Does anybody else have this problem with restretto image viewer that it freezes after enabling the "show thumbnail bar" option? And after that point, it becomes unusable, can't be closed, only by killing, and can't start anymore, it shows only an empty gtk window and freezes again. Even if it is loaded without to show any picture.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm trying to install GNOME-3 on top of kde and have GNOME DE option show up in kdm. I have SUSE DVD and have set local(OD) repository priority to 80 in order to get most packages from DVD. Inspite of that YaST pulls packages from online repositories, it may be the latest version. I have 8 MbPS dsl but the YaST download speeds are around 500B. How do I change mirrors of repositories. In my opinion this has nothing to do with ipv6, I use ipv6 for openBSD and it get good browsing speeds. Im trying to set kdm4 login manager but it doesnt start after enabling for YaST-/etc/sysconfig.

It created a "bkl-thumbnail" home dir and has been caching image thumbnails.
Any way to keep it from doing that? Or find out why it's doing it?
I installed Fedora 12 on my Compaq Presario SR1230NX. Anyway, everytime I try to enable desktop effects, my computer would freeze. I own a Compaq Presario and here's the info I got on the intergrated video card...thingy. XD

When I move something to Trash it doesn't show the option of "Empty Trash". I can use "move to Trash" and it just moving there like some ordinary folder, but shift+del give me an option for deleting the files. Using OpenSUSE 11.3 32bit.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter I manually installed multimedia codecs, like w32codecall, I got Linux to play movies and I also got thumbnail previews of them in Dolphin. However, I noticed that recently Dolphin doesn't display my thumbnails anymore. I don't quite recall whether the any video player could use my installed codecs, at least xine works. The only thing that could have caused that is actually the automatic system updates I received. I still have my multimedia codecs installed, but Dolphin doesn't show the movie previews anymore.

I am trying to install ubuntu on my brand new fresh out of the box Asus Eee PC 1018P but the problem is when I hit esc during the boot to get to bios to select boot from usb, the usb doesn't show up as an option. I also tried hitting f2 and making it an option to boot from usb but that doesn't seem to work either.

Both systems used Wubi installations of Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop for x86 on Windows XP. In both cases, Ubuntu completed the installation process. Upon reboot, we have the options to choose between Windows XP and Ubuntu. However, once we enter into Grub, only the Windows XP option shows.

I'm having difficulty upgrading from 6.06lts to 10.10.
I have downloaded and burnt a cd, however it freezes on any option from the boot menu. I've tried the various options to no avail.
So i then tried a frugal install using unetbootin however when I try bootin through that using the 10.10 iso it comes up with this

Recently upgraded Karmic to Lucid (32 bit system).System freezes/locks-up intermittently (seems to be associated with Firefox). Only option is to power off.Have seen other (very recent) posts, many unanswered and none of use.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just discovered that you can automount an ext4 filesystem with acl enabled by running "tune2fs -o acl". (I knew about tune2fs but did not dare to use it until now). However, the acl mount option does not show up in /etc/mtab and /proc/mounts. Can I ignore this, or is there a way of telling the system about the actual mount options?
Edit: I can do "tune2fs -l <device> | grep acl | awk '{print $4}'" and if that isn't empty I can update /etc/mtab with "mount -f -o remount,acl <device>", but like the udev rule I previously messed with this seems lumberingly unelegant to me.
when I go to download 11.3 I am presented with the installation medium for a DVD installation with a button that says download DVD. Should there be an option to download an ISO option for a CD installation on this page along with the DVD version? Some of our older machines can only read CD's with a max size of 500+ megs.

It said MP3 Encoder not present. it needs gstreamer plugin lame.
I saw somewhere that in package gstreamer-0_10-plugins-ugly is included lame now.
But it mp3 still is not enabled in audio converter.

I was having some trouble with dual display on my laptop, so I loaded the system using the nv graphics driver. I got some message from gnome3 saying that my display configuration wasn't supported, and then it fell back to something that looks similar to gnome2. I switched back to the nouveau driver, but gnome3 didn't come back. Does anybody know how to switch it back?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am a new user, and installed opensuse 11.3 on my desktop pc about a week ago, now the problem with my computer is this that the graphical performance is very slow, I have Intel Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz processor, with 512 mb ram plus a shared graphic card memory of 32 mb on an IBM thinkcentre. The default graphic driver loaded (as seen through YASt hardware information) is i915 while I read somewhere that default driver for this accelerator is intel. I get about 60 FPS on Glx gears while after applying vesa it goes to about 200 FPS. With default driver the CPU usage is head aching. I created a manual xorg.conf file via Xorg -configure command and set the driver intel and then intellegacy with gaining no boost in performance. The glxinfo says 3D Rendering being enabled while KWIN's desktop effects are too slow and laggy. The CPU keeps working at about 70-100% while movies on ..... and vlc/kaffeine are being played unsmoothly. On the same system, the Kubuntu Live 8.04 gives 500 FPS in glxgears.

Im trying to install ubuntu with windows xp, but I only have 1 disk. People at irc told me i Could make a new partition in this same disk without having to format the whole drive.. and this option should appear at the setup, but i dont have that option, it only show the option to format the drive or "do something else", And here i cant see anything that let me use the free space i have in the windows partition to make a new one...
my ntfs partition has at least 35gb contiguous free space of 200gb free so i thought i could use this to make a new partition, but idk how,
In Ubuntu 10.04, there is no "Show Desktop" option in Compiz. This option was in 9.10, and I want it back! How can I enable it again? I assume there is a way, because Compiz developers sometimes get a bit cooky and make certain options disappear or be impossible to disable (genie affect patent, animations cannot be disabled in 9.10). How can I reenable the Show Desktop option?

I think i need to disable GPU acceleration to get it running... so i need to disable it from a config file in /home/.config/chromium .
I recently installed openSuse 11.2 KDE in a Dell 1535 laptop.
I tried to enable the Cube desktop feature through desktop settings and when I pressed the apply button the system crashed. The screen freezed and the laptop wasn't responding to anything.
So I rebooted the laptop and now every time gets stack in the green screen and trying to load but it never does. I suspect that it has to do with my ATI card because a couple of 3d games would crash the system too. I tried some solutions that I found here like disabling the desktop effects by tweaking kwinrc file but it didn't worked.
Does anyone know how to disable that Cube feature from failsafe mode?

View 5 Replies View RelatedTo all those who hit this after installing 11.3: Enable the tapping function of your touch pad by adding Option "TapButton1" "1" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-synaptics.conf. then restart X (relogin). It will work with all WMs for which SuSE didn't bother to add a GUI config function/utility (xfce, WMaker, twm/fvwm, etc).
To SuSE: WHY? Why is this disabled by default? Why has a system/HW function to be enabled at WM level?? Why only KDE/Gnome?
