Ubuntu :: Cannot Use Export As PDF
Jan 24, 2010
I need to convert an ODT file to a PDF file in OpenOffice. I cannot use the "export as PDF" option because this is to submit homework, and the teacher will not except it that way. He says it looks crappy. So where can I get a good add-on that does this?

I can't seem to find how to export a variable to all processes I run under my user? I have an application that needs this variable, and currently I have to manually export this variable (typing "export VAR=... in terminal) every time before I run the application.
Which profile file I have to put the export expression into? I want all processes to inherit this variable, not just the shell/terminal. I.e. a true environment variable...

I've got an EeePC, running Jaunty, and I can use the Network-Manager to connect through my ibVPN account just fine. I want to also use this ibVPN account on my desktop running Hardy. I've tried to manually transpose all the configuration info, but it keeps coming up with errors (a number of errors, including sometimes "bad username/password"). So I thought: "Hey, why am I even bothering with all this manually transposition of credentials? I can just Export the account config info from the (working) Jaunty machine and then import them straight into the Hardy machine." Should be pretty simple, huh? Woulda, coulda, shoulda. I go to the VPN tag in the Network-Manager on Jaunty, select "ibVPN" (the working VPN account) and click Export. I tell it to save the info to a file called ibVPN (pptp).conf... and I get an error saying:
Code:
Cannot export VPN connection The VPN connection 'ibVPN' could not be exported to ibVPN (pptp).conf Error: unknown error You see that "Error: unknown error" crap? Means I don't even know what needs changing. Damn fool network-manager. I've tried jiggling stuff round, but nothing seems to make a difference.

The application works rather well for most part, it generates the dh, ta, certs and config for the server and i can activate the VPN connection just as planed and clients can connect to the port so that works as well. The problem comes when i try to use the "Export" button to generate a config for the client and a key (cert) for the user.If i'm not mistaken that's what the export button is ment to be used for.

I've recently installed Ubuntu on a new machine and I'd like to export the annotations for my pdf files from the old computer to my new one. I'm aware that Okular has an export option that allows me to save the annotations of a single pdf and share it with an other person using okular, but that's not what I'm looking for. I've lots of annotated pdf files, and I was wondering if there is one way to copy the folder containing the files with the annotation to the right place in my new computer. There should be no problems since on both the machines I've installed the same version of Ubuntu and I already copied the "Documents" folder from one computer to the other (so that the files would have the same path). What I really need to know is which folder (or folders) I need to copy.

try to get my Evolution emails into Outlook, I can now say that the whole process is quite simple. It seems clunky the way that I have done it, but it is free and it works!First download and this Free Converter to convert *.mbx into *.eml If the link is broken, it came from [URL] and you just have to find their link to the mbx to eml converter.
IN LINUX
1) Open Evolution
2) Highlight the emails that you wish to convert, CTR+A for all in folder
3) R-click and "save as" and call the file anything you want with an mbx extension (example: inbox.mbx) - note: you may need to save this somewhere that Win/linux both recognise as Windows refuses to recognise drives formatted by linux. ie. save on a drive that has been formatted in FAT32 or NTFS
IN WINDOWS
1) Open mbox-eml-extractor.exe (the free converter, probably in your downloads directory)
2) Click "Add" and select your *.mbx file that you saved
3) Click "process" and select the output directory (I just created one on the desktop)
4) Open Microsoft Outlook Express NOT OUTLOOK!! It comes free with your windows install
5) Open the directory that you saved the *eml files (the "process" ones) and drag n drop into MS outlook express
6) All of your emails should show up in MS Outlook express now
7) Click File->Export->Messages
8) You will not be given an option where to save it but if you are curious, go to Tools->Options and click the Maintenance tab and the "Store folder" button to see the path
9) After it has exported now open Microsoft Outlook and click File->Import and Export and select "Import Internet mail and addresses" and press next. Choose "outlook express" etc and follow the bouncing ball so to speak.
10) You have managed the frustratingly and seemingly impossible. Now if Evolution soon gets an export to pst (or whatever the extension is) we won't need this thread anymore

I,m having a rough time getting the terminal environment to recognize my android debug bridge path (which is set in a separate hdd) I used to paste this in my bashrc, but then found that it would make the env system bonkers whenever i attempted sudoing with an option:
# Android Debug Bridge (ADB) sdk path
alias sudo='sudo env PATH=$PATH'
export PATH=${PATH}:/media/Disk/Linux/Android/sdk/platform-tools/
The "alias" line was the one making me have a rough time with env.
Now that i got rid of it everything is well but adb's path isn't exported anymore.

I created variables in python and would like to be able to incorporate those into bash commands that will be mixed into the script. Example:
Code:
name=raw_input("Type your name and press ENTER: ")
import os
os.system( echo "name")
Of course this doesn't actually work, but i think you get an indication of what I am trying to do.

How do I, the rightful creater and owner of the Firefox master-password, convince Firefox to release my passwords to me? I'm aware that Firefox stores website-passwords in the personal information manager, and that I am able to view these after unlocking them with the master-password and export them with the profile info export function. However, I collect all my passwords and encrypt them with a very strong key for storage outside my PC.

i want to backup some of my personal settings. for work i used emblems in nautilus to flag files i already processed (manually). now, i do not find any possiblity to back up the emblem-assignments. from older threads i figured out, that these assignments were in an .xml file in the ~/.nautilus/metadata folder, which is empty since newer versions of nautilus.i also tried to get some useful information out of the
.local/share/gvfs-metadata/* files, but i did not succeed with this approach either (just used the "strings" command on them).edit: i'm aware, that i could write a script reading the metadata of the files via gvfs-info. the problem is, i cannot access the files from home, only at work via windows share.

I am working on a project but it consist of a large amount of numbers. I have tried using OpenOffice to produce this list of numbers but it keeps crashing when I reach a certain point. So I was looking for some help. I need to see if someone could either help me with using a script or program to export these numbers into a .txt file or if someone could just make the list for me.
I am looking for a text file that will have the numbers 1000000000 to 9999999999 in order. I understand this is a large amount of numbers but this something I don't have the time to just do manually and each time I try to do it with OpenOffice it crashes around 1009000001. Oh and I need the text file to look like this:
1000000000
1000000001
1000000002
1000000003

I am trying to run matlab on a remote mac through my laptop at home, which is a linux-based. I am not able to export the display. Here are the steps I followed.
1. xhost +remotehost
2. Log into remotehost (i.e., the mac machine)
3. export DISPLAY="192.168.2.2:0.0"
4. matlab
But I get the following message,
"unable to open display 192.168.2.2:0.0"
The reason I typed in that ip address in step 3 was that is the ip listed in the "wlan0" block when I typed "ifconfig -a" on my local linux laptop.
