After an automatic update from Debian I get the following error while starting a root terminal:
An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for gnome-terminal. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly.
Failed to contact configuration server: the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-bus session bus daemon.
I receive these messages after I enter my user_id and password in Ubuntu 9.04;

Fedora 15 software update "unspecified transaction error occurred" at system info before installing updated list. After unchecking every (no arch) update, all the rest (i686) were installed. now all (no arch)updates remain on the list to be installed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm recompiling my kernel on a dell latitude c600 running lenny as I type, and it's taking forever, so far upward of 4 hours.I think I'm getting drivers for ever piece of computing hardware since the univac So I googled "a kernel conf creator" and got [URL]... Its a nice, clean method for finding what hardware your using... you just run lspci cpuinfo make xconfig and put in all the info yourself. So I was thinking: this is exactly the kind of dull, repetitive behavior that computers were made for. Is there a program that can find my hardware info, and make the.config itself, with very little user input?Or should I reinstall debian on another partition and steal the .config from it? Or should I man it up and do it myself?

I installed debian 6 (stable) on laptop with dual boot Windows 7 and Debian. when i was installing debian ,every things were ok and installed correctly (such as DHCP configuration) before installing APT package configuration part. error is about mirror zone! i checked it and tested with all mirorrs in list but i couldnt config APT yet.i did installation without APT.after booting debian i have apt-get and aptitude commands but didnt work commands like apt-get update or aptitude install ... or aptitude update .... when i ping an ip , it dosent answer cause of errors .(but i have network connection on windows7 correctly. im using connection wired.

I very rarely use xfce and I don't quite know what exo is, but I'd like to fix this problem if it's not too involved.
After running a large update and rebooting a few weeks ago, I found that my internet connection had stopped working. My internal network still worked fine though, so it I know it's not the card itself or its configuration. After a bit of trial and error I discovered that simply running dhclient brings the connection up again, so it appears that something is interfering with the initial dhcp update to my ISP (or something like that; I'm no expert in this area. ) My usual policy in cases like this is to wait through two or three updates in the hopes that it's just a temporary problem, but it's been a while now and subsequent updates haven't fixed it.
I've tried looking around, but I can't come up with search criteria specific enough to narrow it down to my specific situation. I'm not even sure where to begin looking to diagnose the problem, nor do I know which package update(s) could've affected it. I'm not sure what might be useful, but here's the relevant entry in /etc/network/interfaces. I have it configured with a static internal address, with my router as the gateway.

I switched from Ubuntu to Fedora and I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding why I cannot update my system. Fedora seems to be a little bit more complicated than Ubuntu to update and to do other things... I'm still willing to try it because it has a good reputation and good reviews so I will go ahead and give it a shot but before I do that I need to update it. I have an HP pavilion notebook dv2000. I've got Opera for Linux on my Debian Lenny system, installed by adding their repository to my APT config, and it works great. Just recently there was an update. When I downloaded it, it could not install because the signature could not be verified.

Why would that happen now when I already had the repository correctly setup in my apt files? I tried re-installing the key and that didn't change anything. Is there a problem with a public key server somewhere?
Today I tried to attach my digital turntable to the line-in of the computer and hoped for some sound to come. Unfortunately it didn't work. I switched the line-in feature on and put the volume on max. Still no results. I checked the same on Windows and this DOES work, so it can't be the hardware. Do I have to install some extra app in order to use the line-in in put? To complete the information: I'm using Squeeze 64-bits with Gnome. The turntable (Akai ATT05U) HAS worked before (that was when I used Ubuntu 32-bits on an Intel Celeron ). Another thing: since I tried to edit the sound settings, I get an error message at boot: "Could not update ICEautority file /var/lib/gdm3/.ICEauthority". Does this have anything to do with the audio matter?

As for evolution-alarm-notify, I don't use use evolution (unless I get a pgp encrypted email) which is highly unlikely that I will get one, I am thinking, if I remove the evolution link from my notification bar will that fix the problem?
is it save to install linux kernel 2.6.35.2 on Debian Lenny 5.0.5 or stick with automatic updates...
