg.com" and after awhile will load without any CSS at all. When the same machines (all except for the Windows 7 one) attempt to go to Hulu.com it can connect to the website just fine, but whenever it attempt to play a video, the ad will not play, and hulu is designed to not play the video if the ad does not play. I do not have any ad blocking addons installed at all. This occurs on both chrome and firefox. And lastly the oddest problem out of them all I think is that on the same machines I can play ..... videos fine, but if i log into an account, it will not play the video.... it just shows a "spinning wheel of death."
I can also ping www.yimg.com with no package loss.On all of the machines I have reinstalled the browser and updated to the newest flash player. On one of the windows XP machines I even tried a system restore too 2 months ago, but that did not work.This all started 2 days ago, all at the same time. I would say that it is my ISP's fault or my routers, but that wouldn't make sense since my Windows 7 machine can connect fine to all the websites.

I recently installed Ubuntu. I am trying to play yahoo pool in a java environment. It loads and I can play, but it wont let me type in the chat area. Ive tried firefox and chrome. I havent tried other yahoo games besides Pool but I'm sure its the same story.
