View 7 RepliesI tried xdg-desktop-icon command. It does install a shortcut. The shortcut works when double clicked. But the shortcut is shown as a standard icon, not the icon defined in the .desktop file. Do I miss something?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use default ambiance theme.
I love this theme, but show desktop icon is ugly.
It looks like some theme has show desktop icon in theme folder, but others are not.
How can I change icon? I think it's ubuntu's default show desktop icon.
This is a super tiny detail that most people probably don't even notice, but why is the show desktop button icon cut off? It looks really weird.
I don't think it was like that in 9.10. Is there any way to fix it?
I hate the purple "Show Desktop Icon" in Lucid and I finally figured out how to change it:
1) sudo apt-get install wmctrl
2) Create the following script and proceed as directed within the script's comments:
#!/bin/sh
# GLD's Show Desktop Button script. Here's how to do it.
# sudo apt-get install wmctrl
# Right click on the panel and select "Add To Panel".
# Choose "Custom Application Launcher".
# Use the file name of this script for the Command.
# Use whatever icon that you want. The generic Ubuntu Show_Desktop_Button icon is located here:
# /usr/share/gnome/help/user-guide/C/figures/show_desktop_button.png
if [ -f /tmp/toggle_show_desktop_$USER ]thenwmctrl -k off
rm /tmp/toggle_show_desktop_$USER elsewmctrl -k on
touch /tmp/toggle_show_desktop_$USERfi

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just created an 11.3 64 bit image using susestudio. All seems well but would like to customize the desktop via my script that I have added. My question is how do I remove the home directory and the trash icon from the desktop? Or better said what is the path to removing the symbolic link, I cannot find the symbolic links in the desktop directory. It is empty, I do not see any symbolic links under /home/test/Desktop?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have set up a server running ubuntu desktop, and I'm able to logon through remote desktop (win 7). The problem is that if I logon from computer 1 and open some programs, I don't see these programs when I logon from computer 2.I logon with the same user, so I find this strange. Is there some setting I have missed to be able to see the same from any computer (logon through remote desktop).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've updated to opensSUSE 11.2, but only now I've discovered that by clicking on the openSUSE-icon (the one with the green chameleon placed on desktop's corner) I receive an error:
Which is the reason?
It might be obvious, but I can't figure it out. I would have thought you can just right-click and an option would be there to add to desktop, but I only see add to favorites. What am I missing?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed a Suse Studio build and trying to customize it. When I login as an ordinary user, there are 2 icons on Gnome desktop (or nautilus); Home and Trash. These appear to be undeleteable and I want an undeleteable Firefox icon on my desktop as well. When I create a Firefox shortcut; it can be deleted no matter what I do; i.e. giving read-only permissions or chown to root. So, I think these desktop icons are different than ordinary app
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 3 year old Seagate Freeagent 80Gb harddisk and after installing Opensuse 11.4 yesterday would like to copy my backup documents into the laptop. So I plugged in both power usb cables to the laptop and it seems to be detected by the OS, but being a newbie to linux I do not know how to read the contents of my drive which is formatted in NTFS. Is it because of the NTFS that's why the harddisk does not show up?
I did a quick google and here is what I get while trying to dig for more info:

Does anyone know how to add a fully working (icon changes) Trashcan to the Desktop Folder View?I don't want the plasmoid/widget on the Desktop or on the Task Manager Panel.I can right click -> Create New -> Link to Location(URL), but the icon doesn't change.If the Desktop Folder View is a plasmoid, I guess I'm asking can a plasmoid (trash can) run inside another plasmoid (desktop view) %-)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm finally switching (slowly) from KDE3 to 4 (in 11.3). There are 2
things I so far haven't figured out:
1. How do I turn off the tooltips which appear when the mouse moves over
a desktop icon?
2. How can I assign a keyboard shortcut to minimize a window?
Just installed openSUSE 11.3 (KDE) and not expert about it yet, I am experiencing two problems.
Skype: just installed 2.1.0.81-suse.i586rpm, starting it I get just the icon jumping on the desktop a bit and nothing else.
If I try with the command line, this is the result:
After that, I dont have preview about stored file images and even online, Google Images does not showing preview, just colored strips; if I go with the mouse on it, the image comes out.
how can I create an icon on the KDE4-desktop to start a program?
The program to start was not installed with YAST.
Well, as described in the title, I can't see the desktop icons, and the "show desktop" option under "gconf-editor >apps>nautilus>preferences" says it's not writable...
I tried deleting the nautilus configuration folder, and the gnome configuration folder...
I'm using Opensuse 11.3 with KDE 4.4.4. When using the task switcher, only programs open on the current desktop are visible. I think it would be handy to have the Launch Bar work in the same fashion.
Is it possible to have the Launch Bar only show programs open on the current desktop?
I'm looking for a way to may the open windows show just an icon on the taskbar instead of the icon/text/rectangle that's default. Something similar to Windows 7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to add .desktop file for my application but I'm stuck with very strange problem.I created 48x48 icon for my program called etmmanager.png.I created .desktop file according to specifications:
Code:
[Desktop Entry]
X-SuSE-translate=true
Categories=Application;Utility;X-SuSE-TimeUtility;
Comment=ETM Manager for time logging
Exec=etmmanager
code....
My problem is that icon is not working in menu! I can find my program in Utilities->Time->ETM Manager and this is what I wanted, but there is no icon for the program.
It starts working if I specify absolute path in etmmanager.desktop file like
Code:
Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/etmmanager.png
About my system - Opensuse 11.1 KDE 4.2
I installed Gnome desktop environment recently then ;I' ve lost KDE desktop effects settings. I just can see Compiz Configirator. I cant configure effects independently. There is same settings in gnome and kde. And also I cant change windows appearence.

View 1 Replies View RelatedUp until KDE4 I could select a different image for each of the 4 virtual desktops. Now I tried Suse11.1 KDE and it seems like there is no such option. I can change the background image allright, but all 4 desktops have the SAME image.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using Gnome on openSUSE 11.2. I can't get rid of the ctrl-alt-d keyboard shortcut in Gnome. I have set it to "disabled" in control center -> keyboard shortcuts, but no luck.
When I run the gnome-keybindings-properties program from the terminal it dumps these two messages onto stderr:
(gnome-keybinding-properties:11958): keybinding-properties-WARNING **: No description for key '/apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/opacity_decrease_key'
(gnome-keybinding-properties:11958): keybinding-properties-WARNING **: No description for key '/apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/opacity_increase_key'
and the following two messages like 20 or so times:
(gnome-keybinding-properties:11958): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_store_append: assertion `VALID_ITER (parent, tree_store)' failed
(gnome-keybinding-properties:11958): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_store_set_valist: assertion `VALID_ITER (iter, tree_store)' failed
I realize this isn't the most critical problem, but I am experimenting with Guile (scheme as a C extension language) which I am editing in Emacs, and even after reassigning "down-list" I keep hitting C-M-d because it's right by C-M-f which I also use constantly, and this minimizes all my windows! And there is nothing on my desktop, I never use the feature intentionally. Maybe I should get a wallpaper that says "HaHa Dummy!" or something of the sort to at least get a chuckle out of it when it happens.
Turned on my computer this morning only to have my desktop come up as if I was looking in a mirror. The icons and taskbar etc are in the correct places, only everything is a mirror image. This is a per user problem as my wife's account is fine. I have tried deleting all of the plasma files in the ./config directory with no luck. KDE 4.5 on openSUSE 11.3NVidia graphics if that matters
