I just wanted to share something with you all. If this belongs somewhere else let me know.I got the idea from this thread.I wanted the show mouse effect to not rotate around my mouse (just a preference)and have the emitters directly under my cursor. So by editing two files it gave me the desired effect to an extent.
1. Just in case back up your compiz settings.
2. Open a terminal and type - sudo nautilus . It'll ask for your admin password.
3. The file manager should now be open, go to /usr/share/compiz/showmouse.xml copy the file and rename the copy to showmouse.xml.bak.
4. Open showmouse.xml with the text editor.
5. Scroll down to the bottom and look for the "radius" section. Go to the <min>10</min> entry and change it to 2. Save.
6. Go to /usr/lib/compiz/libshowmouse.so copy the file and rename the copy to libshowmouse.so.bak.
7. Open the file with Ghex and search for the string radius on the right side of the search box.
8. It'll look like a jumble of words, but look after the word radius and find <min>10</min> change to 2. Save.
9.Compiz should now disable itself.
10. Reboot and re-enable Compiz and try out the show mouse plugin, it should now allow you to use a smaller radius.
The first issue is that none of the screensavers that come with ubuntu that have GL in the name work on my system. They just show a black screen.Of the 13 that came when i first installed the only ones that work are cosmos, fibrelamp, floating feet, floating ubuntu and fuzzyflakes. All the others show nothing at all. Fair enough I thought,I can live with that so downloaded a few games and things. All worked til I tried my first 3d game(oolite). On starting this I am just faced with a black screen and nothing happens. I think that the 2 issues may be related and that its likely to be a open GL issue. I have installed latest AMD drivers and my card(4350) seems to work fine. Edit: Just tried to use visualisations while using Rhythmbox and these dont work either. They show up on screen but cause my system to freeze,so I am sure I have a graphics problem
When I try to change my mouse cursor theme through gnome-appearance-properties, my cursor only changes to the selected themes in only certain situations, but is the default most of the time. Due to some vision problems, it is hard for me to see the default cursor, and would prefer a size 24 DMZ-Black theme for the pointer.
I've been searching for some solutions, and it looks like Compiz has taken over some duties regarding the mouse cursor and how it looks. That's fine, I love Compiz, I use the screen magnifier and zoom all the time - so turning Compiz off is not an option.
Most solutions I've found call for changing the mouse theme in compiz. However, most of those posts are at least 2 years old, and my current version of ccsm doesn't have an option to change the mouse theme. I found 'cursor_size' and 'cursor_theme' in gconf-editor (apps > compiz > general > allscreens > options), but making those keys match those found in (desktop > gnome > peripherals > mouse) has brought me no success.
I'm using Lucid Lynx with all updated packages, upgraded from Karmic.
I saw my computer's desktop did not show the wallpaper correctly and I could actually see INTO my other virtual desktops....its as is compiz decided it did not want to work correctly: You can see into my other virtual desktops, as you can see I have an application open in the desktop to the left of the current one.
I can still maximize windows and it takes up the whole screen as it should, but animations and anything on the left side (dead space side) seem to get stuck...I have to rotate my cube and rotate back before everything works correctly. I know I did get a few new updates around the time this started happening, so hopefully someone out there has experienced something similar.
I am using a netbook low on computer power. I don't have compiz installed and I don't want it.But I want to be able to switch between applications using the mouse.Expose style would be great but performance is paramount so if they were just icons or something that would be fine. is it possible to use the mouse to trigger alt-tab?(my netbook is often hooked up to my TV so keyboard is not always in reach)In Kubuntu I just had to move the pointer to the top left corner of the screen and an expose style effect would happen. But I believe that was compiz and I have moved to Ubuntu and found it much snappier.
I have a 4-way logitech side scrolling mouse and had it set up that (button7) which was left would rotate my desktop cube left, and the same with (button6) which was right. Now with my new motherboard I need to plug in USB, and left and right side scroll is captured as the same as left and right on the directional pad. How can I re-assign my mouse as button 6 & 7?
Does anyone know why scroll left and right are set as keyboard left and right? Does anyone know how to fix it, or reassign the buttons?
I have an Intel setup with 64bit Ubuntu. I have an NVIDIA graphics card. When I used compiz, I found that my mouse would follow newly created windows. (e.g, I would bring up terminal and if I hit F1, the mouse would move to the upper right of the screen by itself. I have since turned off compiz which resolves the issue. where I can turn it off/on.
I'm now using natty, and Compiz, but if Compiz is enables, I can't move any window. If I try to drag a window with the title bar and my mouse, it has no effect. The cursor won't grab the window.
trying to config compiz shift switcher for use with mouse.i want it to initiate for all workspaces by clicking the mouse wheel i know the following:
button 1 is left click button 2 is right click button 4 is scroll up button 5 is scroll down
so i assumed that either button 3 or 6 might be scroll wheel click apparently not i know that the scroll click works on my mouse in ubuntu anyone know the correct button number, or if it is 3 or 6, what i am doing wrong ?
I've been looking for an option to turn off for this, but haven't found any, and Google hasn't been helpful. When I switch windows with alt-tab, or a window requests focus, compiz warps my mouse cursor to that window. How do I make it stop?
Just installed Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit on my computer dual booting with 9.10 32bit. Was hoping to move to 64 bit to get full use out of my RAM and CPU. The issue is that when I tried to run Compiz-Fusion that I got from the Ubuntu software repos that came with 9.10 nothing would change. I tried to make a 4 desktop layout with a cube like I have on the 32 bit OS and nothing happens. So I right click on the Compiz icon and select the "reload windows manager" tap in the drop down menu and every time it turns to a blank screen of white with a mouse on it. I can move the mouse and I can even use some of the new settings I changed but I cant see anything else besides a mouse and the white screen. I feel as thou I am using a version of Compiz that is not compatible with 9.10 64 bit.
Im trying 2 get different cursor effects, and when i click show mouse in compiz config i can edit the settings, but it wont let me click the enable button, ill show some pics. wont let me enable the thing in the photo.
Openoffice.org apparently ignores the window manager altogether for questions of focus. This combined with opening lots of little dialogs and menus is making it almost unusable. (Over at openoffice.org, this has been answered with (essentially) "I use click to focus, so raising on focus is normal, so I'm putting at the lowest possible priority because it has nothing to do with usability.") The problem is that I use focus following the mouse, with click to raise. This is very convenient for copying between two windows and saves me a lot of time and energy, as I have to do this quite often. Current behavior, however, causes Openoffice.org to raise any window you happen to pass over, thus hiding the floating toolbar or dialog box that you were trying to click on. Worse, as the window you brushed by has gained focus, in most cases, the toolbar or dialog disappears entirely. The only solution is to move everything around so as to have a path to get to your toolbar/dialog without touching another window, or to minimize all but one openoffice document. Is there anyway to make Openoffice.org usable with this setting?
I can record my desktop for instructional aids but saying "And now click here" is not too cool and the user could miss the what-where. How do I have each mouse click play an audio sound or have a right click cause circular waves and a left click square waves around the mouse? Something graphic and/or audio. (My android tablet has the option of a click sound when a touch is recognized.)
I hope for something more obvious for the viewer. I don't use Compiz but would be willing to try it if that is the answer. Turning on Visual Effects (x) Extra does not do it. I didn't see anything in Assistive Technologies.
After the update on 7/03/10 edge+mouse button combo's don't work anymore, keyboard short cuts for the same function are still working. Example "Scale", keyboard short-cut ctrl-s working, edge+mouse button Right Edge - Right Mouse Button no action. Worked before...
Compiz seems to have had a bug where, upon using Compiz as the window manager, the mouse cursor would refuse to properly change after selecting a new theme. The workaround (altering the index.theme in/usr/share/icons/default) used to be a way around the issue... that is, until the latest Nautilus updates. Now even that won't let the cursor change, and I'm stuck with the issue of a Bluecurve cursor inside applications, but the default dmz-aa cursor on the desktop. Has anyone else found a way around this bug?
I recently installed Linux Mint 8, which is an amazing distribution.I can get everything to work perfect, but I cannot figure out how to make the mouse wheel change desktops in compiz. Also, make sure that it only changes desktops when the mouse is over an empty desktop because I got it working once but the mouse wheel would change desktops all the time, even when I was trying to scroll through a webpage or document.
i have newly installed ubuntu 9.1 but it is not able to play any movies also don't show mouse pointer, i have installed all players and neccesory files for multimedia. when i play the file media player opens and starts playing but i am able to see only a screen full of colored pixels my system: AMD Athlon , Asus Mother board dual core 3600+,VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M890CE I/O APIC Interrupt Controller [1106:5336], resolution 1280 X 1024, lg 17" LCD
I am running Fedora F14 on an Intel I3 cpu w/4Gb memory and plenty of disk. I have two displays connected to the Gigabyte Motherboard, one of the HDMI connector, and one on a DVI connector. I run Gnome. When Compiz is enabled things work fine for a while, meaning hours or days. Then the displays will "freeze" to the point where the clock stops updating. The system itself is still running programs, services, and the mouse and keyboard work. The mouse cursor will move around, but nothing can be clicked upon. If a terminal was the open window, typing on the keyboard does not do anything, nor does ctrl-backspace or whatever it is to terminate X windows. The keyboard does allow me to press ctrl-alt-F2 to switch to one of the base consoles. Once there I can type to my hearts content. I can kill off my logged in Gnome session through the console, and I can shutdown the system in a controlled manner.
It is as if all of the windows stop updating. For example, I play music through Amarok. An hour after I stop using the system but letting the music play the screens will do their lockup. The clock will stop, and Amarok will stop updating which song it is playing. It continues to play each song in the playlist, but the Amarok window shows what was playing at the time that the clock stopped. I've also had this happen to me while using Yumex, where it would stop updating the screen while installing programs, but the programs do get installed. With Compiz off I don't have this problem.
The version of Compiz I am using is currently 0.8.6-3. It is running on Gnome 2.32.0-2, with a Linux kernel of 2.6.35.9-64. It has happened with earlier versions of these programs. I am using the graphics processing the Intel i3 chip to the motherboard connectors. The freeze generally happens at some random time while I am not actively using the system. It has happened to me while doing simple things like programming through an IDE. The really strange thing to me is that the cursor will move around on the screen after everything else stops updating.
In Ubuntu Tweak, under Desktop > Compiz Fusion you can assign a corner of your desktop to certain tasks. One of these is "show windows" which I've assigned to the lower left hand corner - so when I move the mouse there all my active windows come up like Mac "spaces"
However, I want it to show me the windows that I have minimized as well. I tried to look in ccsm for the "Show Windows" plugin configuration, but I can't for the life of me find where to configure settings for this. Or even to turn it on in ccsm instead of Ubuntu Tweak.
In Ubuntu 10.04, there is no "Show Desktop" option in Compiz. This option was in 9.10, and I want it back! How can I enable it again? I assume there is a way, because Compiz developers sometimes get a bit cooky and make certain options disappear or be impossible to disable (genie affect patent, animations cannot be disabled in 9.10). How can I reenable the Show Desktop option?
I was asked to setup 802.1x Port Based Authentication for users connecting to a Managed Cisco Switch. From what I was told, it should work like this: - User plugs workstation into switch. - Workstation asks user for radius credentials. - Workstation is then able to authenticate to the Radius server. - After workstation is authenticated, the switchport then becomes unrestricted and allows the workstation to communicate on the network.
this is all I need simple VPN with authentication to external Radius server. Here is what I have done to try and get this goal accomplished. 1st try using PPTPD and Radius plugin No matter what I have tried (long explanation here [URL].. I can't get PPTPD to talk to my Radius server, even though I can authenticate using the same server and radius server using pam radius. PPTPD just won't, and so far the POTOP mail list has been quiet since my post to them and no replies/ideas in my other post, see forum link above.
2nd try using OpenVPN and their pam auth plugin. I give up on this one! I have the server working great BUT! As soon as I enable the plugin /usr/lib/openvpn/openvpn-auth-pam.so in the config I get this when trying to start the VPN server. kernel: [3725586.167177] openvpn[28364]: segfault at 0 ip 00007fd6e5e38fb4 sp 00007fff434f18f0 error 4 in openvpn-auth-pam.so[7fd6e5e38000+3000] Google turns up nothing on Segfaults on the openvpn-auth-pam.so Ug at my wits end, anybody have any other suggestions? I'm at a total loss ATM.
I need to set up a Radius server for use in an ISP which will be wireless internet only.
I had thought to use Centos maybe and install and somehow configure Freeradius.
I have little experience with Linux, but am a Windows Admin, and use Linux a little.
My questions would be: Is there a best distro that i should use?? I have used Ubuntu the most, but not sure if it is best to use for this project.
Freeradius website has documentation but it doesnt tell me much about how to get it all up and running, What we want is Authentication and Accounting and from what i can see Freeradius is a good option? Is there anything better that i can use? We will be eventually having approximately 5000 clients.
I have installed FreeRadius to a Debian Linux server.
I have configured an account called Support to run the Radius as I didnt want Root to be the user to run this.
I want Radius to start up automatically after the system is rebooted but I dont know how to do this. I am new to Linux so please bare with me. If the system is rebooted, is it possible for the Support account to be logged in automatically? Is there a script I can create to automatically login the Support account? This may not be secure but it has been requested. Also the main question is after a reboot can the Radius be configured to automatically start without the need for someone to login? So if the system is rebooted and then goes back to login prompt, can the Radius then be running?
I have had a good search about scripts but with my limited knowledge it isnt too easy.
So far Ive read it says to create a script in /etc/init.d which Ive done and named start-my-radius.sh I think Ive made It execuatable by chmod 777, if thats right?
The script looks like this:
But I dont know if thats even right? The radiusd is located in the /usr/local/sbin/ and the radacct and radius.log is located in / usr/local/var/log/radius
Some stuff I have read says it needs to link into /etc/rc.d but there isnt a rc.d directory, I have other rc directories which are rc1.d rc6.d.
After reading it also said something about using rc.radiusd which will automatically start Radius after a reboot, but again I cannot understand exactly what I need to do.
Let me know if I am on the right track? Will the start-my-radius.sh script work after the system is rebooted without someone actually login and how do I get it to work?
Now i am setting up wifi hot spot with this guide. During this set up i got this error, after i type command #sudo radtest "John Doe" hello 127.0.0.1 0 radiussecret "radclient: no response from server for ID 47 socket 3"
