In Ubuntu 10.04, there is no "Show Desktop" option in Compiz. This option was in 9.10, and I want it back! How can I enable it again? I assume there is a way, because Compiz developers sometimes get a bit cooky and make certain options disappear or be impossible to disable (genie affect patent, animations cannot be disabled in 9.10). How can I reenable the Show Desktop option?
I saw my computer's desktop did not show the wallpaper correctly and I could actually see INTO my other virtual desktops....its as is compiz decided it did not want to work correctly: You can see into my other virtual desktops, as you can see I have an application open in the desktop to the left of the current one.
I can still maximize windows and it takes up the whole screen as it should, but animations and anything on the left side (dead space side) seem to get stuck...I have to rotate my cube and rotate back before everything works correctly. I know I did get a few new updates around the time this started happening, so hopefully someone out there has experienced something similar.
Well, as described in the title, I can't see the desktop icons, and the "show desktop" option under "gconf-editor >apps>nautilus>preferences" says it's not writable... I tried deleting the nautilus configuration folder, and the gnome configuration folder...
I used OpenSUSE today and in one of the options for Rotate Cube (in compiz) was something that let me adjust to what angle I could allow the cube to go up and down. If I set it to 360 degrees, I was able to rotate the cube in any which direction I pleased. Can I do this on Ubuntu?
I've done a new 10.04 installation and downloaded CCSM but I can't find the option to turn the rotating cube (all options present and correct) into a rotating sphere.Have I just forgotten to download some additional plugins or similar?
I just wanted to share something with you all. If this belongs somewhere else let me know.I got the idea from this thread.I wanted the show mouse effect to not rotate around my mouse (just a preference)and have the emitters directly under my cursor. So by editing two files it gave me the desired effect to an extent.
1. Just in case back up your compiz settings. 2. Open a terminal and type - sudo nautilus . It'll ask for your admin password. 3. The file manager should now be open, go to /usr/share/compiz/showmouse.xml copy the file and rename the copy to showmouse.xml.bak. 4. Open showmouse.xml with the text editor. 5. Scroll down to the bottom and look for the "radius" section. Go to the <min>10</min> entry and change it to 2. Save. 6. Go to /usr/lib/compiz/libshowmouse.so copy the file and rename the copy to libshowmouse.so.bak. 7. Open the file with Ghex and search for the string radius on the right side of the search box. 8. It'll look like a jumble of words, but look after the word radius and find <min>10</min> change to 2. Save. 9.Compiz should now disable itself. 10. Reboot and re-enable Compiz and try out the show mouse plugin, it should now allow you to use a smaller radius.
In 9.10 I had compiz turned on, and had enabled the widget layer so I could hide the top & bottom panels (pressing F9 displays the widget layer). However I don't see an option to turn on the widget layer in the Compiz settings in 10.01?
The first issue is that none of the screensavers that come with ubuntu that have GL in the name work on my system. They just show a black screen.Of the 13 that came when i first installed the only ones that work are cosmos, fibrelamp, floating feet, floating ubuntu and fuzzyflakes. All the others show nothing at all. Fair enough I thought,I can live with that so downloaded a few games and things. All worked til I tried my first 3d game(oolite). On starting this I am just faced with a black screen and nothing happens. I think that the 2 issues may be related and that its likely to be a open GL issue. I have installed latest AMD drivers and my card(4350) seems to work fine. Edit: Just tried to use visualisations while using Rhythmbox and these dont work either. They show up on screen but cause my system to freeze,so I am sure I have a graphics problem
I used unetbootin to create my bootable usb with 10.10 for netbook. I am trying to install ubuntu on my brand new fresh out of the box Asus Eee PC 1018P but the problem is when I hit esc during the boot to get to bios to select boot from usb, the usb doesn't show up as an option. I also tried hitting f2 and making it an option to boot from usb but that doesn't seem to work either.
In the Compiz Fusion Desktop Wall plugin settings, I can normally find a "Non Sliding Windows" option (Or at least, I've been able to in recent installs of Ubuntu). However, in the default installation of Compiz that comes with OpenSUSE 11.2, I don't have that option. I double checked to make sure I wasn't losing my mind, and on my Ubuntu 10.4 laptop it IS present (In CCSM under the Desktop Wall Plugin's "Viewport Switching" tab). I even went so far as to check to see if it's in the gconf database, and it's not on Suse, but is on Ubuntu. Installing the compiz extras package did not help. I even tried putting the key into the gconf database on Suse, but of course it didn't work.
The only thing I noticed is that Suse appears to be using an older version of Compiz (Suse: compiz 0.7.8; Ubuntu: compiz 0.8.4). Being a fairly experienced linux user (however being new to Suse itself), I'd like to check if there is a simpler solution than compiling from scratch. Anyone ever run across this/solved this already? The final goal is to make my desktop wallpaper and gnome panels static when viewport sliding.
I've had two students report a problem whereby Ubuntu does not show up as a menu option in Grub. Both systems used Wubi installations of Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop for x86 on Windows XP. In both cases, Ubuntu completed the installation process. Upon reboot, we have the options to choose between Windows XP and Ubuntu. However, once we enter into Grub, only the Windows XP option shows.
I have set up a server running ubuntu desktop, and I'm able to logon through remote desktop (win 7). The problem is that if I logon from computer 1 and open some programs, I don't see these programs when I logon from computer 2.I logon with the same user, so I find this strange. Is there some setting I have missed to be able to see the same from any computer (logon through remote desktop).
I just discovered that you can automount an ext4 filesystem with acl enabled by running "tune2fs -o acl". (I knew about tune2fs but did not dare to use it until now). However, the acl mount option does not show up in /etc/mtab and /proc/mounts. Can I ignore this, or is there a way of telling the system about the actual mount options?
Edit: I can do "tune2fs -l <device> | grep acl | awk '{print $4}'" and if that isn't empty I can update /etc/mtab with "mount -f -o remount, acl <device>", but like the udev rule I previously messed with this seems lumberingly unelegant to me.
Im trying to install GNOME-3 on top of kde and have GNOME DE option show up in kdm. I have SUSE DVD and have set local(OD) repository priority to 80 in order to get most packages from DVD. Inspite of that YaST pulls packages from online repositories, it may be the latest version. I have 8 MbPS dsl but the YaST download speeds are around 500B. How do I change mirrors of repositories. In my opinion this has nothing to do with ipv6, I use ipv6 for openBSD and it get good browsing speeds. Im trying to set kdm4 login manager but it doesnt start after enabling for YaST-/etc/sysconfig.
Does anybody else have this problem with restretto image viewer that it freezes after enabling the "show thumbnail bar" option? And after that point, it becomes unusable, can't be closed, only by killing, and can't start anymore, it shows only an empty gtk window and freezes again. Even if it is loaded without to show any picture.
let me start with this I am running the 10.4 beta2 via wubi on an Acer 6930. the Main os is Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I installed 10.4 32 bit Wubi. my hardware it intel core 2 duo 2Ghz 4GB ddr Mobile Intel GM45 Express. I think that is the applicable hard ware infoNow for my problem: when I am using Compiz dsktop cube or desktop wall In't set the horizontal size to 4(for a perfect cube like I want) it works with any other value, from 1 to 128 just not 4 has any one else had this issue or know of a fix?
How to get my desktop back to normal. I wanted to get my desktop cube back and stuff and I ended up disabling some things that I'm guessing were needed by the sidebar and stuff. Now when I start it up all I get is the wallpaper and nothing else. Not sure what to do from there.
In Ubuntu Tweak, under Desktop > Compiz Fusion you can assign a corner of your desktop to certain tasks. One of these is "show windows" which I've assigned to the lower left hand corner - so when I move the mouse there all my active windows come up like Mac "spaces"
However, I want it to show me the windows that I have minimized as well. I tried to look in ccsm for the "Show Windows" plugin configuration, but I can't for the life of me find where to configure settings for this. Or even to turn it on in ccsm instead of Ubuntu Tweak.
I'm trying to get desktop cube in compiz to work. I can select it and create a key combination for it, but I can't get it to work. I tried creating new workspaces and making less but the cube never shows up.
So I was messing around on my laptop this morning and I noticed that my desktop effects were turned off. So i decided to turn them on but as soon as i pressed the "normal" option a pop up opens up and says "searching for drivers" then the screen flickers and finally it tells me "desktop effects cannot be enabled". Also my compizconfig wasn't functioning. for exmaple: I turn on wobble windows and nothing happens. No wobble windows.
its possible using compiz to minimize all applications to the desktop. Im looking for something similar to the scale effect where I could just throw my mouse to the bottom left corner but instead of all open applications I could see the desktop.
I hope this is the correct section. I have recently updated to 10.04 and now Compiz/desktop effects wont work. When I try to turn visual effects on I get a message saying they could not be enabled. I'm a bit new to all this so not sure if I'm doing something wrong.I've looked at many threads regarding this problem and nothing they say has worked. iv tried using Hardware Drivers (in systems administration) but this says "no proprietary drivers are in use on this system".
Also I don't know whether this effects anything but when I open NVIDIA X Server Settings (in systems administration) i get a message saying "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server."Does anyone know how I can get Compiz/desktop effects working?.
I was just experimenting with compiz effects on Natty 11.04, and when I clicked desktop cube (which I'm assuming you're not supposed to do, haha), my compiz broke. The pop up windows are way at the top of the screen, almost out of view, and the windows lack the close, minimize, and maximize buttons. I tried reinstalling all the compiz plugins, and when I rebooted I had the same problem! I am using metacity right now, but I would be very sad if i was stuck with it.
As implied in the title, in compizconfig I went to Preferences, and under Profile, while unity was selected, hit the "Reset to defaults" button. The desktop went all fuzzy so I restarted, and when boot finished, I was left with my desktop background and nothing else - None of the tool bars, menu, sidebar... All gone.Recovery loads fine but with the 10.XX version look. What happened and how do I undo it?
I have natty 11.4 and love it but last night I played with some of the Compiz window settings and its messed things up. Now when I log into that account the icon launcher bar at the side is missing and the resolution seems to be missed up or at least the bookmars/system etc options at top left are missing. So I can't access terminal, systerm options, monitors or my files or web browser. Is there a way to get into applications without having the side bar or any desktop icons? Also how can I disable/cahnge compiz or recover my desktop so to speak. It all works apart from that, can open anything on my desktop
