I've got an EeePC, running Jaunty, and I can use the Network-Manager to connect through my ibVPN account just fine. I want to also use this ibVPN account on my desktop running Hardy. I've tried to manually transpose all the configuration info, but it keeps coming up with errors (a number of errors, including sometimes "bad username/password"). So I thought: "Hey, why am I even bothering with all this manually transposition of credentials? I can just Export the account config info from the (working) Jaunty machine and then import them straight into the Hardy machine." Should be pretty simple, huh? Woulda, coulda, shoulda. I go to the VPN tag in the Network-Manager on Jaunty, select "ibVPN" (the working VPN account) and click Export. I tell it to save the info to a file called ibVPN (pptp).conf... and I get an error saying:
Code:
Cannot export VPN connection The VPN connection 'ibVPN' could not be exported to ibVPN (pptp).conf Error: unknown error You see that "Error: unknown error" crap? Means I don't even know what needs changing. Damn fool network-manager. I've tried jiggling stuff round, but nothing seems to make a difference.
I'm new to Ubuntu and I'm remote from the server. I'm setting up an Ubuntu server 10.04 x64. My intention is to load Oracle 11g, however I know I will need to be able to export an X display back to my desktop (Solaris) to run the Oracle installer. What do I need to load to get X working enough to export the display back to myself. I need to provide additional information. Since I'm new I may not have adequately covered what's needed.
Today my computer froze a couple times while running VBox forcing me to hit the reset button on the computer, anyways, now I am getting this error: Code: An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for evolution-alarm-notify. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly.
Code: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See [URL] for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-0bZHOOZLeL: Connection refused) to be perfectly blunt with you, i dont know what ORBit is or what it is for and the file /tmp/dbus-0bZHOOZLeL doesn't exist on my computer (not even a symlink) the only network sharing apps that are running on the machine are SAMBA and IPP, according to synaptic I don't even have NFS installed on the computer.
As for evolution-alarm-notify, I don't use use evolution (unless I get a pgp encrypted email) which is highly unlikely that I will get one, I am thinking, if I remove the evolution link from my notification bar will that fix the problem?
The following packages will be upgraded: libldap-2.4-2 time 2 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Need to get 243kB of archives. After unpacking 53.2kB will be freed. Do you want to continue? [Y/n/?]
I cant use the option "export" from the VPN settings in the Gnome Network Manager, when I tried to export a popup says "Unknown error"This happend also in 11.3 and now in 11.4, so it is a nm-applet problema I think... Is there any other way to export my VPN connections?
After an automatic update from Debian I get the following error while starting a root terminal: An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for gnome-terminal. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly. Failed to contact configuration server: the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-bus session bus daemon.
I was wondering if there's any resource that explains how to use w3m. I checked the man page but this just lists the startup options. I also did some google searches but couldn't find anything useful. I was able to find bits and pieces of info on different sites (e.g. how to enter a URL, how to go back a page, etc.) but there was no site that had all this sort of information in one place.
Banshee can't find any information about track or artist with a CD in the drive. She can play it and rip without error just no info... I have had a good look about the menu's and can not find any way of changing the site where it gets the info from.
so i cannot install anything because update-info-dir file is missing from /var/lib/dpkg/info/ .. I've searched for the last day and a half for a way to fix this, but nothing. can't even update dpkg because of this. so how do I bypass or fix this so I can install stuff (this is a fresh install of ubuntu 10.04 lts Lucid Lynx).
I plugged in my USb drive into my computer yesterday and tried to delete a folder. I was unable to do so and got the following message
Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately? The file "my file" cannot be moved to the trash. Show Details Unable to create trashing info file: Read-only file system
So when I click on delete I get another error message:
Error while deleting. There was an error deleting Case Study Database. Show Details Error removing file: Read-only file system
At this point I can only click on Skip, Skip All, or Cancel.
I have not changed anything on the stick recently so I dont know what is causing the problem.
I am having a situation where I couldn't connect to Internet through wireless and LAN cable. I have done ifconfig, it only shows me "lo" info. May I know how can I bring up the LAN and wireless?
I'm using ubuntu 10.04 beta 1. when I try to update & upgrade I get the following error:
Code: Setting up install-info (4.13a.dfsg.1-5ubuntu1) .../etc/environment: line 4: LC-ALL=en_US.UTF-8: command not found dpkg: error processing install-info (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 127 Errors were encountered while processing: install-info
I did a fresh install (the installer erased 10.04 and installed 11.04) of Natty. Now as soon as I boot into Ubuntu I get the error "There is a problem with the configuration server....exited with status 256" This comes up before the log in screen, and once I type in my password, after as well. Also, I'm getting the error The configuration defaults for GNOME Power Manager have not been installed correctly.contact your computer administrator.
I cannot log in. I just get sent back to the log in screen.I have searched and searched for a solution to both of these errors, and it seems that no one can find a solution to the configuration server error.
I have ubuntu server 10.4 installed on an Intel SS4200-E, which I have configured without any RAID. This machine acts as a media server to another PC. The other PC runs Windows 7 Ultimate. I have 3 1TB hard disks connected to it, and the file system on all the 3 are NTFS. I have mounted the hard disks as ntfs. I have made the folders on all the 3 hard disks shareable. I have configured Samba to make the folders on the hard disks "visible".
The ubuntu machine is in a headless configuration (it doesn't have any VGA card where can connect a monitor). I can configured SSH on it, so I can use putty from the Windows machine to logon to the ubuntu machine, but it is text based only. I am able to see all the 3 disks from the Windows machine. I am able to read/write into 2 of the disks. I am able to read, copy and delete from the 3rd disk, but not write new content to it.
I need to convert an ODT file to a PDF file in OpenOffice. I cannot use the "export as PDF" option because this is to submit homework, and the teacher will not except it that way. He says it looks crappy. So where can I get a good add-on that does this?
I just installed debian and I love it so far. I'm trying to mount an ssd that I took from my previous window installation but it gives me this error:
Error mounting /dev/sdb1 at /media/meknoy/Fotoschijf: Command-line `mount -t "ntfs" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,dmask=0077,fmask=0177" "/dev/sdb1" "/media/meknoy/Fotoschijf"' exited with non-zero exit status 14: The disk contains an unclean file system (0, 0). Metadata kept in Windows cache, refused to mount. Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': Bewerking niet toegestaan The NTFS partition is in an unsafe state. Please resume and shutdown Windows fully (no hibernation or fast restarting), or mount the volume read-only with the 'ro' mount option.
How can I sort this out? The data on the disk is important and I can not lose it.
Then my SD card with photos on it has about the same problem.
It gives me this message:
Error mounting /dev/sde1 at /media/meknoy/NIKON D7100: Command-line `mount -t "exfat" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,iocharset=utf8,namecase=0,errors=remount-ro,umask=0077" "/dev/sde1" "/media/meknoy/NIKON D7100"' exited with non-zero exit status 32: mount: unknown filesystem type 'exfat'
I have and RHEL5.4 conecceted to an SAN HSV200. When I present a LUN to it, In system-confg-lvm gui appears a device like /dev/mapth/mapth0 (thats the correct device to multipath) and other like /dev/sda or /dev/dm-N, as uninitialized entities. How could I configure to not display this device (/dev/sda) and prevent human errors?
This is the things I need:
1- I want (if it is posible...) to disappear the part where it says "uninitialized entities"
2- Is It necesary mantain the partitioning done to default (like /dev/mapper/mpath0p1) with device-mapper-multipath (kpartx command)? or Can I delete it without future problems?
I have accidentally started the recovery OS of my netbook, and messed-up grub. I can start the Netbook from a live CD, but I do not manage to restore grub to anything useful. Below the outcome of the Boot Info Script I have found in the forum:
Code:
Boot Info Script 0.55 dated February 15th, 2010 ============================= Boot Info Summary: ============================== => Grub 0.97 is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda and looks on the same drive in partition #5 for /boot/grub/stage2 and /boot/grub/menu.lst. => Syslinux is installed in the MBR of /dev/sdb
I am running ubuntu 8.10 on an old gateway as a server. I have vent up and running just fine. I went to configure the ventrilo_srv.ini file and now that I have made the changes, I need to restart the server program, which I am having problems doing. The following command returns the following:
sudo /home/taylor/ventrilo/ventsrv/ventrilo_srv restart Ventrilo Server - Public - Version 3.0.3 (c)Copyright 1999-2008 Flagship Industries, Inc. Unable to open configuration file 'ventrilo_srv.ini'. ERROR: Unable to read configuration data. Exiting.
What am I doing wrong? Did I change something that shouldn't have been changed. I only set the name to something other than default and set the admin password.
I have an installation of ubuntu (not a virtual disk) that I'd like to turn into a virtual box drive so that I can import it into virtual box on another system. Is there an easy way to do this?
My question is I trying to install php5 and add mcrypt,, but it is unable to run "aclocal" command. It show this message.
I have check with the path of /etc/profile, I'm sure that I have added the path as below. Beside that, before "aclocal" command I able to run another command which is "phpize". It is able to run successfully, after I added the path as below...
I use Debian Jessie 8.2 and I am using a 3G connection using this modem => [URL] ....
The 3G connection works fine, except after 24 hours the connection drops and I cannot reconnect. If I reboot the computer, the connection will work again.
My guess is that my ISP gives me a new IP address after 24 hours and somehow my system cannot handle it.
How can I reconnect my 3G connection without rebooting?
I have already tried the following commands:
Code: Select allsudo service network-manager restart
Code: Select alldhclient -r eth0 dhclient eth0
Code: Select allsystemctl restart ModemManager
Results of journalctl and grepping my connection name (SFR)
Code: Select allsept. 22 17:58:19 ark1 NetworkManager[512]: <info> Policy set 'SFR Web / Prepaid 1' (eth0) as default for IPv4 routing and DNS. sept. 23 18:17:07 ark1 NetworkManager[9446]: <info> new connection /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/SFR Web * Prepaid 1 sept. 23 18:17:08 ark1 NetworkManager[9446]: <info> Auto-activating connection 'SFR Web / Prepaid 1'.
[Code] ....
As you can see sept 22 at time 17:58 is when the computer started up. And roughly 24 hours after it failed to reconnect.
Also I should mention that there is a script to run the command:
Code: Select allsudo service network-manager restart
if the computer cannot ping a server, ie if the connection is lost.
More journalctl info when the system tries to reconnect:
