Ubuntu :: Loading Configuration Info For Evolution Alarm Notify Error

Mar 16, 2010

Today my computer froze a couple times while running VBox forcing me to hit the reset button on the computer, anyways, now I am getting this error:
Code:
An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for evolution-alarm-notify. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly.

Code:
Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See [URL] for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-0bZHOOZLeL: Connection refused) to be perfectly blunt with you, i dont know what ORBit is or what it is for and the file /tmp/dbus-0bZHOOZLeL doesn't exist on my computer (not even a symlink) the only network sharing apps that are running on the machine are SAMBA and IPP, according to synaptic I don't even have NFS installed on the computer.

As for evolution-alarm-notify, I don't use use evolution (unless I get a pgp encrypted email) which is highly unlikely that I will get one, I am thinking, if I remove the evolution link from my notification bar will that fix the problem?

I have had some problems with Evolution. It sometimes freezes on start-up: I have to force it to quit. If I open "System Monitor", and end the evolution-alarm-notify task, then I can restart evolution successfully. I therefore suspect it is that which is causing trouble. What is it and how do I stop it?

Ubuntu :: Alarm In Evolution Or Online - Reminder System?

Oct 2, 2010

I need an alarm / reminder system for all the crap I have going on. I want one that will pop up and remind me of a given task. Sounds, bleeps, rings, bells, etc., would also be great. Doesn't evolution have such a thing? IF not, what about online options. But I really prefer sg on this computers so I can still get the reminders when I am offline.

Ubuntu :: How To Import Outlook 2007 Email And Address Info Into Evolution

Apr 13, 2010

Does anybody really know how to import Outlook 2007 email and address info into evolution? I will never get back the hours of my life I spent. I have read nooks and crannies in the forums, run script files, incorporated, Outlook express, Outlook 2003 and 2007, Thunderbird and at one point yelled at my monitor. I have exported and imported .csv files, tabbed delimited files, comma separated value files, and then in the end a post from a non-Ubuntu page told me I could just import the outlook.pst file. Some of the above methods work to some degree. Others just trash my contacts. I have only 350 records to import. None of the above methods will import the address field for Home, Office or Other. They are always blank. Might that be because I ran the Ubuntu One setup files before I imported my contacts?

Debian :: Lenny - Stage 1.5 Grub Loading ... Error 2 Due To The Bios "RAID" Configuration

Aug 4, 2010

I'm trying to install Debian Lenny on my new Dell XPS 8100 Desktop with 2 x 1To SATA HD. (No Windows or any other OS install is present on the system) The Bios allows me to change the SATA mode to either "ATA" or "RAID"

- When SATA mode is set to RAID, the installation goes without issues, but when it comes to load into the system, I've got that Stage 1.5 Grub Loading... Error 2 problem. I assume this is due to the Bios "RAID" configuration. I then switched the SATA mode to "ATA" in the Bios and now I can see the menu that allows me to boot my debian install but that part actually fails too saying "ALERT /dev/sda1 does not exist"

- When SATA mode was set to ATA, I tried to re-install the system but this time my drive was not recognized by the installer: "No common CD ROM drive"

Fedora :: Error While Fetching Email. Evolution Version: Evolution 2.28.0

I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Ubuntu :: Unable To Export VPN Configuration Info

Apr 16, 2010

I've got an EeePC, running Jaunty, and I can use the Network-Manager to connect through my ibVPN account just fine. I want to also use this ibVPN account on my desktop running Hardy. I've tried to manually transpose all the configuration info, but it keeps coming up with errors (a number of errors, including sometimes "bad username/password"). So I thought: "Hey, why am I even bothering with all this manually transposition of credentials? I can just Export the account config info from the (working) Jaunty machine and then import them straight into the Hardy machine." Should be pretty simple, huh? Woulda, coulda, shoulda. I go to the VPN tag in the Network-Manager on Jaunty, select "ibVPN" (the working VPN account) and click Export. I tell it to save the info to a file called ibVPN (pptp).conf... and I get an error saying:

Code:

Cannot export VPN connection The VPN connection 'ibVPN' could not be exported to ibVPN (pptp).conf Error: unknown error You see that "Error: unknown error" crap? Means I don't even know what needs changing. Damn fool network-manager. I've tried jiggling stuff round, but nothing seems to make a difference.

Debian :: Grub Load Error "Grub Loading Stage1.5. Grub Loading, Please Wait... Error 15"

May 23, 2010

When I try and boot my Debian computer I get the messages: Grub Loading stage1.5. Grub loading, please wait... Error 15 Is there any way of recovering from this - or is it simply a fresh install? I was attempting an upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze and despite a few hurdles it looked like it was all happening. Got the new kernel loading, and the new grub. It looked as though grub2 was working so I ran the grub-remove-legacy-support command (something like that) and now my computer won't boot grub or Linux.

I'm assuming the MBR on my harddrive is lost, however I don't know what state the partition is in. I'm guessing that maybe this has been lost as well. I tried a few tools from the Ultimate Boot CD but nothing here was able to re-install my grub or boot from any partition or even mount my file-system. I'm fearing the worst but would like it confirmed before I blow it all away with a new install.

Ubuntu :: GRUB Loading Error - Laptop Dead - Stuck At Error Message

Feb 21, 2010

I been running both OS's for a few months now with no major problems besides wireless internet issues. Today, however, as I go to boot my laptop up, the Dell logo loads with the F2 and F12 boot and setup options which both work. Directly after that though I get the message "GRUB loading. Symbol '?' not found. Aborted. Press any key to Exit." then it repeats when I push a key, and then it tells me to press F1 to retry, F2 to go to setup, or F5 to run diagnostics. It passes all the tests in diagnostics. I've tried booting off of the ubuntu cd I used to load it initially with no luck. So I'm stuck at either that error message or in setup but I can't go any further, and it does not change anything when I tried to boot from the cd.

Ubuntu Servers :: Can't Login To 10.04 LTS With Error Sh: Error While Loading Shared Libraries

Dec 23, 2010

I recently setup a new server that serves files over samba and is a subversion repository for a number of projects. I did a simple apt-get update/upgrade for which the system requested a reboot. After I rebooted, I got to the login prompt, at which point I ran into a problem. After I enter my correct credentials, it spits out the following error:

sh: error while loading shared libraries libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: Error 24

and returns me to the login prompt. Samba and Subversion are both still working, I simply can't login to the server either physically or via SSH.

What steps should I be taking to correct this issue? My thoughts are that I may need to use a Live CD to load the system and perhaps do another update, but before I go through that process I just wanted to check in and see if there might be some other solution.

I have tried googling the issue, and while I have seen other posts regarding shared library issues, there was never anything about not being able to login and I never did find anything specific to the error message I received.

Ubuntu :: Mssql_connect ERROR With No Specific Info

Mar 30, 2011

I'm trying to read our companies mssql ordertracking db using php's mssql_connect. I was able to make this work when using WAMP, and I had done so by adding the same user on both machines and then applying that user name to the WAMP service. Because of viruses and poor performance... I moved the site over to ubuntu server and I have to say i am very pleased, other than I cannot make a connection to mssql now. I installed sybase5 and can see mssql is available via phpinfo. It's using freetds. I know all my connection info is correct. I can ping the machine that has mssql from the new webserver. When i try to view a test php connection page it returns nothing but a null response, and my error log just says ERROR with no specific info. I did however find out that /tmp/freetds.log returns a bunch of jibberish. ubuntu forum isn't letting me submit the whole log, so i put it on sendspace here [URL]...

I did jack around with odbc_connect but still couldn't get it to work... I feel like I am close with mssql_connect but there is some user authentication problem. why it won't return any info from the mssql db. Also I was wondering if something similar can be done with ubuntu where i applied a user to the WAMP service on my windows machine which then was able to connect to the mssql db.
