General :: Getting The Option To Show The Full User Path
Jan 21, 2010
- When using SU - , I need the option to show the full user path (root user, home dir, etc..), not just root@name. Is there one?
-If not in sudoers file, how can a user get in to edit a file for example. Is that possible?
-Does service ssh restart disconnect users?

I want a simple list of files in a directory that is not my current directory. I run ls /other/directory/*.txt and get:
/other/directory/file1.txt
/other/directory/file2.txt
I want:
file1.txt
file2.txt
How can I get the second list?

I have the following files:
~/Dir1/file1.txt
~/Dir2/file2.txt
Then I use the following command:
cd ~ zip out.zip /Dir1/file1.txt /Dir2/file2.txt
In the out.zip i can see two directories (dir1 and dir2) but want only these two files (file1.txt and file2.txt) were in the root of out.zip! I thought the "-D" option is what I need, but it doesn't work

Is there a way to get the full path of a file in C? I have a method that accepts a file name as an argument and is supposed to read the content of the file. The file name might include "../" so this might lead to accessing files outside of the current directory. I tried to use fstat but I could not figure out how to get the full path.

Bu now in 11.4 when i do that i get whole path, like this for example:

I am new to writing shell scripts. So, please bare with me. I am currently trying to write a shell script which will read the directory path as input from user and will traverse the Dir tree to find all available audio and video files. I have tried to write as much as I could but I don't know where I am making mistake as I get some files to be audio file which are actully tar balls. On the second note there are some files which video but script shows them to be audio. And, some video files are completely skipped. I am giving the shell script below so that you can see. I am using two external files as source which I am attaching.
Code:
#!/bin/bash
#Let's load the extensions that we want to search for
vdExt=$(cat vdExtList)
adExt=$(cat adExtList)

I was doing some rather lengthy procedures using a terminal. Then I wrote script using Kate, and input it into that terminal, and then realized that I was logged in as a normal user in that terminal as opposed to a superuser, which is how I was logged in at the other terminal. I've never noticed this before because I've never done anything that takes this long.
Is there any way to link all terminal sessions in such a way that they all show me logged in as the same user? I don't even know if this is even important, but I don't want to risk losing any things that I had done.

I would like to make a bootable Ubuntu system on a USB stick from a full install, so I can update the packages/kernel etc, and I would also like to have the ability to Install ubuntu from the USB stick onto other computers. What package allows you to run the installer that is found on the LiveCD?
Also, is it possible to have a Ubuntu installer that uses updated packages rather than the LiveCD so they are current when installed rather than the release packages to save on the download/updating time?

The Text Location bar is where you see the full path to the directory that you're viewing.But I can't set the default addressing to the Text Location Bar.What else should I do to get the text location bar (i.e. the full path) to be the default view in the address bar?

I have a problem on my installation of Ubuntu 10.10: it shows 0kb space remaining in nautilus. When I delete files (also out of Trash) it shows there is again space, but within minutes this free space is full again. When I look in Disk Usage Analyzer it says there is 140 GB available and it is impossible that the complete partition of 190 GB is full. But I cannot save or download anything anymore and the system is not very responsive. So it seems to act as if the disk is completely full.

I used unetbootin to create my bootable usb with 10.10 for netbook. I am trying to install ubuntu on my brand new fresh out of the box Asus Eee PC 1018P but the problem is when I hit esc during the boot to get to bios to select boot from usb, the usb doesn't show up as an option. I also tried hitting f2 and making it an option to boot from usb but that doesn't seem to work either.

I use this command:
Code:
find ./ -atime +360
to figure out the files that haven't been accessed since 360 days. The command above will return results like this:
Code:
/uploads/2010/02/some-file-name.ext
/uploads/2009/08/another-file-name.ext
... etc
I'm taking here about tins of directories, thousands of files. I'm looking to find a command that makes me able to move the results above to another path, and to create that path once it doesn't exist like below:
Code:
mv /uploads/2010/02/some-file-name.ext /old-files/uploads/2010/02/some-file-name.ext
But I want the executed command to create this path
Code:
/old-files/uploads/2010/02/
If it doesn't exist.

How can I get Zypper to show the full description of packages rather than a truncated summary? Currently zypper only shows me a truncated summary description.
