View 9 RepliesI used unetbootin to create my bootable usb with 10.10 for netbook. I am trying to install ubuntu on my brand new fresh out of the box Asus Eee PC 1018P but the problem is when I hit esc during the boot to get to bios to select boot from usb, the usb doesn't show up as an option. I also tried hitting f2 and making it an option to boot from usb but that doesn't seem to work either.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had two students report a problem whereby Ubuntu does not show up as a menu option in Grub. Both systems used Wubi installations of Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop for x86 on Windows XP. In both cases, Ubuntu completed the installation process. Upon reboot, we have the options to choose between Windows XP and Ubuntu. However, once we enter into Grub, only the Windows XP option shows.

People at irc told me i Could make a new partition in this same disk without having to format the whole drive.. and this option should appear at the setup, but i dont have that option, it only show the option to format the drive or "do something else", And here i cant see anything that let me use the free space i have in the windows partition to make a new one...

Does anyone know the command line option to show rhythmbox?
Basically I just want to make a shortcut to show the rhythmbox screen as opposed to clicking the icon and selecting show rhythmbox
rhythmbox-client --(option) --no-start
I just discovered that you can automount an ext4 filesystem with acl enabled by running "tune2fs -o acl". (I knew about tune2fs but did not dare to use it until now). However, the acl mount option does not show up in /etc/mtab and /proc/mounts. Can I ignore this, or is there a way of telling the system about the actual mount options?
Edit: I can do "tune2fs -l <device> | grep acl | awk '{print $4}'" and if that isn't empty I can update /etc/mtab with "mount -f -o remount, acl <device>", but like the udev rule I previously messed with this seems lumberingly unelegant to me.
Im trying to install GNOME-3 on top of kde and have GNOME DE option show up in kdm. I have SUSE DVD and have set local(OD) repository priority to 80 in order to get most packages from DVD. Inspite of that YaST pulls packages from online repositories, it may be the latest version. I have 8 MbPS dsl but the YaST download speeds are around 500B. How do I change mirrors of repositories. In my opinion this has nothing to do with ipv6, I use ipv6 for openBSD and it get good browsing speeds. Im trying to set kdm4 login manager but it doesnt start after enabling for YaST-/etc/sysconfig.
View 1 Replies View Related- When using SU - , I need the option to show the full user path (root user, home dir, etc..), not just root@name. Is there one?
-If not in sudoers file, how can a user get in to edit a file for example. Is that possible?
-Does service ssh restart disconnect users?
Does anybody else have this problem with restretto image viewer that it freezes after enabling the "show thumbnail bar" option? And after that point, it becomes unusable, can't be closed, only by killing, and can't start anymore, it shows only an empty gtk window and freezes again. Even if it is loaded without to show any picture.
View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen I go to download 11.3 I am presented with the installation medium for a DVD installation with a button that says download DVD. Should there be an option to download an ISO option for a CD installation on this page along with the DVD version? Some of our older machines can only read CD's with a max size of 500+ megs.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn Ubuntu 10.04, there is no "Show Desktop" option in Compiz. This option was in 9.10, and I want it back! How can I enable it again? I assume there is a way, because Compiz developers sometimes get a bit cooky and make certain options disappear or be impossible to disable (genie affect patent, animations cannot be disabled in 9.10). How can I reenable the Show Desktop option?

I tried deleting the nautilus configuration folder, and the gnome configuration folder...
I have a MSI a6000 Laptop (that has given me a lot of problems installing Ubuntu.
I finally had to run Ubuntu from a CD in nomodeset
Then when I go to install Ubuntu the only options it gives (regarding my harddrive) are to format my whole hardrive or do the partitioning. I have seen screenshots though where there is a third option on the same page to install ubuntu alongside a prior OS and dual boot.
Does anyone know why the "install alongside a prior OS (dual boot)" option doesn't show up?
I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a Windows XP Media Centre Edition system. On the Step 4 of the installation which usually gives you the option to partition the disk but it only gives me the option to Erase the entire disk or specify partition manually, although this also doesn't allow anything other than totally erasing the disk. I'd ideally like to keep my Windows and I have installed Ubuntu before (but 9.10) on a different system.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am coming from the Fedora world where everything is on one DVD and you just install it. I tried to install Kubuntu 11.04 using LVM, and I selected manual partitioning setup during the install, but there is no option for setting up LVM. Am I using the wrong version, i.e. it only works with the server edition? I saw somewhere that it may magically become available in expert mode...Is that true? Somewhere else it recommends using the alternate CD?Also, maybe I am attacking this the wrong way. I want to set up a server with KDE, so what is the best method:1) Install plain ubuntu, then add KDE + any server programs.2) Install Kubuntu, then add any server programs.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI downloaded from [URL] files FC-6-i386-disc1.iso through FC-6-i386-disc5.iso from windows vista with get right. I checked the files with sha1sum.exe and the numbers are correct. I burned the cd's with roxio creator de. Then I go to the other computer and start the installation and at the beginning there is an option to test the cd's before installation proceeds. All cd's tests fail. So I would like to be sure: Have I been buying bad cd's? Note: I have tried 15 cd's, all failed.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI just updated a system I maintain remotely to kubuntu 10.4 which went pretty well on the whole.
However, having left it running a few days to monitor things the user wanted to power off the machine (an HP laptop)
There no longer seems to be a way to turn it OFF. Apart from the session options there is only suspend and hibernate.
What happened to OFF ?
We do use kickstart configuration file to customize the CentOS installation. In the partitioning screen, I do see a check box for encryption (encrypting the disk blocks).
I want to remove this checkbox in my kickstart configuration file. What is the option to use to get rid of this checkbox.
Anyway since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 when I right-click on something and there is another menu in that menu, it doesn't show up for the first time!
for example if I want to create a an "Empty File", I'll right-click on desktop and when I want to go to "Create Document" menu, it doesn't show up! so I must click somewhere else and try again so for the second time it works!!
I have windows 7 installed to one hd, and installed Ubuntu to another internal. The install went well, and when it was done, it said it had to restart. But upon restarting, i wasnt give the option to boot ubuntu. It just keeps loading windows. I went back to my bios and chose to boot from both hd's, but nothing is happening. With the hd with ubuntu on it, it wont load up.
